Day 16 : Monave Mineral lipgloss in a pot – Silk Garnet

Day 16 of the 30 lipsticks in 30 days project features a mineral lip product I own. Its a lipgloss by Monave that comes in a pot but its so pigmented, I prefer to call it a lipstick instead.

This is my first and only mineral lip product so I have nothing to compare it with. Although it says its a lipgloss, its so pigmented it might very well be a lipstick.

The colour Silk Garnet is a berry pink colour – more berry than pink. It goes on my lips pretty much my lips but better, adding colour and some shine. It is very pigmented and stays a long time so I hardly ever have to touch up.

That’s good, but that is also bad because how on earth am I ever going to finish this? It comes in a tub and I use a lip brush to apply it.

Everyone’s talking about Mineral Makeup. But what is it really? Does anyone know?

Well, I flexed my fingers and hit up Google and the information online about Mineral Makeup is simply overwhelming!

What is Mineral Makeup?

In a nutshell, Mineral Makeup is makeup created from the most basic of natural ingredients mined and ground from the earth with no perfumes, talc, alcohol, dyes, mineral oil or preservatives. The most popular mineral makeup item is mineral foundation.

The main ingredients in mineral makeup is are minerals such as mica, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide. A “pure” formulation of mineral makeup will not contain any talc or fragrance or additives.

Can Mineral Makeup be used in place of sunscreen?

It is the use of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide that has given mineral makeup the reputation for being able to protect the skin from the sun. Can it really? Is there enough sun blocking product in the thin layer of mineral foundation we apply on our skin to protect the skin from the aging effects of the sun?

To a degree, I suppose there is some sun-blocking properties in mineral makeup, but I personally would not put all my trust in using only mineral foundation as a sun block or sunscreen and will also invest in using proper sun screen prior to applying makeup.

Review: Makeup: Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze Infinite Rose

The Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze is part of Revlon’s Mineral makeup collection. It comes together with the Revlon Colorstay Mineral foundation, Mineral blush and Mineral eyeshadow. I’ve tried mineral makeup for all parts of the face before, but never a mineral based lipgloss, so the Revlon Mineral Lipglaze is my first.

The colour I have is Infinite Rose, which is a shimmery cool toned rose-berry shade. I thought it looked a little dark in the tube, but it actually applies quite nicely. I am familiar with Revlon’s lipglosses, having been a great supporter of their Superlustrous Lipglosses for a long while. I like how they are so glossy yet not sticky since by now most of the regular readers will know that I’m not one for sticky lip glosses.

So, I had a lot to expect from the Revlon Mineral lipgloss and I was pleasantly surprised.

The colour of the lipgloss is pigmented. So pigmented that I’d safely say its close to a liquid lipstick more than a gloss. The swatch on the back of my hand is the mineral lipglaze swiped just once. Yep, its THAT opaque and pigmented!

Loving Minerals – Supplying Mineral Makeup in Malaysia

Mineral Makeup is all the rage. Just look at L’oreal and Revlon and even The Body Shop jumping on the Mineral Foundation bandwagon. When big companies start getting onto something, you know it’s a big market! I previously lamented that part of the reason I was less enamoured with mineral makeup was because of its inaccessibility. This is because many mineral makeup companies are USA based and shipping time plus the possibility of packages going missing (It happened to me) is a huge deterrant.

However, local online store LovingMinerals.com will change all that. LovingMinerals.com is based in Malaysia and they presently stock mineral makeup from Lumiere Mineral Cosmetics and some of the more popular kabuki brushes from Everyday Minerals.

From my previous experience, Lumiere Cosmetics’ Mineral makeup was the only brand that did not cause me to break out and which had the best colour match. Also, the Lumiere Mini Kabuki brush is a delight! They don’t stock this yet, but I hope they do. As for brushes, Everyday Minerals’ brushes get the thumbs up from many users, especially the flat top brush (RM38). No excuse for me not to try it now!

LovingMinerals.com has just opened its virtual doors last week, and they are offering some special offers on Lumiere Cosmetics products up until 31 October 2008. If you are new to mineral makeup, a good kit to start with will be the Lumiere Sample Kit (RM30). You will get 3 sample jars of foundation, 1 sample jar of blush or radiance powder and 1 sample jar of finishing powder. My recommendation for the finishing powder is to get the Sand Silk Powder. It is super awesome at controlling oil. Whilst it might say “sample” it is a pretty substantial amount of powder that you get which will last you quite a while. It’s the best way to know if mineral makeup will work for you or not.

LovingMinerals.com currently ships to Malaysia and Singapore. I think it is awesome because shipping from the USA takes up to 2 weeks and I had a package go missing from Lumiere before. They refunded my money but the hassle and waiting time was not fun.Continue Reading
