Perfecting the Lunasol Perfect Step of Foundation Application : Tips by Lunasol Makeup Artist Yumi Takada

February 8, 2013 Paris B 35 Comments

lunasol perfect steps makeup

Do you find putting on your makeup a daily chore? Or are you happy to treat it as a ritual, as you would putting on your skincare, for example?

I pondered on this question during a short workshop with Ms. Yumi Takada, the Senior Makeup Artist and Trend Analyst from Japanese brand, Lunasol, who was here to demonstrate the Perfect Step of makeup application, practised by Lunasol. I’d been indoctrinated into this Perfect Step from a while back, when I used to research and play around with Lunasol makeup so I must admit, I wasn’t listening as closely as I should 😛 I will however let videos do the talking because experience tells me that you learn best through watching, and not from merely reading.

I will also only focus on base makeup (or foundation) because as I’ve recently learnt, after chopping off most of my hair, a good base trumps it all. When you have a good base, you only need a mere hint of colour and shade to define your features. This is something I’ve had to learn myself, because I used to be all about bright colours. But ever since I discovered how important and flattering good base makeup can be, I’ve scaled back on colour, preferring to look “natural”.

Here are some tips for a good base makeup that I picked up, that I hope you too will find useful 😀

New! Clinique Pore Refining Solutions – To refine pores and control oil

August 10, 2012 Paris B 29 Comments

Clinique had a pore minimizing range before – I distinctly remember it because many years ago, I once used a Clinique pore minimizing serum. Clinique has now upgraded their range to Pore Refining Solutions. Pores you see, can’t really be minimized, but they can be made to appear refined 🙂

clinique pore refining solutions products

There are 3 products in the Pore Refining Solutions range – Stay-matte Hydrator, Correcting Serum and Instant Perfector. The ingredients have been upgraded, not only the name and it is now supposed to be even more effective than it was before. Here’s a quick run down on each of the products in the range and what they do.

RMK Makeup Base and Liquid Foundation have all your bases well covered

August 8, 2012 Paris B 69 Comments

I used to be very active on a makeup forum back before I started blogging, and at the time the “star foundation” everyone was raving over worldwide, was the RMK cream foundation. Any request for a foundation rec would inevitably throw up RMK. Yet I was also warned repeatedly that the cream foundation might be a little heavy for our tropical weather so I was always a little afraid to try it. Why did no one then ever tell me there was a lighter liquid foundation option?! 😛

Well let me tell you now, that there is a liquid foundation and there is a makeup base and they are both excellent products.

rmk liquid foundation and base

The products themselves are superb and I don’t hand out superlatives like this lightly. Texture is featherlight on skin, colour match is very impressive, and it is just an all round winner.

I will however grouse about the packaging, as we’ll see. Yeah, it would appear that nothing is really perfect. Sigh…

Affordably priced gem! The Revlon Photoready Primer will leave you primed and photo ready

July 25, 2012 Paris B 37 Comments

Revlon launched a couple of new items a while ago that garnered some interest. The first was a mousse style foundation and the second was a primer. I was more interested in the primer than I was in the foundation, primarily because I wasn’t too taken in by the concept of the latter. Still, I will share my thoughts on it later.

revlon photoready primer

I thought I’d tell you first about the primer because a) I like it and b) I realised I’d previewed it about 2 months ago without follow up 😛 The Revlon Photoready Primers come in 2 types – 001 Photoready Perfecting Primer and 002 Photoready Color Correcting Primer. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the Revlon Photoready Color Correcting Primer in 002 because its simple – its the one I have 😀 This one is a pale lilac pink in the bottle and is meant to act both as a primer, filling up lines and pores to give you a smooth finish for your foundation to go on; and to provide a tint of colour to correct and brighten uneven skintone.

Whilst I think this primer does an ace job at acting as a primer, I am a little less impressed by its colour correcting claims.
