Secret tools for Flawless Makeup and my artistic masterpiece!

May 18, 2009 Paris B 48 Comments

Its not only the Da Vinci Code or Angels and Demons by Dan Brown that hides secrets in art. There too lies the secret of flawless makeup – step by step makeup built from a good foundation that gives a flawless finish.

Lancome Flawless Makeup

So what’s the secret to flawless makeup? Lancome’s recent “Secret to Flawless Beauty Workshop” introduced to me the Power of 4 (sounds rather like a superhero series eh? 🙂 )

  • Foundation
  • Concealer
  • Powder
  • Blush

With just these 4 products on your face you can go out looking flawless and natural – the keywords for today. Zamri Zainol, Lancome’s top makeup artist shows us how.

Foundation – match it to your skintone

Do not use foundation as a corrector. If you have yellow or pink tones, do not try to “correct” your tones using foundation. There are products that can help correct or reflect a different tone but foundation is not it. If you over correct or under correct, the results may not be what you expect and can make you look weird – think grey or orange.

You should also know what you want your foundation to do. For me, I like a sheer light natural coverage for everyday so I don’t look masky. I don’t need something heavy and all I’m looking for is evening out of skin tone. So, the Lancome Maquiliquide UV Infinite is going to be something I’ll be checking out. I’m told I can up the coverage by using the Maquicake UV Perfect 2 way foundation powder on top of it. Believe me, the coverage does increase and you will look pretty flawless but its strictly for night/evening looks. So, I’d keep that trick for night looks. This way, I can keep to a light liquid foundation for all times.

Concealer – only where its needed

The job of concealer is to conceal scars or marks so use it only where its needed and blend blend blend! I use concealer for my under eye area to lighten dark circles, and a heavier concealer to cover up pigmentation. Never underestimate the magic of concealer – you’d be surprised at how flawless your skin can look without the need of photoshop!

Should I use Peach or Yellow Concealer for undereye?

December 9, 2008 Paris B 24 Comments

I was reading Kahani’s thoughts on how she successfully used a peach coloured concealer to conceal her undereye circles and it got me thinking. Peach concealer? Then I remembered myself saying that a peachy-orange eyeshadow colour made me look more awake though I couldn’t quite put my finger on why.

So, looking online for inspiration as to why this could be so, I came across articles that said that basically, it comes down to the colour wheel. If you have ever been in art class, you should be able to relate to this wheel. Colours opposite each other on the colour wheel complement each other and even help to neutralize each other. (source)

Colour Wheel for complementary colours

So, when choosing concealers to hide dark undereye circles (not bags – you can’t ever totally hide bags) first, take a good long look at the shade of the circles on your undereye area then use this little guide:-

  • Purple tones – use a yellow toned concealer
  • Blue tones – use a peach or salmon toned concealer
  • Gray tones – use a pink toned concealer

New from Silkygirl : Liquid Foundation, Shimmer Blush and Stick Concealer

July 7, 2008 Paris B 27 Comments

I was out trawling the malls over the weekend which is something I haven’t had the time to do for a long while. I also wanted to check out something from the pharmacies when my eye was caught by some new stuff at the Silkygirl counter.

Silkygirl Perfect Cover Concealer

A new creamy stick concealer from Silkygirl. The Perfect Cover concealer comes in 2 shades – Light 01 and Medium 02. I found that Light 01 was light, but a little yellow. It was very creamy though – so creamy that it felt like it was melting! It was slightly thick and I reckon it might conceal marks and discolouration better than dark eye circles. At RM14.90 I might try it one day especially since there’s a promotional price of RM12.90 now.

Benefit Erase Paste – Some thoughts

June 9, 2008 Paris B 8 Comments

Ever since Benefit Cosmetics came out with their new Erase Pasteicon concealer I’d been wanting to try it. Is it really as good as they tout it to be?

Benefit says that it is a brightening concealer for the eyes and face. Some early reviews I’d read on it had nothing but good things to say about Erase Pasteicon and what a wonderful godsend it was as a concealer, so naturally, when I saw it being sold here in Kuala Lumpur, I leapt at the chance to test it out.

Famous last words 😅 Can’t believe how tiny he was last CNY. I could make him do whatever I wanted. Now, he’s got a mind of his own and it’s “no treats, no work!” 🤪
It’s an unusual Chinese New Year this year. It’s the first time since I left home that I did not make an early morning drive home for CNY for the reunion dinner (I always do so to beat traffic). It’s the first time I’m spending CNY in KL. It’s the first time my hair is looking such a mess for CNY 😂
Regardless, we do this not for ourselves but for others so we can have more joyful CNY celebrations to come.
Wishing all of you a Happy, healthy Chinese New Year filled with Ox-picious tidings 🧧 Gong Xi Fa Cai and enjoy the festive break! ❤️

I never appreciated hair mists but the Chanel No. 5 Hair Mist is a nice, light way to enjoy the perfume. Who says you can only spray on your hair? 😬
