Toner/Lotion

Keep it simple with Clinique 1-2-3

August 13, 2009 Paris B 50 Comments

Life’s simple – don’t complicate it!

Thats the mantra I live by… or try to live by. But seriously, life IS simple – its people who are complicated 😛 And in the spirit of keeping it simple, I’ve been using Clinique’s 3 step programme these couple of weeks. Does that make me sound like I’m in rehab?

Clinique 3 Step

Clinique’s 3 step programme has been around forever but this is the first time I’m trying it over a prolonged period! What it is is essentially cleanse, tone and moisturize – 3 essential skincare steps which we may or may not practice but which we should right from our first blush of youth 🙂

First off, let me say that before using the Clinique 3 step programme, you should get down to a counter and get the sales assistants to match you up to the right products. You might need a stronger or lighter toner or a lighter or heavier moisturizer, but could make do with a normal cleanser. In my case, I was #2 for cleanser and moisturizer but I was advised to get a #1 toner – its milder for my skin. So get thee down to a counter and don’t listen to your friend or even to me because our skin types are all different so what works for me or your friend may not work for you!

The products I have are trial sizes and Clinique sells sets of these trial sizes for RM105 so you can try them out before you buy the full sizes – I like that! At least I know if something goes wrong, I did not blow a wad of cash. Have you tried the Clinique 3 Step? Here’s my thoughts on it.

Step 1 Cleanse – Clinique Facial Soap #2 Mild – Normal to Dry skin

clinique facial wash

I was diagnosed with dry combination skin. Yes yes… the aging process has started. But that’s no reason to skip cleansing. The Clinique cleanser #2 is a gel cleanser which cleans my skin well without causing it to feel dry. As it is formulated for combination to dry skin, it would have been disastrous had it pulled my skin taut and tight! I use it twice a day – in the morning and evening after makeup remover. Its Ok but did not remove my makeup very well (without a makeup remover beforehand).

Vichy Thermal Spa Water Spray : Staying Cool in this heat!

July 29, 2009 Paris B 41 Comments

Vichy Thermal Spray Water

I don’t know about you but the recent heatwave in KL is killing me! We were having bouts of cooling rain in the past weeks and then suddenly in the past 2 weeks, nary a drop to be seen with the burning sun beating down on us. If you drive, its even worse – it feels like being in a microwave oven, which when you think about, probably is. 😛

Anyway, this Vichy Thermal Spa Water is what I’ve been staying cool with. This isn’t just your run of the mill water. Its pure Thermal Spa Water containing minerals and if you taste some of it (don’t go drinking it!) it actually tastes a little salty (No one else reports this. Maybe its just my wonky tongue)

In this never ending heatwave, this can of Vichy Thermal Spa Water has been like a God-send. In the morning, I spritz it on before my moisturizer and again before my makeup to help cool down and after applying my makeup to help set it. It helps my makeup lasts the whole day this way. Add to the fact I apply my makeup over the Vichy Normaderm Pore Refining Essence which unwittingly acts as a primer but that is the subject of a different review 😉

Review: Skincare: Mukti Balancing Skincare Line

January 29, 2009 Paris B 21 Comments

My few forays into organic skincare has been a bit of a touch and go. Many were not easily available in Malaysia and I only found so-so results from using them. It must be because I don’t have very very sensitive skin. In fact my skin can be pretty hardy considering the torture I put it through sometimes, in my mad scientist experiments and product testing. Not tested on animals but on me! That should be my tagline eh? haha…

Anyway, I purchased a travel set of Mukti’s skincare from Bodybar Natural Skincare to test to see if I liked them enough to switch over. The set consisted of a gentle facial cleanser, mist toner and a balancing cream. Having been using the Mukti skincare range exclusively at night for a month or so, I think I’m ready with my view on the products.

Mukti Balancing Skincare

Mukti Botanicals Organic Skincare

Mukti Botanicals is a line of organic skincare from Australia that uses ingredients that are certified organic by the Australian Government. According to the pledge at Mukti’s website, they state that they “only utilise the purest & highest grade certified organic and natural ingredients, therefore, a little of our product goes a long way.”

I cannot vouch for their organic certification, but I can vouch for a little going a long way. I really like the Mukti Rosehip Eye gel (product not packaging) and I can safely say that a little goes a long way.
