Review: Vichy Normaderm Refine Total Pore Resurfacing Essence

July 16, 2009 Paris B 28 Comments

There are few skincare products I truly like within a short period of trying them out. Usually, I’m just sceptical. Unusually, the new Vichy Normaderm Pore Resurfacing Essence is an exception. 3 days into using it, and I was in love with it. After more than 2 weeks, its now a staple.

Vichy Refine Pore Resurfacing Essence

A new addition to the Vichy Normaderm line, the Pore Resurfacing Essence is an essence you apply after cleanser and toner and before moisturizer to help refine your skin and make your skin look smoother with smaller pores.

Vichy Pore Resurfacing Essence makes a lovely makeup primer

What it does for me is not only keep my skin smooth and matte and oil free all day, but also acts as a lovely makeup primer! Yes my dears, I’m ditching my makeup primers for this lovely little gem of a product  🙂

Used in the day, I apply it before moisturizer and sunscreen. Its a gel texture serum that spreads easily and mattifys the skin almost immediately. Lovely if you have oily skin or combination skin. I sometimes get a tad oily as the day wears on but with this essence, I’m relatively oil free and whatever foundation I use sticks better to my skin and looks and feels smoother. Reminds me a lot of Estee Lauder’s Idealist when I was using it a long while back.

Review: Etude House BB Magic Cream

October 16, 2008 Paris B 40 Comments

I did not know if I should categorize BB Creams (Blemish Balm Creams) under skincare or makeup so I left the category out from the title. Some people say that BB Creams are like skincare and so good for their skin. Others treat BB Creams as makeup. I would categorize it as makeup actually because it acts like a foundation and makeup base. And because its makeup, I don’t need a 1 month test period before I review! 🙂

Here’s my review on the Etude House BB Magic Cream which is the first BB Cream I’ve ever tried and the first Etude House product I’ve tried. So do bear in mind that I cannot compare this with any other brand of BB Cream in the market.

I found the packaging very cute and very strange. It comes in a soft plastic tube like a moisturizer or facial wash, but instead of being capped, it is capped off with a pump. In most cases, tubes don’t come with pumps and this is the first time I’ve seen anything like this.

To be honest, I detest the pump. The idea behind the pump is probably to make it easy to dispense the lotion. However, I had a problem with it because after a few times of working properly, it will get “stuck” and not pump anything out. And then when it does, it sprays the BB Cream all over the place, even spattering on my clothes and marking/staining it sometimes. I’ve had to change 3 times so far before leaving the house and I’m NOT amused! So, get rid of the pump and I’ll be a happy camper. I have however, worked out by now thatif you hold and store the tube standing up i.e. tube at the bottom, pump at the top, it doesn’t spatter as badly. Still, I detest the pump 😛

The BB Cream I got was in Refreshing which is a light lotion that is recommended for normal-oily skins. The sales assistant told me it worked as a makeup base and foundation so you just have to apply it after moisturizer. Take note that this is NOT an all in one moisturiser, foundation product. I checked the ingredient list and it listed Titanium Dioxide as one of the ingredients but it does not say that this product has SPF (There is a separate BB Cream with SPF). I’m not sure why.

Review: Makeup: Guerlain Meteorites Perles Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer – Summer 2008

June 12, 2008 Paris B 14 Comments

Last week, I wrote about Guerlain’s Summer 2008 collection which featured the signature Guerlain Meteorites in various forms. This is the review on the Summer 2008 Guerlain Meteorites Perles Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer courtesy of Guerlain.

Guerlain seems to have changed the packaging of their products. Previously, Guerlain products came in a cream coloured box with gold and brown accents. The new stuff Guerlain has been putting out now comes in a sleek glossy black box with gold writing. I like it! It looks more up to date and classy, and definitely less stuffy than the old packaging.

The Guerlain Meteorites Perles light diffusing primer comes in a heavy glass bottle with a black shiny metal cover. It looks and feels very luxurious. The size is 100ml which is about that of a bottle of eau de toilette. In fact, the shape of the bottle reminds me a little of Estee Lauder’s Beautiful fragrance. Continue Reading
