My Bobbi Brown Story : All good stories start with a good foundation

February 25, 2019 Paris B 18 Comments

There are some makeup brands that enter your life like a comet, flying straight for your heart, and making a large impact. There are others that simmer at the back of your consciousness for years, like a slow burn, before one burst of oxygen ignites this interest and causes it to burst into flame.

For me, Bobbi Brown was the latter brand.

I only started experimenting with makeup when I started my first job. Neutral, muted colours that Bobbi Brown was known for, was not part of my makeup vocabulary then. I was all about blue and green eyeshadow, and shimmer and making sure people knew I had makeup on!

But to facilitate the application of all these colours, I needed a canvas.

Liquid foundation was new to me then. I had only used powder foundation (then known as 2-way cake – hands up everyone who remembers it called that!) and my one foray into liquid foundation was a disaster of epic proportions. I picked the wrong brand, wrong shade and wrong formula. Understandably, I was not confident to pick the right liquid foundation for myself.

Then, the slow burn that was at the back of my mind whispered to me – what about Bobbi Brown?

And just like that, a puff of oxygen blew across my consciousness and fanned my interest.

My love affair with the Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color is not a mere crush!

January 11, 2019 Paris B 8 Comments

How I came about trying (and loving – spoiler!) the Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color turned out to be via a rather circuitous route.

When it was first launched a year or two back, I initially looked at it, and then dismissed it as yet another balm-lipstick. Don’t get me wrong. I love balm-type lipsticks, but there are only so many I can have in my collection.

Then, I met a few people who raved about the Crushed Lip Color to me. Suddenly, the feeling of FOMO rose in me. I needed to find out what it was about these lipsticks that had these ladies raving about them.

One day, I stopped by the boutique, and the rest as they say, is history! 😀

Your Say: What is your favourite tinted lip balm for soft lips and barely there lip colour?

July 9, 2018 Paris B 16 Comments

Every year when Summer rolls around, thoughts turn to light makeup. For a few months in a year, most of the world knows what it feels like to live in Malaysia – hot, humid, and sweaty. Not a very conducive environment to wear heavy makeup! LOL!

It’s no wonder then that thoughts also turn to light, tinted lips in place of opaque, bold lip colours.

With this in mind, a reader asked me on Instagram, how I’d compare some of my favourite tinted lip balms, in particular, with the introduction of the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Lip Balm earlier this year.

I thought this was an interesting question. I was also curious to know if you have any favourite tinted lip balms for that barely there, transparent tint of colour on lips, on days when you’re just not arsed to wear lipstick. Do share!

Cushion Foundation Week 3 : Round-up and overall thoughts

April 1, 2018 Paris B 20 Comments

Thus ends the Cushion Foundation Week 3 – a series I never really intended to produce, but arose out of opportunity. After my last foray into cushion foundations in Week 1 and Week 2, I was quite set in my decision. Cushion compact foundations are for me a non-essential makeup item. I still prefer my liquid foundations, or BB Creams, and I stick by my preference.

I was quite pleased in my journey, to have discovered the Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion because it quickly became a firm favourite of mine. It is still the only cushion foundation I voluntarily use. The others I have, I use them as and when I remember, but they aren’t items I reach out for.

cushion foundation week 3 roundup

Cushion Foundation Week 3 arose not due to my desire to own more of these cushion things, but due to the enduring nature of this form of base makeup, that I predict will be around for quite a while to come. You will notice that all of them were generously provided by the respective brands, for which I am grateful. Barring Sulwhasoo, I don’t think I’d actually buy any of them. Yet, I was glad of the opportunity to try them, because I discovered the Shiseido cushions, that I would have otherwise overlooked.

To answer the many questions and requests from many of you, who have requested for reviews of cushions from other brands e.g. Shu Uemura, YSL and Lancome, just to name a few, my apologies. My desire to accumulate more of these is really low. But if I ever come by them in the near future, who knows. Perhaps I’d do a Week 4 (God forbid! LOL! 😀 ) I think you’re sick of this as much as I am 😛

But I did notice something interesting after doing this week’s comparison, that I thought I’d share with you 🙂
