StrawberryNET.com has an extra special additional 10% off their Christmas sets so I knew it was a good time to pick up something I’d been eyeing for a while. 2 somethings actually 😛

One is the Bliss Blood Orange body wash set and the other is the YSL Love Collection compact powder. The latter is simply stunning! This YSL Love Collection compact powder was limited edition from a couple of years back.

Doesn’t it look so cute? You are supposed to be able to use it all over as a face brightener or as compact powder. However, I tested this the day after I got it (yes I defiled it!) and the pink heart makes such a gorgeous pink blush! Its light and sheer and so pretty! Sigh… 🙂

As a compact powder, its hard to manage to find a brush small enough to just pick up the powder surrounding the blush (although a sponge puff comes with it), but if you use a large fluffy brush and a light hand, and pick up the pink and powder and apply all over, there are some skin brightening qualities. The powder is super fine and light and makes my skin feel so nice! Do let me know if you want a more indepth review on this one because its not available in stores anymore although you can still find it online. RRP was US$60 but I got it for US$32 on StrawberryNET.com (sale).

The other item I picked up is the Bliss Blood Orange and White Pepper bath set.

MWS Christmas Gift Guide & Best of 2009 : Build on a good foundation

You may not have perfect skin – few of us do and those who do are the lucky few! So, we fake it with concealer and foundation! There aren’t many I discovered in 2009 but those that worked, worked!

I finally found 2 liquid foundation that worked well for me. I never thought I’d ever extol the virtues of liquid foundation but now I will! The 2 I discovered in 2009 and are keeping as staples are the Lancome Maquiliquide UV Infinite and Diorskin Nude natural glow hydrating foundation. Beautiful textures and keeps skin looking beautiful too!

Clarins Nude Inspiration Fall 2009 – Quick Thoughts and Views

Clarins launched their Nude Inspiration Fall/Winter 2009 makeup collection last week and I was down there to check it out. Taking a departure from other French brands e.g. Dior and Lancome who are going strong for Fall, Clarins decided to take a step back and go nude or neutral. Its quite surprising but not unusual. I believe Bobbi Brown too is taking this route with their Nude Eye Palette of neutral shades for the eyes.

I have some quick thoughts on the collection including my personal favourite product of the lot. You might have already picked it up from a previous post but if you haven’t then read on! 😀

Clarins Color Quartet for the Eyes – #110 Nude (RM145)

For Fall 2009 Clarins has a new permanent eyeshadow quartet in 4 neutral colours. If you don’t have a neutral palette, give this one a try. The colours are soft to the touch and apply smoothly. I prefer this one over Bobbi Brown’s Nude Palette simply because of texture. I think its better. The colour tone is a little warm – just a touch. If you already have too many of the similar colours, you wont’ miss anything by skipping this.

Review: Dior Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Fresh Powder Makeup Loose Powder SPF10

I love it when 1 product works for more than 1 use. The new Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Fresh Powder Makeup loose powder is one such product.

What it is is a very light loose powder. What it can also function as is a loose powder foundation.The secret lies in the brush you use to apply this.

The Diorskin Nude loose powder is slightly pigmented so you must find a proper colour match. There is no translucent shade because I was told it can function as powder foundation also, as it is part of Dior’s first mineral makeup line. What does this make you think of? Mineral foundation!

The application technique too is similar to that of mineral foundation. You tap a tiny bit of loose powder into the cap and swirl your brush in it, then dust over your face. For this purpose, Dior came up with a special flat top dense brush. Its very lovely being both dense yet soft on the skin.

But both you and I know that we can just as easily use the Everyday Minerals Flat Top brush which works as beautifully at a fraction of the price! Shh… don’t tell Dior I said that 😉 I would however love to have the Dior brush for my powder blush – my Anna Sui flat top (discontinued) is looking a bit worn 🙁

I do like this loose powder. Dior says that the loose powder contains active mineralized water and will not dry out your skin but will instead help give your skin a radiant fresh glow like that of nude skin. I don’t know about the mineralized water and all that, but what I do know, is that its nice on the skin.

I dust it on as I do normal loose powder after liquid foundation. It helps it set my makeup and stays on the whole day. Throughout the day, my face feels smooth and dewy, and if you touch it, it feels light and powdery but does not look thick, fake and cakey. I don’t know if that made any sense 😛 If I want a lighter look for the day, I use a fluffy powder brush to apply. If I’m doing makeup to look more polished and have more coverage, I use my flat top brush or kabuki brush which adds more coverage. I’ll show you the difference when I wear it and when I don’t below.
