Loose Powder Challenge: T.LeClerc Banane vs Make Up For Ever Super Matte

July 25, 2008 Paris B 18 Comments

I’ve been toying with a new category for a while now – a “Challenge” category where I pit one brand against another. The idea behind this is to see how a favourite or not so favourite product fares against similar products from different brands, and whether there are dupes or similarities to be found between them. The idea is not to find the “best product” but more to see how X performs against Y. They may be both of high end brands or both of low end brands or in the cases of dupes, one high and one low end.

I can only base my “challenges” on products which I already own and use so if I’m not comparing it with a product you want me to, or expect, the simple answer may be that I don’t have it! Challenges will be evaluated on 3 criteria – Packaging, Price and Performance.

I’ll start my Challenge series with Loose Powder:-

Review: Makeup: Make Up For Ever Super Matte Loose Powder Translucent

March 10, 2008 Paris B 20 Comments

I mentioned to Jojoba in a comment below that although many Make Up For Ever face products don’t seem to work well for me, there is one that does. It is the Make Up For Ever Super Matte loose powder in Translucent.

I raved away about T. LeClerc’s loose powder in a previous review and yes its awesome, but my favorite loose powder of them all is the MUFE Super Matte Loose Powder.

I use No. 12 which is Translucent Natural. It should be able to suit most skin tones since its supposed to be translucent. The colour is a natural light beige in the pot.

What I like about this loose powder is its texture. It is very light and very finely milled. It goes on smoothly and truly lives up to its name – super matte. It really keeps your skin feeling matte and soft. Continue Reading

Review: Makeup: T. LeClerc Loose Powder in Banane

March 6, 2008 Paris B 10 Comments

I had Ms. Blacklace leave a comment on my post about L’oreal True Match liquid Foundation about T.LeClerc loose powder. It reminded me that I had not yet reviewed the T. leClerc loose powder I own in the shade Banane.

Banane is a yellow based powder. It looks very yellow in real life, which makes you think that it will just make you look bright yellow all over if you use it on your face. Wrong. What it does is counteract redness. So, dusting a layer of Banane over your face will help reduce any redness and even out your color.

T. LeClerc’s loose powder is made from rice starch powder and helps to absorb oil and control the oil production throughout the day. So, using the loose powder will help keep your complexion looking matte and smooth from morning to evening. I find that in our hot tropical weatherContinue Reading

Review: Makeup: Canmake Micro Loose Powder

February 25, 2008 Paris B 1 Comment

I saw these cute little tubs of loose powder at the Canmake counter in Sasa and I just had to try it. For the uninitiated, Canmake is a range of cheap makeup from Japan that is super cute and in some cases, have pretty decent quality.

The Micro Loose powder comes in a little plastic tub with a cute puff and there are 4 colors:

  • 001 – Baby Beige – Semi matte texture with beige/translucent colour
  • 002 – Fairly Pearl – beige with shimmer
  • 003 – Venus Shiny – Light gold with shimmer
  • 004 – Terracotta Bronze – bronze with shimmer

Other than 001, the other 3 colours have shimmer in them which is quite overpowering if you are planning to use it on your face. I dabbed the powder on the back of my hand, and even then, found it way too shimmery for use on the face. However, if you have a party to go to and want some cheap shimmer powder that you can use all over your face and body, this might be a good option without breaking your bank. It retails for RM36.90 or thereabouts.
