Let me just preface this post by telling you this – I do like the Cerave Skin Renewing Night Cream.
It’s just great for the skin, and I like how my skin feels when I use it, because it’s fairly basic, yet does so much for dry skin, and skin barrier.

My only real problem with it is how joy-less it feels using it LOL! 😛
CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream
The first moisturiser I tried from CeraVe was the Facial Moisturising Lotion, which I liked, if you remember. It was fairly light, and felt gentle on skin, while providing my skin with moisture. It was very nice, and I went through 2 bottles of it quite easily.
But then I noticed a new item in their line-up. The CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream.
Having dry skin, I am always a little more partial to using a cream as opposed to a lotion, especially for the evening. It just feels better and my skin feels more comfortable.
The CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream is formulated with hydrating and rejuvenating benefits. It features a complex of biomimetic peptides, hyaluronic acid, and 3 essential ceramides that work together to lock in skin moisture and help restore the skin’s protective barrier overnight. It has a patented MVE technology which encapsulates ceramides to ensure efficient delivery within the skin’s barrier and slow release over time.
The primary difference between this night cream and the Facial Moisturising Lotion is that the Skin Renewing Night Cream contains peptides, which help strengthen skin, build collagen and elastin and firm and soothe the skin. What peptides does is help your skin look younger – and who doesn’t want that?! 😀
CeraVe says that the Skin Renewing Night Cream will help soften and renew the appearance of tired skin, provide intense hydration, restore the skin barrier and calm the skin.
I have to say that it does all that, and beautifully too!

Thick, Occlusive Cream
The texture is that of a fairly thick, occlusive cream. It doesn’t bother me very much, as I like how it feels on my skin, enveloping the skin and sealing in my serums and oils. If you have combination or oily skin, you may find it too heavy, so this is something to bear in mind.
For me, a little massage will result in it sinking in nicely, without any greasy feeling or residue. However, I am used to my skin having a heavier residue or oil, so it’s hard for me to say if you will like how it feels.
There is no fragrance, but there is a bit of a scent that smells a little musty to me. Not unpleasant. Just a smell of “unfragranced” product.
Skin feels moisturised, calmed, soft and rejuvenated
I usually use the CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream over a serum or facial oil, just to seal it all in. It does a very good job at that for me. My skin always feels lovely and moisturised and calmed overnight, which is wonderful.
As promised, my skin also looks less tired the next day, and skin feels softened with regular use. I’m almost through with my tub (just remembered to share!) and I really like how it works, as a moisturiser that does just a little more than moisturise.
I cannot say with any certainty if my skin is any more elastic, but I’m not seeing many more new fine lines, so that’s possibly attributable to this cream, or it could be attributable to just having a skincare routine LOL!
What I noticed was that my skin feels a little more calm, with fewer breakouts, even though I’m wearing my mask daily. We are still in a pandemic after all, and one cannot be too careful! But I detect less breakouts and just generally healthy skin, which is enough for me at this stage.
I think the reason I like the CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream, is because it just does the job without being overly complicated. It doesn’t promise you the moon and stars, but what it promises to do, it does well. My skin feels moisturised, comfortable, healthy and looks better.
What I can tell you is that I didn’t notice anything overly dramatic, because I have a proper daily skincare routine. Sometimes, when I fall off the bandwagon, my skin will show the ravages, and then I may detect a significant improvement with just one product. Most of the time, it’s hard to say if one product can result in a significant improvement to the skin.
What I can say however, is that if you are in the market for a decent night cream that isn’t overly complicated, isn’t too fancy, and is fairly affordable, this one ticks all the boxes. If you use retinol, this is a seriously good moisturiser to use over your retinol serums, as it just hugs your skin and protects it, delivering moisture and calming it down.
I really enjoy using it, and I have a backup tub because it just works without breaking the bank.

It’s not exciting
The drawback for me is that it isn’t terribly exciting nor does it bring much joy when using it.
The packaging feels utilitarian, almost medicinal in its plain white plastic pot. The plain white cream too feels almost boring and like a laboratory sample. It isn’t the most elegant of textures, feeling a little rough around the edges, almost.
I know our skin doesn’t need excitement, but as a person, I think I do LOL
I’m not a fan of fragrance in skincare, but it is undeniable that a little fragrance does boost the mood a little. Perhaps the texture could be made to feel a little more tactile and with a little more slip.
I’m not a product formulator, but as a consumer, I just feel that it’s just not very exciting, even if it does deliver results. If you can look past how it looks and feels, and how boring it really is to apply every night, you will enjoy its benefits. It is a pretty decent night cream.
It just doesn’t bring me much joy LOL 😛
IN A NUTSHELL
The CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream is a really nice night cream. It seals in serums and oils without leaving greasy residue, and delivers moisture to the skin. It contains peptides, which helps strengthen the skin and increase collage production, which means firmer, bouncier skin. Having used this for over a month, I can comfortably say that it is very nice. Skin is calm, less tired the next morning, moisturised, and fine lines are kept at bay (I still don’t have a bad problem, for my age – please don’t hate me! 😛 ). It’s kind on the wallet, and it does a great job. My only beef with this is that it doesn’t bring me much joy to use. I’m not sure if it’s the tactile feel of the cream or the packaging, but it’s so clinical as to be boring. I do have another tub, and I will finish it, but I also alternate it now with other creams that feel more ‘fun’ to use. I guess it’s just me LOL

Have you tried this CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream? What else do you like from the brand?
I have to say that I’ve enjoyed almost everything I’ve used from CeraVe (except for the Hydrating serum) and the Cleanser, Moisturising Cream and Vitamin C serum deserve special mention. I’m definitely keen to have a go at their retinol serums in time to come! Let me know if you’ve tried them! 🙂

Lately I tried samples of Elemis Pro-Collagen Overnight Matrix. Surprisingly its good as a night cream. Its not heavy and sort of like a thick gel texture. After applying at night my skin felt well rested and can see the healthy glow.
I am using this together wit Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Intense Reset Concentrate.
Great to hear this! I shall keep it on my to-try list!
Sounds great! this will be next on my list once I used up my current creams
At least it’s affordable too!
I LOVE cerave renwing night cream but… they need a larger size than 48 g
