Where to shop for makeup in Hong Kong?

September 8, 2008 Paris B

If you go to Hong Kong, by just looking at the proliferation of cosmetics stores, you’d think every woman there is made up to the nines. Its not quite true. But the women in Hong Kong do take more trouble with their appearance or so I find. When I go to the business areas of Hong Kong, I see the women executives made up carefully in light colours and dressed well. Even on a weekend, the girls of Hong Kong are well dressed in their casual outfits and with casual light makeup on.

While we are seeing more of this in Malaysia, I do still think women in Malaysia don’t take as much trouble especially working women. All that said, beauty and cosmetics is a HUGE industry in Hong Kong and the stores are there to prove it, and not to mention even advertising the latest Autumn 2008 collection on a tram!

Back from the holidays!

August 27, 2008 Paris B 28 Comments

I’m back from my short little break (too short if you ask me!) and it’ll take me a while to get back into the swing of things, work included! Can you say backlog?! 😛

Anyway, where was I? HONG KONG! 😀

Shopping in HK

Land of the food and the shopping! I ate a LOT (I’m very sure I’ve put on a kilo or two) and I walked a LOT (my legs are still hurting) but surprisingly enough, I did not shop as much as I hoped to. Lots of sales were on but nothing caught my eye. I will write more about the shopping to be found in Hong Kong soon in the weeks to come, including a treatise on the makeup to be found in HK (based on memory). In the meantime, here’s my not very large haul:-Continue Reading

Tips: Don’t throw away those samples!

samples

I always ask for samples when I’m at a beauty counter and usually, sales assistants are happy to oblige. Well, some aren’t so happy but I get round them anyway 😛 After all, these samples (usually of skincare) are there to be given out so people can try a product to see if they like it before they buy it. Also, you sometimes get generous deluxe sizes of samples or gifts with purchase that can be very useful.

I always keep a box of samples of various skincare or makeup items handy and there are a few reasons why I like having product samples:-Continue Reading

Bella Italia!

April 2, 2007 Paris B 8 Comments

Doris tagged me to ask where I wanted to go. This tag is rather convoluted, but I’d seen it around before, so I wasn’t as confused as I usually am. Here goes.

My #1 place to visit at the moment is Japan. I want to see the Sakura and I’m sore about the fact my trip got cancelled. However, Msau has already taken that country, so here’s mine.

Italy! I’d say the whole country, but where I’d really like to visit for now is the Tuscany countryside. I’d visited Florence when I was a student and I fell in love with the countryside. It was winter when I was there, but it was perfect weather – the sun was shining and it wasn’t so cold as to freeze off your toes. The trees were green and gold, and the villages were so quaint and so…. Italian! It was absolutely lovely!

I want to stay in a farmhouse in the countryside, where I can eat fresh fruit in the back garden, and spread fresh jam and nutella over fresh crusty bread, and drink wine, and stuff my face with pasta. Of course, I’m there for the food! Not to mention Gelato, gelato and gelato! I love Italy. I’ve been planning to go back for ages, but its just too costly and too time consuming for now.

Still a girl can dream and who knows, a couple of years down the road, this dream will be a reality and I can really then say Ciao Bella Italia!  😀
