Coconut Milk for your hair

March 16, 2007 Paris B 6 Comments

I learnt this from a friend and I’m happy to say that it works a treat!

What you need:

1 small box of coconut milk – any cheap brand will do
1 old towel
1 disposable shower cap

What you do

  1. Drizzle the coconut milk all over your hair, making sure that you really soak it.
  2. Cover your hair with the shower cap.
  3. Wrap your head up with the old towel
  4. Leave on at least half an hour to an hour
  5. Wash off, shampoo and condition as per normal

I prefer using coconut milk (thinner consistency) although you can also use coconut cream (santan – thicker consistency). If you are using coconut cream then you will end up using less and its less messy, but I find its oilier and harder to wash off. I usually have to shampoo twice or 3 times to ensure my hair is clean.

This tip can get rather messy so make sure you hang your head over a sink when drizzling coconut milk over your hair, or do it in the bathroom. I usually tie another towel around my neck to catch whatever coconut milk drips from my head. If you want to speed it up, you can use your hair dryer and blast your wrapped up head for about 5-10 minutes then wash off. Oh and also be careful about the floor too.

You will sometimes see Low-Fat coconut milk being sold in the supermarkets. Whilst low-fat is great for your body, its not so great for your hair. What you want is the full-fat non diluted stuff. Thats where all the lovely coconut oil is that will work magic on your hair.

The oil in the coconut milk leaves my hair looking shiny and feeling soft. It doesn’t smell bad – just coconuty and sweet. My friend uses this very regularly and says that she can use any old brand of shampoo without destroying her hair. I’m less diligent so I only do it when I remember. But the effect on your hair is quite instantaneous! Best of all, its cheap!

My Favourite Fragrances

March 15, 2007 Paris B 4 Comments

Tine tagged me on Champagne Tastes some time back. I’m sorry to say it sorta got shoved to the back of the cupboard for a while as things got hairy in real life. I never forgot it however, so Tine, here are my favourite fragrances. I coudln’t find 5 – sad or not? heh… Oh and don’t expect to get some write up about notes and things – I only know if it smells good on me or not thats all 😛

I bought this at DFS (Duty Free Galleria) when it was still in Kuala Lumpur (its since closed down) because I loved the smell. The bottle is also terribly cute in pink with a clear lucite cap. It smells sweet and though I’ve read online its meant for evening use, I love it for the day as I think it smells rather fresh. It was limited edition I believe so I can’t get it anymore – boohoo! I’m hoarding the one bottle I have though.

Stella

I love Stella McCartney’s first perfume. It reminds me of London where I first bought it at Heathrow as I was leaving. It smells light and of roses to me. I absolutely adore it even if the smell fades away after a while. The bottle is also really nice in a luxurious cut design in purple glass.

Gucci II

Gucci II was given to me one birthday. Its sweet but rather unusual, which is why I like it. I don’t normally do well with sweet perfumes. I find it rather sharp at first, but it mellows down to a powdery scent which suits me fine.

Alexander McQueen – Kingdom

Yet another perfume that brings back memories of London. This time, of Selfridges on a cold Spring evening. This is rather musky and not everyone will like it. I on the other hand, love it as every time I smell it, I’m transported to the city I enjoy being in at a time of year I enjoy too! The bottle is interesting even if its a little hard to spritz.

There you have it. My favourite fragrances! I think I’m going to tag PinkElle again (because she needs some traffic lol!) and Mae to see what their faves are!

Lasik suspended in eye centre in Singapore

March 15, 2007 Paris B Leave a Comment

I posted this in my other blog, but thought it was worth a mention here too, just in case.

Apparently an eye centre in Singapore has suspended their Lasik procedures after 17 cases of eye infection were reported there. They will be checking their machines and have provided a number you can contact them at if you need assistance.

The full article is at the Straits Times so take a look if you have concerns.

Dresses at Isetan KL

March 15, 2007 Paris B 5 Comments

I received the latest newsletter from Isetan KL and was taken in by their dresses. They have collaborated with some local designers to launch some collections for Isetan’s in-house brands like Cultivation and Cescendo.

Here are 3 outfits that caught my eye.

The turquoise blouse was eyecatching to me because of the colour. Somehow this colour makes me look ultra-fair = love hehe… Of course la, must wear things that make you look good right? Its RM129 but when I actually saw it in store, somehow it didn’t look as good as in the picture. I was in a hurry though so I’m going to look again.

The other thing that I really liked is the black wrap dress. I’ve been dying to get one ala Diane von Fusternberg whose wrap dresses are a fashion icon everywhere. I wonder if it’ll make me look fat though 😛 I’ll take a look anyway. I couldn’t find it in Lot 10 the other day.

And here’s another nice looking dress.

Actually, its 2 dresses. The top chiffon layer is a whopping RM1,099 while the bottom layer (sold separately) is RM999!!! Shocked or not? I was. I cannot imagine paying RM1,099 for a thin layer of chiffon that I can only wear over another layer of clothing or risk shocking the general public.

That said, I think I’ll drop by Isetan soon, if only to look for that elusive wrap dress.
