The Burberry Velvet Foundation is very promising on paper but falls short on delivery

March 4, 2013 Paris B 29 Comments

The Burberry Beauty Longwearing Velvet Foundation was released some time last year together with their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. Burberry, having started out with a relatively small selection of products, doesn’t do many limited edition items. The only one I know of so far is their Summer Glow palette from 2012. Every other “new release” has been made permanent to build up their colour selection.

I had sampled the original Sheer Luminous Foundation back when they first launched but I was far from impressed. I found it too oily and too “luminous” for my skin and that’s saying a lot you know. I generally have drier skin (thanks, aging skin!) so you would think something like that would work on me. But it didn’t, slipping and sliding everywhere and I recall that it oxidised too.

However, the Velvet Foundation is supposed to be longwearing, adhere better to skin and give a radiant matte look. Burberry says that this one is targeted at those with oily-combination skintypes who need something that won’t slide off at the first sign of oil. Ah, but does it live up to its claims? This combination-dry skinned gal will tell you 😉

New! Burberry Beauty Autumn/Winter Collection 2012 and Velvet Foundation

November 9, 2012 Paris B 47 Comments

I’ve been really busy at work this week (slaying dragons, I said, which explains the missing post yesterday. Dragon refused to remain slain long enough for me to write a post 😛 ) So one of the things I made sure I put on my face in the morning is a longwearing foundation because I knew I would be having a long day and I needed to put my best face forward. The past 2 days, I’ve been using the Diorskin Forever foundation which I was a bit on the fence about before, but which I’ve since worked around and love it for days when I need my makeup to set well and last all day without looking shiny. It involves a serum but I’ll share that tip soon – can’t spill all my secrets at one go right? 😉

But today its not about that. Its about the fact that Burberry Beauty has come out with a longwearing matte foundation too – the Velvet Foundation. Its been released together with the Autumn/Winter 2012 makeup collection that includes 3 new eyeshadow colours, and 2 lipsticks.

Based on my understanding, everything will remain part of the permanent collection so you have the time to think about it and whether you want it. That’s good too because we only have 1 Burberry Beauty counter in Malaysia and not everyone has access to it 🙂

I’ll just run through what’s available and tell you a little bit about the Velvet Foundation, and you can then tell me if you have tried Burberry makeup and what you like from it 🙂

Sculpt and Highlight: The Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Natural Highlighting Compact is nice for fair-skinned gals

June 13, 2012 Paris B 54 Comments

2012 will be marked down in my diary as the Year of the Bronzer! I bought my first bronzer last year and am still getting to grips with it. I experimented with the Dior Aurora Healthy Glow Tan powder this year, which I quite liked maybe because it had pink tones so I could use it as a blush, but I still had to be quite careful with it.

The latest one I’ve experimented with is the Burberry Sheer Summer Glow Natural Highlighting Compact. Burberry Beauty releases new products every season, usually in small batches of a new colour or a new product, but they always make them permanent. The Sheer Summer Glow compact powder is the only exception. This beauty is limited edition so you know what to do 😛

The Sheer Summer Glow is a palette of 4 coloured powders that can serve as bronzer and highlight and the texture is supposed to be fine enough to be used also as finishing powder. So you can just dust a thin layer all over for colour and to set makeup. It does look very pretty but I was curious to see if it might be too dark or brown for me as many bronzers are.

Rant: My Burberry Lip Cover lipstick has started to stink after just 6 months!

December 1, 2011 Paris B 61 Comments

burberry lipstick smells

I first got this Burberry Lip Cover back in April/May 2011. The colour is Delicate Rose and its a very lovely shade of pinky-nude that is surprisingly flattering on me and I’m sure on many. You can see swatches of it and my review of Delicate Rose here.

When I got it, I was not impressed by the flimsy packaging that gave way on me quite quickly. The magnet cover was a nice touch, but I was quite ambivalent about it. What I did note was that the lipstick had no smell. That was a nice touch.

Recently, I dug this one out again and when I twisted it up and placed it to my lips, I caught that unmistakeable waxy smell of lipstick from the 80’s. You know what I’m talking about right? That smell that says “I’m on my way to turning bad”.

Drat.
