Kose Softymo Cleansing Oil – Inexpensive must buy from Hong Kong

March 12, 2010 Paris B 33 Comments

While I was clearing out my room, I came across my little stash of Kose Softymo cleansing oils. I remembered I’d never told you about my inexpensive must-buy item whenever I go to Hong Kong!

Softymo is an inexpensive drugstore brand under the mother brand of Kose. These used to used be available in Watson’s and Sasa here in Malaysia. However, I have not seen them around for years now. I believe they are no longer brought in.

Why I say they are a must buy is because this is a great little bottle of cleansing oil. I always buy it for something like HKD35/45 a bottle which is just about RM20 here and it works so well.

Christmas Gift Guide & Best of 2009 : Smooth as fresh snow

December 3, 2009 Paris B 2 Comments

What the… ??

Skin as smooth as fresh snow is what I’m going for 🙂

Skincare is always a tricky thing to get as gifts. Well, unless you already know what your friends are using and what their concerns are and what they are allergic to! Here are my picks for the best of skincare in 2009 – available in department stores and pharmacies.

For acne prone skin or oily skin:-

  • I like the Vichy Pore Refining Essence from Vichy Laboratoires – it works so well for me to reduce pores.
  • Cellnique Skin Action Serum gel is great for melting black and whiteheads and reducing spots.
  • Kiehl’s Rare Earth pore refining masque helps get rid of oil, and leaves skin feeling smooth.

For anti-aging or older skin:-

  • For a touch of luxury, I’d get Elemis – the Marine Recovery cream which is crazy awesome but it is only found at selected spas for now – notably at Mandara Spas in and around Kuala Lumpur (I know of Renaissance Hotel and Sheraton Imperial Hotel).
  • Not quite luxury but still in the expensive range of skincare is Lancome Primordiale Nuit which is an amazing night cream I like too and have for years.
  • Dior Capture XP Nuit overnight recovery serum seems to be working well for me now that I’m nearly done with the bottle!

Botani – Botanical Skincare from Australia

November 24, 2009 Paris B Leave a Comment

botani

I received some sample sized Botani skincare a while ago. I tried them and kept meaning to tell you about them but found I did not have much to say. So instead, I’ll tell you first about the one I liked.

The product I enjoyed using most was the Botani Olive Hand Cream (100ml/RM88.50). It was thick yet absorbed quite quickly and left my hands feeling smooth and soft. I kept it in my office because the sample was small and dinky and practical. There is a light scent which does not bother me and a little goes a long way as my 3ml sample lasted me a while.

The other products I tested were facial products. The Botani Olive Soothing Cleanser (100ml/RM106.50) is a cream cleanser which you can use as a makeup remover. I applied it on dry skin and tissued off, but found that it did not quite remove all my makeup so I followed up with the Botani Purify Facial Cleanser (50ml/RM67.50) a gel based cleanser. It did not leave my skin feeling dry which is a plus but my samples of both cleansers were gone in 1 use so I can’t quite say how good they are with repeated use.

Ask & Answer: Recommend an eye cream and eye makeup remover

September 25, 2009 Paris B 18 Comments

ask us!

Reader Shyra wrote in with her queries about eye care – eye cream and eye makeup remover specifically. Here’s her query:-

Hi Paris. I just came across your blog today and I’m happy that you’re kind enough to provide information on some products. Thanks for your review! 🙂

Btw, I have 2 questions for you:

* I have a very bad dark circles (and there’s puffiness) can you recommend any products that is good for it? Any eye cream and/or mask?

* Can you recommend to me which brand gives the best face and eye make up remover (not in oil type as I was told not to use the oil type) as I’m looking for these products.

Your recommendations are much appreciated. Thank you 🙂

~Shyra~

To answer Shyra I split the questions into 2 – eye cream and eye makeup remover.

For eye cream, I’ve used a couple of products:-

  • Garnier Roll On eye treatment – fun but no discernible results for me other than a cooling sensation on the skin.
  • Strivectin SD eye cream – helps with fine lines, less so with puffiness and dark eye circles
  • Dior Capture Instant Rescue Eye Treatment – visibly depuffs puffy eyes almost immediately and brightens the eye area – good for mornings when you wake up looking and feeling like some bug eyed monster! Review coming up! 😉

The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of each other 😁 Kiddo turns 4 and celebrated with specially made doggy burgers & fries.

I got him in early Jan 2020 so he’s only been with me less than 4 years but it’s been incredible to see how he’s grown (or not), and how he’s slowly mellowed with age (or not!). He’s still that crazy rambunctious puppy who terrorises other dogs, begging them to play and barking at them when they don’t. He’s a greedy fella who makes me think I’m the greatest chef in the world (in the dog world maybe!) and he still gets crazy eyes when excited.

But I’ve also found more white hair around his eyes and he sleeps in more and later now. He doesn’t even get up early enough to jump onto the bed as he used to 😔

4 years is practically adulthood in doggy years and I’m thankful that we have the opportunity to spend lots of time together even if I bemoan having to bring him everywhere I go.

Happy 4 years boy ❤️

We just started retailing our dog treats @quandogtreats at our first offline outpost! We’re available exclusively at Lex’s Patio Pantry @lexpatiopantry, a brand new cosy spot in the heart of Bangsar.

Housed at the base of Kapas Condominium, (enter from Jalan Penaga), you’ll find the brand new Lex’s Patio Pantry, a curated grocer with pantry staples and a little cafe set up offering breakfast and lunch. It’s a lovely spot that is quiet and green, filled with all sorts of wonderful goodies, and is best of all, pet friendly! Scroll to the end to see what my efforts are like trying to get a photo with the kid 😒

This explains my lack of updates generally. Been very busy preparing for this, and amazingly enough, moving operations again! It’s a long sucky story but it might have just turned out for the best for us so as they say about windows opening and closing, sometimes you just have to go with the flow and look for the open window when doors close.

P/s yes I also need a haircut - badly 😅
