Loose Powder

My relationship status with La Mer Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation : It’s complicated

November 21, 2016 Paris B 14 Comments

I’d received so many queries about the La Mer Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation over on Instagram, that I figured it was time I sit down and actually write about it. I haven’t been able to give very straight one word “I like it” or “I hate it” answers, because the truth is, it’s complicated.

This isn’t the first time La Mer has had a foundation. They had a whole base makeup range a while back (their concealer and loose powder came highly recommended to me then) but in recent years, they discontinued the range, pulled back, retreated, reformulated, and they have now relaunched the Skincolor de La Mer range.

The Skincolor de La Mer range consists of The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation, The Powder, The Concealer, The Reparative Skin Tint (which you have seen before) and The Foundation Brush. I’d like to focus here on the Soft Fluid foundation, although I’ll give my 2 cents about The Powder as well (you don’t want to miss that! 😉 ).

Going dotty over the Dior Milky Dots Summer 2016 Collection which revealed 1 surprise hit

May 18, 2016 Paris B 15 Comments

When Dior first announced their adorably named Dior Milky Dots Summer 2016 collection, I perked up a little. I haven’t been very kind to Dior lately, and I was previously quite a Dior girl. So, I wanted to see how cute a collection could be with an eyeshadow palette named the 5 Couleurs Polka Dots palette. Polka dots! You can’t look at polka dots and not feel happy, right?

So, imagine my consternation when nothing featured polka dots.

There I was, all ready to coo over a polka dotted eyeshadow palette or maybe even a blush… only to have my air let out like a deflating balloon. Sigh… Dior, why do you persist to disappoint me?! 🙁

That said, it wasn’t all doom and gloom. I was gifted with 3 items from the Dior Milky Dots collection to show you, and one of them turned out to be quite a hit with me. I’ll let you pause and take a guess before you head on to find out my views on the 3 items are 🙂

Contemplating if the Real Techniques Bold Metals brushes are Essentials or just hype

February 15, 2016 Paris B 12 Comments

Real Techniques makeup brushes are among the most popular brushes among beauty buffs, primarily because they are affordable and more importantly, function very well. While I don’t own nor use any of their eye brushes, I do enjoy using their face brushes for blush and foundation. They’re soft and dense and do a good job, while being fairly easy on the pocket.

I suppose it was a matter of time before a new luxe line appeared. I remember the buzz when the new Real Techniques Bold Metals range of brushes was launched. They were pretty to look at, but much to everyone’s surprise, not light on the pocket. That resulted in a rather polarised opinion on these brushes.

While some loved them, and how pretty they looked, others felt that they weren’t up to mark and were too expensive.

I was curious about them for a while, but as with everything from Real Techniques, I had to wait until they were available on iHerb before I would buy, as I’ve found them to be more affordable than buying locally. I believe I might have gotten them when iHerb has their regular discounts on beauty products, but I can’t remember for sure, because it was a while ago. I do remember that I got free shipping by regular post, which takes up to a month to arrive to me in Kuala Lumpur from the USA, but I’m usually not fussed because regular airmail post usually escapes Customs’ scrutiny, unlike the faster DHL option, and that is more important to me. Besides, I was in no hurry. They were brushes – I have drawers full of brushes! LOL 😛

I happened to come across the Real Techniques Bold Metals Essentials collection, which is a set of 3 brushes – #103 Angled Powder brush, #200 Oval Shadow brush and #300 Tapered Blush brush. I thought it would be a good way to test out the brushes from this collection, and to see if they were worth spending money on. So, are they? 😀

Game, Set and Match to the Nars Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder

March 31, 2014 Paris B 46 Comments

I don’t always ‘set’ my makeup or foundations in a true sense on a daily basis. On most days, I finish off with the Guerlain Meteorites illuminating powders that for me act somewhat as a ‘setting powder’ but on days when I really want my makeup to last for as long as it possibly can, I turn to this white powder that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with since the day it came home with me from the NARS store.

nars light reflecting loose setting powder

This NARS Light Reflecting Loose Powder was the very first item I bought from our NARS store here at Pavilion KL and it was after reading a lot of raves for this product. I couldn’t quite decide between the loose or pressed versions but as I personally prefer using loose powder to pressed, this is what I opted for.

What this very popular white powder is supposed to do, is set foundation for a smooth finish while softening the appearance of any lines on your face. It looks a scary white in the pot, but applies translucent, without any shimmer or glitter on the skin.

But what I love so much about this is just how impressive my makeup looks after a whole day!
