Facial Oils

Falling in love with the Skin Creamery Facial Hydrating Oil and granting it permanent residence on my dresser

April 19, 2017 Paris B 12 Comments

I have a sneaky suspicion that I might have just found another skincare brand that can do me no wrong. Or at least, do me little wrong. (You already know the other one) Incidentally, it is another fairly niche natural skincare brand with organic ingredients. Might this be a new trend for me?

The odd thing also, is that this new skincare brand I’m currently a little more than enamoured with, also hails from the Southern Hemisphere. Hmm curiouser and curiouser!

The brand in question is Skin Creamery, which hails from South Africa. My first encounter with it was through the Everyday Cream that you can use on face and body, and it really impressed me. I still use it, although as a hand and body cream more than a face cream these days. That said, now and again, I use it for a basic moisturiser, and it’s all good.

The second thing I tried out was the Skin Creamery Facial Hydrating Oil. Ah, facial oils! I took a while getting around to this, but the moment I put it on my skin, I knew I was onto a winner and it’s now taken up permanent residence on my dresser! 😀

That famous blue Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil and why I won’t be buying any more Sunday Riley

March 14, 2017 Paris B 71 Comments

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil is one I lusted after, thanks to the many raves online when it first came out over a year ago. I hmmed and hawed for a while before eventually pulling the trigger, and ordering it online, because we don’t get the brand here in Malaysia.

I’ve had it for something like a year? Maybe more. I bought it not long after its launch (suckerrrr!) and I’ve been kind of struggling with this for the better part of a year now.

The biggest problem with the Sunday Riley Luna oil, is the price. I bought it for £85 which is a jaw-dropping sum of money to drop on a product I wasn’t sure about.

When I was first interested in it, the Luna Oil came highly raved by many big bloggers, who claimed it made their skin so smooth. Further, the addition of retinol in an oil was a unique formula. Sunday Riley claims that the Luna oil contains an advanced retinol complex, that visibly lessens lines and wrinkles, while correcting damage by the sun, time and exposure. And it does all this while you sleep, as it is an oil you want to use only at night. They even claim that pregnant women shouldn’t use this, indicating that the retinol content is high enough to transfer to the bloodstream and affect unborn foetuses. On top of everything, it claims to be non drying and to offer up plumped, luminous skin.

The problem is, I’m very conflicted about this product. On the one hand, I actually don’t mind it. It’s not bad. But on the other hand, I feel terribly cheated and that has made me side-eye all Sunday Riley products henceforth. I don’t even want to buy any other products from the brand (for which my wallet sighs in relief LOL! 😀 )

Let May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon envelop your skin in its intoxicating iconic balm

August 1, 2016 Paris B 46 Comments

These days I’m a little obsessed about skincare, and that’s rather dangerous because a lot of what I’m obsessed with isn’t available locally. That’s fine, with the invention of the internet, except that a lot of what I’m obsessed with tends to cost a pretty penny as well. Now, that’s the true nub of the problem.

I’d been eyeing the May Lindstrom brand up and down for quite a while, but was too afraid to take the plunge for a very long time due to the high pricetag. However, some time last year, I saw that one of the iconic products – May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon – was included in one of the Cult Beauty boxes, and that’s when I decided to take a chance on it. If it didn’t work for me, at least I didn’t pay full price for it, since there were other items in the box I could enjoy.

Well, it’s only taken me till NOW to give it a go and to tell you about it! To be honest, I only remembered I had it, when my skin was going a little nuts not long ago, and thought a simple skincare routine with just this would help. At the time, because I hadn’t identified the problem, it wasn’t a lot of help, and I mentioned on Instagram that I was disappointed. When I solved the issue with my skin, Blue Cocoon helped my skin recover and I was SOLD! I lapped it up, all £126/US$160 (RM680 approx) of it. OUCH!

Skincare Hack: Help! I have no makeup remover, what can I use?

July 27, 2016 Paris B 20 Comments

Ever had an emergency when you need to remove your makeup, but don’t have a makeup remover on hand? I’m usually quite well organised when it comes to my skincare, so I don’t usually have this problem. When I’m travelling, I usually have a small bottle of cleansing water / micellar water on hand, and I’m proud of myself for being so organized.

But I recently found myself in this exact predicament. Pride comes before a fall, as they say!

use moisturiser to remove makeup

Lest you think there’s a juicy story behind it, there isn’t LOL! 😀 It was on my most recent flight home, when I had boarded the plane and was about to cleanse my face. I had on some brow pencil and a light layer of BB Cushion and concealer… but I realised that my on-board toiletries pouch had no cleanser! No makeup remover, no cleansing water, no cleanser.

What was a girl to do? Well, improvise of course! 😉
