Your skincare routine begins when you cleanse: 8 Cleansers I love that I buy over and over and why a good cleanser is important

selection of facial cleansers

In the past, when I first started having some interest in skincare, I came across a quote by someone that said “Spend on what you leave on and save on what you wash off” It was something of that ilk.

Essentially, the idea was that when we were balancing our budget for skincare, we should spend more on products like serums and creams, to get the best possible quality since we were leaving it on our skin; and we could save on a product like cleansers, because we’d just be washing them off.

I thought it made sense, so it was something I practised for a while. I’d buy cleansers from the pharmacy, and I’d not consider spending too much money on them. Something that was foamy and cleaned my skin was sufficient, never mind what special ingredients might be in it, because I was going to wash it off anyway.

Much later, I realised that I was wrong about this.

My 3 Pillars of an anti-aging skincare routine

November 29, 2022 Paris B 14 Comments

pillars of anti aging skincare routine

You know what I love about skincare products and information these days? It’s that there is so much information out there, and so many products and brands that help us achieve what we want for our skin.

I used to broadly focus on 2 areas of skin concerns in the past – hydration and anti-aging. While trying to find products that suited this ‘anti-aging’ category, I realised that ‘anti-aging’ is such a broad category, with so many products that claim to be it. For my purposes, I decided to narrow it down further.

These days, there are 3 specific types of products in my skincare routine that I maintain to address my ‘anti-aging’ concerns. These concerns are primarily lines, skin firmness and dull skin.

Why would it concern me if I don’t make a fuss about growing older, you ask? Well, because I’m vain – as are most people! 😛 😀

Is double-cleansing necessary in your daily skincare routine?

June 21, 2022 Paris B 6 Comments

This is an interesting question for me, because I have been doing it for so many years, that it comes automatically. But recently, I came across an influential voice on social media, and glanced at a book about skincare, both of whom proposed that you don’t need to double-cleanse.

double cleansing necessary

This, they say, is because double-cleansing dries out the skin, and this more so if you have dry skin.

I thought it was an interesting viewpoint, and while I’m no expert, I thought I’d share a quick view on this from the standpoint of someone who recognises that double-cleansing can be drying, but who still does it without much problems.

I attribute this to one thing – using the correct products.

How sustainable is your skincare routine?

April 25, 2022 Paris B 2 Comments

I realise that Earth Day has just come and gone, but I’m not approaching this from an eco/environmental angle. I have my views on that, and it isn’t something that will sit will with many, so that’s a story for another day!

Instead, my approach towards skincare and a skincare routine is this : Am I able to maintain it at this level for the long term? Is it sustainable?

how sustainable is your skincare routine

I have been thinking about this because I get a lot of questions about whether X brand is worth buying, or if Y product is a good one. Very often, this question is propelled by the consideration of the price of a product. Very little consideration is given when it’s a product that’s easy on the wallet 😉

There are lots of skincare products in the market these days, whether available off the shelf, or online. The choices are mind-boggling, and prices vary widely too, even for what appears to be similar products.

For me therefore, what is most important to consider is this – If the product works for you (and if you are in tune enough with your skin, you’d probably know if it will) are you able to afford using it over a long period of time?
