Introducing some Malaysian Cosmetics brands I have tried and liked

August 31, 2010 Paris B 31 Comments

Today’s a public holiday here in Malaysia where I’m based (in case anyone has missed that LOL!) because its our National Day or Independance Day. And in the spirit of patriotism here are some brands which are homegrown and the noteworthy items I have tried from them (in no particular order).

Do note however, that there are many more brands out there that are Malaysian owned but I haven’t tried them all. There are also a couple of brands which I have nothing very nice to say so I won’t 😛 If you know of more noteworthy local brands or products, do leave your comment in the comment box below! 🙂

Beautilicious Cosmetics

The brand seems to have quietened down a little since it was launched. I’m still using the Arch it Right Brow Kit (for the awesome tweezers and brow powders) and the Magic Spell Auto Eyeliner, both of which are definitely worth taking a look into. Also consider the eyeshadow palettes – Alyssa and Smoke Gets in your Eyes are surefire recommendations from me. View availability here.

Silkygirl Cosmetics

The name is a little kiddy and so is the image, but there are a couple of hidden gems in there. The Moisture Max lipgloss isn’t bad for something that affordable, and the Funky Eyeliner pencils deserve a worthy mention.

Beautilicious Cosmetics Magic Spell Auto Eyeliner puts me under a spell!

February 8, 2010 Paris B 22 Comments

Let me introduce you to my new favourite pencil eyeliner – meet the Magic Spell Auto Eyeliner by Beautilicious Cosmetics.

Here’s what I like about it:-

  • Its easy to use – just twist and draw
  • Its soft and does not tug on your lids – applies creamy
  • Its dark and can be smudged for a smokey look – yet it does not smudge too much throughout the course of the day

There are 2 colours – Black and Brown. I can’t choose between them. Black is seriously black – its like black crayon and its great for very strong defined eyes. Brown is less harsh and great for a softer look.

What’s cute about the Magic Spell Auto Liner is that its an all in one gadget. It comes with a cute sharpener that you can use to sharpen your crayon if you want a thinner more defined line. Most automatic liners don’t include this so its a nice touch. I don’t usually bother because I line thickly (or it can’t be seen 😛 )

Review: Beautilicious Alyssa makeup palette

September 7, 2009 Paris B 10 Comments

I was in Watsons Gurney Plaza Penang on Saturday and noticed how clean and bright the Beautilicious counter looks now. It also reminded me I’d yet to write about one of my favourite items from the brand – Alyssa! Despite what some thought, no I was still on a work trip – boo! 🙁 Working on the holiday thing though 🙂

Other than Majolica Majorca, we in Malaysia don’t get many prettily packaged drugstore/pharmacy makeup. Sometimes, we want the look of Stila but at a wallet-friendly price. Even more so now that Stila’s taken a one way flight back to the USA. I am very happy to note that the Beautilicious palettes fit right into this niche – functional yet prettily packaged makeup palettes at a wallet-friendly price.

The Beautilicious makeup palettes come in 3 colour combinations for now – Alyssa, Victoria and a pop color palette – Dessert Bar.

I love blues and greys for the eyes so the minute I saw Alyssa I said “She’s MINE!” and you know what? She is! The colours in the palette are shimmery and fine to the touch. They are on the slightly sheerer side but buildable for effect especially if you use it over a cream eye base. I don’t have problems with oily lids so the colours lasted on me without a base for the whole day from 1pm to 11pm – no creasing, minimal fading.
