I’m not sure why I have been so tardy about sharing my thoughts on the Clarins Plant Gold Nutri-Revitalizing Oil-Emulsion. Goodness knows, I thoroughly enjoyed it! 😛
Plant Gold is a product I don’t hear or see people talk about often, which begs the question why. It is at once an oil-emulsion serum for drier skin types, or a moisturiser, if that’s all your skin can take. One pump, and you get a lovely facial oil and emulsion moisturiser in one, saving you a whole step of skincare, and delivering some plant goodness to boot!
Clarins Plant Gold Nutri-Revitalizing Oil-Emulsion
The Clarins Plant Gold is really a product that combines a facial oil, in their Blue Orchid Facial Oil, and a light emulsion. The proportion of oil and emulsion is properly dispensed each time, just like their iconic Double Serum.
While Double Serum is not a personal favourite, Plant Gold is.
The Clarins Plant Gold is formulated with 100% plant based ingredients and is free from synthetic fragrance, chemical preservatives and colouring agents.
It comes in a dual-chamber pump bottle, which draws from both chambers as you pump the product out, dispensing it perfectly into your palm each time.
As it uses the Blue Orchid Facial Oil, which is tailored for dry skin types, I posit that the Clarins Plant Gold is a product that is better formulated for someone with skin that tends to feel dry. I have dry skin, and it works beautifully for me. That said, I love Clarins facial oils in general, so I might be a little biased 😛
Lightweight oil-emulsion texture
While I find the texture of the oil-emulsion light, it might be worth noting that I have skin that tends to be dry. My skin luxuriates in facial oils, and I always have a bottle of facial oil on hand, whichever brand it might be from.
The emulsion, when pumped out, is mostly a white, lightweight emulsion, with just a drop or two worth of oil in it. To use it, just mix it together in the palm of your hand, and apply to your face, gently massaging it in on damp skin.
For my skin, I find the texture to be lightweight. If you have oilier skin, you may find it a little heavier, and may be better suited for evening use. In my case, I find that it sinks in nicely into my skin, and the oil adds a lovely lush texture to the emulsion moisturiser.
It is essentially, a one-step oil-moisturiser product, which is great if you’re not into layering product, or not into using facial oil all over.
For me, I personally find that the oil is less than what I’m used to. I am usually a lot more generous in my use of facial oils, which I like for helping skin feel supple and comfortable.
My personal preference is to use this in the day as a moisturiser, and in the evening, I sometimes use this as my facial oil step, followed by a cream. I don’t find it to be heavy this way, but again, I’m used to these sort of heavy oil textures on my skin.
Skin feels moisturised and supple
What I enjoy most about Clarins Plant Gold is how my skin feels after using it. It always feels lovely and well moisturised and supple. It’s exactly how my skin feels after using a facial oil, which I like, because this takes the guesswork out of things. My skin just drinks it up, and I swear it feels more plumped and looks more healthy.
I do however find it a little too pricey to be used as a daily moisturiser, as it comes in a 35ml bottle. That is unfortunately, very little product for a moisturiser (they usually come in 50ml sizes), and as it is automatically dispensed each time with each pump, you don’t get very many uses out of a bottle, as you cannot control how much you use each time.
You could of course, buy a bottle of the Blue Orchid Facial Oil and mix it with your regular moisturiser. It will serve a similar purpose, and a bottle of oil will last your far longer.
For me, as much as I love and enjoy using Clarins Plant Gold, it isn’t a product that is sustainable in the long run, which is a pity.
IN A NUTSHELL
Clarins Plant Gold is a 2-in-1 product, combining a facial oil and an emulsion moisturiser. It is lightweight for the most part, but if you have oily skin, you may find it sits more heavily on your skin than you’re used to. I’d recommend applying it on damp skin to help it absorb better. The combination of oil and emulsion is just right, so it blends together nicely without feeling oily. I find that it makes my skin feel moisturised, plumped and supple, and that is a lovely thing! However, the quantity is very little, so it makes it harder to use for the long term.

Have you tried Clarins Plant Gold?
I remember it was highly raved when first launched a few years ago, though it took a while for us to get it here in Malaysia. I’m glad we do have it though, because it’s a really nice product. Just a little too pricey for the quantity we get.
