A skincare routine should not be complicated : Focus on the 6 Pillars of Skincare

September 24, 2018 Paris B 27 Comments

I mentioned once before that we are in the Age of Skincare in the beauty world, and with it comes many self-proclaimed experts. Rather, sometimes, people confuse enthusiasts, like me, with an expert, which can lead to all sorts of problems.

But what I’ve really noticed, from following such experts and enthusiasts, it’s this – A skincare routine is now made out to be far more complicated than it used to be.

skincare is not complicated

But it doesn’t have to be.

I’m not saying of course, that the original 3-step skincare routine popularized by Clinique should be the way to go. While those 3 steps form the basic pillars of a skincare routine, I do believe that they can be supplemented and further strengthened by additional pillars.

I just don’t believe that you have to think so hard about it, nor believe that a complicated, multi-product, multi-layered skincare routine will be the best thing for your skin 😛

5 Niche and Cult Skincare and Beauty Brands to consider trying at Caliata

November 22, 2017 Paris B 13 Comments

This post is written in collaboration with and kindly sponsored by Caliata.com

About a month ago, I introduced you to Caliata.com, an online beauty store based in Malaysia. What made Caliata stand out from other websites I’ve come across, was their brand selection (and the fact that their founder is very passionate about skincare and beauty herself). As I scanned the range of brands and products they carried, I found my excitement mounting. Here, finally, was a local online store that carried beauty, especially skincare, brands and products I like or have been curious about, but could only get online from overseas!

caliata featured brands

As a beauty and skincare buff, I’d tried, or am familiar with most of the brands carried by Caliata. They are primarily niche or cult brands, that aren’t necessarily easily available on mainstream websites, or stores. For some of them, if you haven’t been keeping your finger on the cult skincare pulse, you may not be familiar with the products or brands at all. So, I thought I’d share with you a sampling of 5 of these niche and cult skincare brands that stand out on Caliata. If you have tried any of them, I’d love to hear your thoughts too, because I may have sampled, but not tried them all! 🙂

My Skincare Routine September 2017 : Use it up or lose it! Products I have emptied

October 9, 2017 Paris B 34 Comments

I shared my skincare routine last in August 2017, and said I’d make it a more regular segment here on the blog, if only for my personal reference, to remind myself of what works (and what doesn’t). What you may notice is that while the products will switch around and change from time to time, the structure of my routine remains pretty much the same, which is what makes it a “routine”.

In August, I was all about calming down my skin that was feeling sensitive. By September, my skin was calm and zen, and I was ready to play around again. But I set myself a goal.

skincare routine september 2017

I had a bunch of skincare that were either on their last legs, or almost expired, and I gave myself a challenge of either using them up, or tossing them out.

Happily, I ended up using up and emptying quite a few items, which made me very happy. I know it is odd to be happy about emptying a skincare product (I should be sad, as it means I have to purchase something to fit its missing hole in my routine) but I have other similar products waiting in line to take its place, and I was excited to have a go at them! 😀 #beautyjunkieproblems

So, here’s my skincare routine in September 2017 including what I’d finished, and I’ll tell you if I’ll repurchase them 🙂 Feel free to share your thoughts, or even your routine with me! I’m a nosy parker 😀

RUN! Don’t walk to grab the Trilogy No. 15 Limited Edition Beauty Oil!

September 11, 2017 Paris B 25 Comments

Last week, I shared on Instagram a picture and some brief thoughts on the brand new Trilogy No. 15 Limited Edition Beauty Oil, and there was such an overwhelming reception with so many questions, I had to get a blog post out pronto! LOL!

trilogy no. 15 limited edition beauty oil

To celebrate 15 years of skincare innovation, Australian brand Trilogy, had created and released a special, No. 15 limited edition beauty oil. There’s no real name, so I’m not sure if I should call it No. 15 or the Limited Edition Beauty Oil, so I’ll call it both 😛

I was sent a bottle by local distributor, TNS Skinlab a few weeks ago, and it being an oil, I quickly put it into my skincare rotation. Send me an oil, any facial oil, and I’ll find space for it. I love my facial oils, if you did not already know! 😀

I’m glad TNS Skinlab took a chance on me, because I don’t think I’d have discovered this on my own. I haven’t had much luck with Trilogy skincare over the years, and their Rosehip oil actually used to break me out. So, it’s one of those brands I don’t pay a lot of attention to.

But you know what? I’m going to tell you right here, right now. Don’t miss your chance to try this Trilogy No. 15 Limited Edition Beauty Oil, because it is a wonderful wonderful oil, and I love it to bits! 😀
