Tips: The magic of Concealer and How to apply concealer

June 6, 2008 Paris B 31 Comments

I discovered concealer by accident.

Someone had sent me a pan of Benefit Boi-ing Concealer but at the time, I was not so familiar with makeup, and had no idea what a Boi-ing was. So, I tossed it in my drawer and forgot about it, until one day when I came across it again. A quick Google search told me it was a concealer by Benefit Cosmetics and another quick Google search taught me how to apply concealer.

Voila! With concealer, my eye circles from late nights had magically disappeared! I looked fresh, bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to tackle yet another daunting work day! 🙂 Next, a dab on concealer on any blemishes or uneven pigmentation and suddenly, flawless skin!

Now, concealer is indispensable for me. Let me show you the difference having concealer on makes to the under eye area. Be warned, scary untouched up pictures ahead! Continue Reading

How to look good even when you had a bad night?

May 22, 2008 Paris B 14 Comments

So you had a bad night. You wake up in the morning and see dark rings under your bleary eyes, and blotchy skin. What do you do?

Well, here’s where makeup can help you.

The key here is to keep things natural. From personal experience, I’ve found that on days when I wake up looking and feeling terrible, light natural makeup is best.

The key items you’ll need are:-

  • Concealer
  • Foundation
  • Highlighter
  • A light or nude colored eyeshadow
  • Eyeliner
  • Mascara
  • Light peach or pink blush

And here’s how I put it all together.

Review: Makeup: Make Up For Ever Lift Concealer

February 28, 2008 Paris B 7 Comments

make up for ever lift concealer

After being rather frustrated with the texture of Make Up Store’s wand concealer, I decided to forsake it and got myself a tube of Make Up For Ever Lift Concealer.

What I like about Make Up For Ever’s (MUFE) Lift Concealer is that it comes in a tube form. I feel its more hygienic as it is a product I use everyday. I use my fingers to apply this concealer although you can also use a brush.

The texture is more runny that that of Make Up Store and I find that the texture is lighter and more liquid. This however translates into light to medium coverage for very dark circles. On days when I have a bad night, it doesn’t quite cover the dark circles. However, on other days, it does it job quite well.

According to the product description on the website:

Lift Concealer hides bags and slight unevenness in skin color in a natural way. Its formula, with a tensine base, improves skin tone and smoothes the lines around the eyes.

It does all it says and is further supposed to have a slight illuminating effect. However, I don’t find this illuminating effect a very prominent feature. I have read about people finding that the concealer sinks into the fine lines around their eyes. However, as I don’t really have that problem at this point in time I am unable to verify it.

I use No. 3 which is a medium tone and I think most people of medium-fair skintone should be able to take this colour. It matches my skintone and looks natural on. After applying on the concealer, I then dust on some loose powder or a light swipe of powder foundation and I’m good to go.

I do find it fades throughout the day which is a pity. Apparently, you can even apply this on top of foundation, like Full Cover, and I think it would help with more coverage. I was told by the sales assistant that you can apply it along the sides of your nose or even on your cheekbones before foundation as it has an illuminating effect. However, I’ll stick to using it as a concealer for the under eye area.

A 15ml tube retails for RM70 and is available at Make Up For Ever counters which are presently found at U Parkson (1 Utama New Wing) and KLCC (Centre Court by British India). I think the price is fair as a little bit of product goes a very long way, and I can see one tube lasting a long long time as I only use it for my under eye area. I use Full Cover for all other blemishes and I’m still finishing up my first tube after nearly a year! As it fades I’m not likely to repurchase this concealer so its back to the drawing board for me!

Pros: Reasonable price, hygienic packaging, good coverage
Cons: Fades throughout the day, Coverage can be a little thin

Stay beautiful,

Review: Makeup: Make Up Store Wand Concealer

February 12, 2008 Paris B 3 Comments

I wrote previously about discovering that the Swedish Make Up Store was open in The Gardens at Midvalley. While I was there, I realised that it was an opportune time to pick up a concealer since my old faithful, the L’oreal Touche Magique concealer pen has been discontinued.

makeup store concealerThe choices for concealer at the Make Up Store are really quite mind-boggling, ranging from blemish concealers to concealers in palettes that you can mix and match for your needs. However, I only wanted a concealer for the undereye area, and so I was recommended the Make Up Store Wand Concealer in Medium. Medium is a shade that should suit most fair to medium fair skin tones.

As the name of the product suggests, this is a concealer that comes in a tube with a wand applicator. It brings to mind a lip gloss and applies the same way.Continue Reading

It’s an unusual Chinese New Year this year. It’s the first time since I left home that I did not make an early morning drive home for CNY for the reunion dinner (I always do so to beat traffic). It’s the first time I’m spending CNY in KL. It’s the first time my hair is looking such a mess for CNY 😂
Regardless, we do this not for ourselves but for others so we can have more joyful CNY celebrations to come.
Wishing all of you a Happy, healthy Chinese New Year filled with Ox-picious tidings 🧧 Gong Xi Fa Cai and enjoy the festive break! ❤️
