Essential Oils

This facial oil from Human Nature is an Overnight Elixir that leaves skin feeling soft and supple

October 22, 2014 Paris B 16 Comments

Last week, I shared with you my 3M tips for using facial oils and how they can actually be comfortable on skin. I thought it would be a good time to share with you a fairly affordable facial oil that I think is very lovely to use, smells amazing and is a close relation to a more expensive option out there 😉

human nature overnight elixir oil

The product is the Human Nature Overnight Elixir which claims to be 100% natural and is touted as a serum but which is, in fact, a blend of oils. It promises to leave you with softer, more luminous skin, from as early as the next morning after using it, hence the name I suppose. Or if you don’t see the effects overnight, then it promises results in a week.

I naturally had to give it a go because I was already using oils in my routine anyway. The product comes in a lovely brown glass bottle with a glass dropper, and it smells wonderful!

Sleep Aids: Striving for a Quiet Night with The Body Shop Dreamy Pillow & Body Mist

October 2, 2014 Paris B 26 Comments

If you’re one of those people who literally fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow, well, I don’t like you very much right now. I have my good and bad sleeping days, and at one time, the good outnumbered the bad. So, I’d be able to just relax, read a book and fall asleep pretty soundly till the alarm goes off in the morning.

But recently, insomnia hit me hard. Eye bags and shadows have taken permanent residence under my eyes and they aren’t even bags anymore, I always say they’re now LV trunks. I’d go to bed but wake up sporadically in the middle of the night and fail to fall asleep thereafter. So I decided to try some sleep aids.

the body shop quiet night pillow spray

A friend had gifted me a sample kit of a Deep Sleep Pillow Spray by This Works but that finished quite quickly, before I had a chance to evaluate if it was working. So, I’ve ordered a full sized bottle and will be putting it through its paces once it arrives.

However, in the interim, and in desperate need for sleep intervention, I decided to try a pillow spray from The Body Shop after seeing it appear on Instagram (I love IG but it makes me want so many things! 😛 ) So, once I read that it helped, I popped out to the closest Body Shop store to pick up the Quiet Night Dreamy Pillow & Body Mist. Incidentally, I have noticed that overseas, this is known as Deep Sleep Dreamy Pillow & Body Mist. Same thing, different name. Not sure why.

Picking out A Baker’s Dozen of the Best Things of 2013 (and share yours too!)

December 27, 2013 Paris B 36 Comments

best of 2013

If you didn’t realise, the brand new year is exactly 7 days after Christmas Day and the anticipation and momentum of the festive period just keeps rolling on to that last stretch to the year. With many people usually taking time off work and just slowing down in general, it is a good time to reflect on the past year and pick out the highlights.

I don’t like doing “Best of (products)” generally. I prefer taking a more macro outlook at the year that’s past so here are my slightly different “Best of” categories, some of which of course, include beauty picks 🙂 You are most welcome to share yours too because it’s always nice to share in and take part in others’ highlights of the year.

Here we go! My Baker’s Dozen 🙂

Bathtime just got a little more relaxing with these Amphora Aromatics Aroma Salts

August 11, 2013 Paris B 14 Comments

I must confess to having a soft spot for essential oils and aromatherapy, no mater how much of a mumbo-jumbo they can be at times. As far as I’m concerned, if it smells good to me and makes me feel comfortable and happy, it works! I’m quite sure many of you feel that way.

I also confess to a secret pleasure in having a bath. A proper luxurious bath, scented with calming essential oils and sprinkled with bath salts to soften the water, and no one to disturb. Just precious me-time. What wouldn’t I give to have a tub at home! If I did, I could luxuriate with these Aroma Salts from Amphora Aromatics more often than I currently do.

amphora aromatics dead sea salts

I was sent these 2 tubs of Aroma Salts by NattaCosme, an online beauty shopping site that stocks this brand, amongst other more well-known cosmetics brands and products.

I found these intriguing despite not having a bathtub at home, because according to the blurb on the cover, these can also be used as room fresheners. Just open the cover of the tub, and allow the scent from the essential oil infused dead sea salts to waft through the room.

I was having a lot of trouble sleeping at this time and I thought something that said Goodnight Sleeptight would do the trick. With lavender and chamomile infusing the bath salts, what could go wrong? Nothing, I’d warrant.

Unfortunately, it was wrong for me. The smell of Goodnight Sleeptight is a very sharp smell that wasn’t very pleasant, nor very relaxing. It even made me feel a little nauseous so I got back up in the middle of the night to shut the tub and stick it in a corner of my cupboard. But there was a saving grace! (Thankfully!)
