You Asked: My Skincare Routine Day and Night

July 30, 2011 Paris B 39 Comments

Morning! Rise and shine! Or if you’re reading this at any other time, rise and shine anyway 🙂

I’ve had a request from reader Shay most recently in the comments, and from an uncountable number of emails, to share my skincare routine. I’ve been meaning to do a post about it for the longest time, so no better time than the present. Really!

Note: (1) Products I use will change from time to time. What does not change however, is the routine and sequence of products used. (2) I am on a hydrating and anti-aging skincare regime (3) This isn’t gospel and is liable to change often 🙂

Here’s my daily skincare routine and the products I’m currently using. Remember, you can click through to read my reviews if there are any 🙂

Morning – Rise and Shine!

  • Wash with cleanser du jour – presently Vichy Essentialles facial cleanser * (but I’m getting bored) or Aesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Oil
  • Pat on a lotion – presently Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil Free toner or L’Occitane Angelica face toner

Cleansing Oils I have used over the years and some Tips on using Cleansing Oils properly

April 19, 2011 Paris B 81 Comments

When I asked for your opinions on whether one should use cleansing oils even if you don’t use makeup, I had a few readers (Shay, Kay Es etc) ask for my thoughts on the cleansing oils I’ve used. Eeks! Do you know how long I’ve been at it and how many I’ve been through? haha…

But I do like using cleansing oils and I have found some that I like and will merrily tell you to buy (provided you don’t buy them all and leave nothing for me 😛 ) and I have also found some that do not work for me.

cleansing oils I've used before

As for how to use cleansing oil to avoid that oily feel after cleansing, try reading my earlier tip on how to properly use cleansing oils. Proper emulsification will reduce the oily feel, but a lot also depends on the texture of the cleansing oil in question. The oily feeling never goes away for some I’ve tried, even if you emulsify like crazy.

So, from memory, here is a quick run down of the cleansing oils I’ve used. Its long, so make sure you have food and water on hand so you don’t expire 😛

The Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Oil has a moral to this fable

March 10, 2011 Paris B 24 Comments

I am such a sucker for cleansing oils. I have a bazillion-million lying around from various brands and I always am tempted by another. Its a sickness I tell you. I hope I’m not alone in this one 😛

Anyway, one day, while I was at an Aesop counter browsing, I was offered a mini-facial to try some of their products. I’m not too familiar with Aesop, so I said yes. This was at the Aesop counter at 1 Utama and if they aren’t too busy, you can try asking to see if they’d do the same for you 🙂 So anyway, one of the items they used on me was the Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Oil.

Cleansing Oil! Ding! Ding! I had to have it 😛 So the next time I saw Aesop having a promo (this was last year at Bangsar Village 2) I picked up a bottle. Its a RM185 bottle of cleansing oil and my wallet cried out in protest at this. Its likely to be the most expensive cleansing oil I’ve purchased to date!

So I took it home, skipping with joy (but carefully because its a heavy glass bottle) and got into the shower to use the cleansing oil as I always do – on dry face with dry hands, as a makeup remover.

Oh boy. Big mistake.

This Aesop Primrose Facial Cleansing Masque is no Fable

February 17, 2011 Paris B 34 Comments

Are you familiar with Aesop? Its the Australian skincare brand that carries products made from plant based ingredients. I might have used something from them many many years ago but I can’t remember anymore. I’ve since remedied that with 2 Aesop products – Aesop Primrose Facial Cleansing Masque and the Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Oil. Today, you’re going to hear about the mask 🙂

review aesop primrose facial cleansing masque

What the Aesop Primrose Facial Cleansing Masque is, is a clay mask. Did I just hear a cheer go up from the oily skinned gals? 😀

Clay masks as we know, are great for oily skins because it helps to reduce sebum. In the case of the Primrose Facial Cleansing Mask, it is supposed to also contain anti-oxidant plant extracts and Vitamin E and is for deep cleansing of the skin. What this tells us therefore is that this isn’t a mask you can use everyday. At most, perhaps twice a week if you have problem skin, or at best, once a week.
