Clothes

Lace me up!

September 17, 2007 Paris B 2 Comments

Styleweek Lace 8-9 copy

Lace gives the perception of luxury and adds an old-fashioned air to clothes in particular. Good hand made lace can be very expensive but is oh so exquisite. Failing that, machine-made lace will do too.

I love lace on evening gowns or for some everyday wear. A lace camisole under a serious work suit adds a flirty twist to an otherwise masculine looking outfit. Being a woman in a corporate environment does not mean you have to dress like the men! So, I’m on the lookout for some nice lace tops or skirts. As I said before, they are hard to come by.

Most of the time, lace is the domain of the bedroom. Just go to the lingerie department and you’ll know what I mean. Sheer lace teddies and nightgowns dominate as to flirty sexy lace bras. But it doesn’t have to all be naughty.

As Life & Style shows, if you can’t wear lace on clothes, then wear them on other accessories. A lace headband, or lace clutch or even lace on the shoes. I’ve seen a lace covered shoe once. It looked luxurious but I wasn’t sure just how practical it was, especially for someone like me who tends to scratch my leather shoes a lot. The lace would probably tear and I’d have an mangy looking pair of shoes in no time at all. However, I can do the clutch. I’ve been hunting high and low for a clutch – yes still!

Introducing Nabi clothing

July 4, 2007 Paris B Leave a Comment

Its Summer and that means that pretty dresses are the order of the day. I flipped through some magazines in the last two days and apparently, sun dresses are the in thing. Honestly, a pretty dress does wonders for the ego and it being summer and all, its license to bare a little skin.

I loved the dresses found at Nabi. Nabi is a South Korean fashion label and Nabi actually means Me-Free in Korean. The designs are very original and creative and so feminine. I loved their dresses the most. They are so pretty!

One of my favourite from the site is this Chiffon Kimono dress. I like the little ethnic design around the fringe of the skirt and the colours look amazing. The overlay is a sheer chiffon with the design printed on, and has classic kimono sleeves and a wide belted waist. It retails for $58 which seems pretty affordable. It only comes in one size though Korean size 44-55. According to the size chart that is an international XS-S and a USA size 0-4. Ouch! Very small sizing! Koreans must be tiny!

There’s a sale on at the moment so the prices of some Nabi items are slashed. The website that sells it will ship internationally for free if you buy above $200 but otherwise, the shipping will cost about $12. Not too expensive, because they ship by express courier service so you get your package in about 3 days. Useful for the times you want something different urgently for a function, and don’t want to be caught wearing something found here.

JSIS young fashion from Korea

July 1, 2007 Paris B 1 Comment

K-Drama and K-Pop seems to have taken over from J-drama and J-pop. K being Korean and J being Japanese. In fact, Korea seems to be the new force in Asia to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry. How do you explain a pop sensation like Rain? I mean a name like Rain? Anyway, I digress. The point of it all is the fashion scene of Korea as depicted in the dramas screened on tv.

From what I see, there is much similarity between the Japanese and Korean fashion, especially among the young. The young people are all about being funky and individual. And if you like Korean fashion, take a look at JSIS a brand by two brothers. Their clothes are young and trendy. There is a fun feel to it and I can just see the young here wanting to snap it all up.

Its pricey though. Dresses average about $58 and T-shirts are between $15 to $35. They are cute, I can’t deny that. However, I may be a tad too old for most of the designs. Heh…

The shipping from the site is free above $200 and if you don’t hit that amount, then there’s shipping charges. They send by express courier service though, and it comes in a nice looking box which kind of justifies the shipping costs.
