Beauty hors d’oeuvres: Natura Kaiak Oceano Fragrance – cleaning up the oceans makes scents!

One of the first things I was told about Brazilian brand Natura, when I was first introduced to it, was that they are proud of their fragrance range. Apparently, Brazilians love fragrance! And being a Brazilian brand, Natura embraced that love, and developed a range of affordable fragrances that you can purchase at their store and online.

A recent addition to this extensive fragrance range is the Natura Kaiak Oceano fragrance. I broke my self-imposed isolation to go to the store to have a look, because despite advances in technology, we still can’t smell through our computer or mobile screens.

I used to be quite partial towards oceanic scents when younger. There was something about the clean, slightly salty tang of oceanic fragrances that attracted me. I was curious to see if the Natura Kaiak Oceano fragrance might remind me of that 😀

There are 2 fragrances – for men and for women. The Natura Kaiak Oceano fragrance featured here is for women, and described as a fresh floral, blending fresh marine algae and pataquiera with floral notes of jasmine and ylang ylang, grounded by musk, cedar and marine amber.

For me, I found the scent sweetly floral, with a fresh note of the sea. It was like smelling a bunch of flowers on the beach, while the salty sea air blows through your hair. If you enjoy the scent of fresh florals, then it might work for you.

I found that the scent lasted quite a long time on the skin too, for an eau de toilette. Considering I don’t go out much, and only spray it at home, it lasts pretty much all day long. It’s quite surprising, considering the affordable price!

For me personally, I’m tending towards much lighter scents these days, purely because I don’t go out much, so when I do spray any scent on, I don’t mind that it doesn’t last nor linger. I’m happy for it to last for just me! 🙂

I found the male version of the Kaiak Oceano to be a little more attractive. It has a very fresh opening like the salt spray on the skin, which quickly mellows down to a more traditional musky scent associated with men’s fragrances. I know I wouldn’t mind smelling that on my man LOL! 😀

In line with Natura’s philosophy of caring for the environment, the Natura Kaiak Oceano fragrance plays its part too.

Part of the plastic and glass used to make the fragrance bottle is made from recycled plastic and glass retrieved from the Brazilian coastline. Over 10.2 tons of recycled plastic is used in the Kaiak Oceano line so far, which is admirable! Further, Natura packaging now does not come wrapped in plastic, to avoid contributing to the problem of waste, that ultimately ends up in the oceans.

I found the swing cap cover quite a unique design as well. While the scent isn’t quite for me, I appreciate the thought and design that went into it, and because fragrance is such a personal thing, it might just be for you! 🙂
