Vitamin C

I found The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% serum just … ordinary

March 27, 2017 Paris B 57 Comments

Those of you who are in tune with the going ons in the skincare world would have come across The Ordinary – a somewhat ordinary sounding name of a new range of skincare that is so revolutionary, it’s pretty much rocked the world of skincare enthusiasts. It’s also received rave reviews online from many big names in the industry. The key reason is the price because products in The Ordinary range are very very affordably priced, for what is supposed to be very potent and effective ingredients. So affordably priced, it makes you wonder if there’s a catch.

Because they are the brainchild of the people behind Deciem, the other popular brand for effective products that don’t break the bank, I was more comfortable picking up a few pieces, sight unseen. I bought directly from the Deciem website although you can get The Ordinary in a few other places online (not retailed in Malaysia at time of publishing – please don’t ask. The info about product availability is always detailed in all my posts wherever I can, especially local availability where possible. However, I’m not a fan of product resellers or pre-orders or bulk buyers so I never recommend any. I’m all about buying directly from trusted sources, never from Instagram or Facebook and I suggest that you do the same /climbs off soapbox).

The first product I was most excited to try was The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% (I’ll call it The Ordinary Vitamin C serum for short) as I’d just run out of mine and was raring to try more Vitamin C products as I find them very effective.

The Ordinary Vitamin C serum slides in at under US$10 (£5) and I was curious as a cat with its 9 lives intact. There were so many raves for the brand online – might this be my wallet’s saviour?

The Dr. Brandt Power Dose Vitamin C might be small but it sure is mighty good stuff!

November 18, 2016 Paris B 16 Comments

While I’d known for many years about the efficacy of vitamin C for skin, as an antioxidant and for clarifying and firming up the skin, I’d never had much luck with it. It wasn’t until I used the Hylamide C25 Booster that I actually noticed results. Since then, I’ve been itching to try more, and maybe, better formulas.

I found one!

I first came across the Dr. Brandt Power Dose Vitamin C on Futurederm, which I’d suggest you read for a clinical breakdown (and favourable) review of this serum. The minute I clapped eyes on that post, I knew I had to have it.

Fortuitously, a bottle of the Dr. Brandt Power Dose Vitamin C popped onto my desk one day, much to my squeals of delight 🙂 My first reaction when I saw the bottle was a disbelieving frown. If you notice from the box, it is a mere 16.3ml of product. It’s TINY!

Yet, this serum has visibly clarified my skin even further than what I saw with Hylamide C25 Booster, and even more significantly, it had lightened my pigmentation. That’s what sold me onto this product and convinced me I was on to a winner.

Orange you glad I found a stablized Vitamin C serum in the Hylamide C25 Booster?

May 13, 2016 Paris B 29 Comments

When I decided to delve into the world of Hylamide, it was because of the SubQ Anti-Age serum that was so highly raved. Personally though, I didn’t notice significant enough results to join in the raves, even though I do think that it’s a decent product.

When I made my order though, I wanted to get something else – since I was shipping the serum all the way from Canada, I might as well ship something else along with it! And that something was the Hylamide C25 Booster Stabilized Vitamin C Booster serum.

I didn’t come across many reviews for it at the time. Perhaps it was new (about 6 months back or so) but I was curious, as I’d just been told by a friend about how effective using vitamin c had been for brightening and clarifying her complexion. The thing about Vitamin C though, is that it is quite unstable, so oxidises quite quickly, nullifying it’s antioxidant properties.

This Hylamide C25 Booster however, claimed to be a stabilized version of a vitamin C, which allows them to package it into a clear bottle (most products that contain vitamin c come in brown/dark bottles), and to not oxidise, therefore keeping it effective. The key ingredient here is 25% Etyhyl Ascorbic Acid that’s stabilized, and the ingredient list that you’ll see below is impressively short!

Above all, I think this an excellent product, and in the big scheme of serums, it’s not wallet-bustingly expensive! 🙂

The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser says they’ll calm dull, tired, grumpy skin

August 31, 2015 Paris B 17 Comments

A while ago, I was offered the opportunity to try the newly available Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturiser by The Body Shop. This is part of what seems to be a revamped Vitamin C range from the brand. I used to be quite a fan of the Vitamin C Skinboost Serum, although I’m not sure if it’s still available now. So, not having used much from TBS for a while, I agreed to give it a try.

Part of the reason as well, was due to the clever description on the tub which proclaims it to be for “Dull, tired, grumpy skin” Grumpy skin! Yes, I have that from time to time LOL!

I dug into this after running out of my regular day moisturiser (which I happen to love btw) and while I was going through a period of dull skin, no thanks to stress and poor sleeping habits. I was hoping that the light gel texture would help my dull, tired and yes, very grumpy skin. The question of course is, did it?
