How has your makeup preferences changed over the years? How I do my makeup today

March 15, 2019 Paris B 27 Comments

I started my makeup journey with one philosophy : If it’s not seen, how would people know I’m wearing makeup?

makeup preferences change

Yes, I was not terribly secure in my application nor choice of colours, but I was into sparkles and shimmer, pink blushes and blue eyeshadow, all topped off with a bold lip. I had a lot of leeway in my place of work, and they tolerated it even if I might have pulled off some strange looks back then.

It was about then also that I started paying more attention to makeup, and the different collections that were hitting the stands. This was back in the day when new collections would take about 2-3 months to arrive on our sun-drenched shores. By that time, I’d have read all the reviews from people in the UK and USA about what was good or what to avoid. Helped save me money!

But whenever a new collection popped up with a neutral or brown eyeshadow palette, and muted colours for cheeks and lips, my interest level would drop. Brown? Neutrals? What’s the point of a nude makeup look? I’d scoff.

I cannot tell you when exactly I crossed the line from wearing “bright colourful makeup” to “understated neutral makeup” but I crossed that line quite many years ago when I woke up one day and realised that I was wearing makeup not for anyone, but for myself. The lightbulb went on!

So I’m curious to know if or how your makeup preferences has changed over the years and I’ll show you quickly how I do my looks these days – very quick, very efficient 🙂

Your say: Do you use applicators included in makeup palettes and compacts?

February 13, 2019 Paris B 31 Comments

This is something that’s been bugging me for a while. I notice that new makeup items often come with an applicator. This is true, whether it comes from the pharmacy, or if it is a department store or luxury brand.

I open a compact holding a powder blush, and out will fall a little, scratchy cheek brush.

Or I open an eyeshadow palette, and out drops sponge-tipped applicators or random, skinny dual-ended little brushes.

makeup applicators

More than once, I’d have to scramble around the floor picking up these little projectiles that fly out of my makeup compacts, much to my consternation.

So my question for you today is this – Do you use the applicators included with makeup? Are they good for anything?

Le Lion de Chanel invites you for a roaring grand time in the Chanel Collection Libre 2018 Maximalisme de Chanel

October 22, 2018 Paris B 23 Comments

Yes I know it’s just October, and yes, I know that Christmas is about 2 months away, and yes, I moan each year about how much earlier Christmas collections become available (and sell out!) every year. But if you can’t beat them, I guess you have to join them! So if you don’t want to miss this exclusive Chanel Collection Libre 2018 Maximalisme de Chanel collection, it’s time to hotfoot it down to your nearest Chanel beauty boutique!

While I am jaded and roll my eyes at the repetitive colours that appear in the Christmas (aka the more politically correct Holiday) collections, I confess to secretly keeping an eye out for Chanel’s this year. The reason was simple – I was intrigued by le Lion de Chanel! 😀

Why the lion head you might be wondering. Apparently, the lion is Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel’s favourite icon, and Lucia Pica picked it to represent the grandeur and intensity of the season. Here is a quote from Lucia Pica I wanted to share.

“The woman who wears MAXIMALISME DE CHANEL doesn’t hide, she loves being looked at,” Lucia Pica says. “She treats makeup almost like she would an accessory – an adornment that brings subtle drama to the mix without necessarily drawing attention to itself. She chooses between products to create striking oppositions.”

I say this often, but I love the refreshing vibe that Lucia Pica has brought to Chanel makeup, and how more daring and different the brand has become under her direction. Instead of a large, sprawling gold and red infested collection as infects most brands for Christmas, the Maximalisme de Chanel collection isn’t too large. I don’t have all the pieces, but what I have is representative of the collection, which I’ll share with you here 🙂

Reflect with the Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow if you love a bit of shimmer and shine

September 26, 2018 Paris B 2 Comments

I opened up this week’s blog posts with a hefty tome didn’t I? (Did you read it? Was my effort wasted? LOL!) Well, let’s lighten things up with, hopefully, an easier going focus subject – the new Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow.

hourglass scattered light glitter eyeshadow reflectThe conventional “rule” society sets, is that women above a certain age shouldn’t wear glitter eyeshadow. Problem is, they never really tell us what that “certain age” is, and I also don’t see why anyone should dictate my choice of eyeshadow.

The most common reason why older, or more matured women, may not want to wear glitter or shimmery eyeshadow, is because shimmer and glitter may settle into the fine lines around the eyes, and that does not look good. Age has nothing to do with it, the condition of the skin around your eyes do.

Personally, I do wear shimmer shadows still, and I’m practically over the hill! 😀 So, it was opportune therefore to give the new Hourglass Scattered Glitter Eyeshadow a go. If you love shimmer (not so much glitter) you will love these!
