I have my favourite sunscreens for the face, but if there’s one part of the body I tended to neglect (alongside others), is my arms. It wasn’t until I noticed that I was developing 2-toned arms from my morning walks, that I sought to take some action. Better late than never eh?
Not wanting to use the Avene Very High Protection Mineral Cream on my arms, I went to the pharmacy to see what I could get, and my eye fell on the Avene Very High Protection Sport Fluid. I think I was just suckered in by the words “Very High Protection” LOL! 😛
Anyway, I didn’t pay to much attention to it, whether it was a chemical or physical formula, although I lean to the latter for my face.
Avene Very High Protection Sport Fluid SPF50
The reason I bought this is because it came in a large 100ml bottle. I figured that if I was going to slather it all over my arms, I’d need more product.
The Avene Very High Protection Sport Fluid sunscreen is a broad-spectrum sunscreen, offering protection from UV-A and UV-B rays, using 4 UV filters. It is designed to be suitable for sensitive skin, and contains antioxidants (Pre-tocopheryl + Pro-taurine) for protection against oxidative stress on skin.
What sold me was also that it is sweat-resistant, very water-resistant and has a light texture. It is made for sports use, so it had to be all that! 😛
Very Lightweight, fluid texture
As the name Sport Fluid implies, the texture of the sunscreen is very lightweight and fluid. It is very liquid and spreads very easily on skin.
For the face, I use the 2-3 finger method, but for my arms, I just run the bottle down my arm, so there’s a long trail of sunscreen on each arm, before I rub it in. I guess that should give me sufficient protection 😛 I prefer to err on the side of being excessive than not using enough product.
No White Cast and Very water resistant
When first applied on skin, it will look white. But once you rub it in, it blends in without leaving a white cast. I believe the reason there is no white cast is because it does not contain physical UV blockers (usually Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide). Both these ingredients are white powder that tends to sit on skin, reflecting light and giving off a white cast on darker skin tones.
The Avene Very High Protection Sport Fluid, using chemical UV filters, does not have this problem.
I also find that it is water resistant, as they claim. This is something I notice in the shower, as the water tends to bead on my arms where I apply sunscreen. It is removed with soap, but I sometimes like to run a little facial cleansing oil over my arms, to ensure that the sunscreen is properly removed.
Seems to protect skin from UV rays
I say that it ‘seems’ to protect, as I cannot say with 100% certainty what it’s doing. It’s not that visible after all. For my face, my gauge is whether my skin turns red from sun exposure, or feels warm, or whether my dark spots and hyperpigmentation appear to be more pronounced.
On my arms, I can’t quite tell.
As far as I can tell, my arms aren’t getting any darker from when I first noticed myself getting more tanned. But ultimately, my goal is to protect my skin from premature aging and from the harmful UV rays, so I’ll just have to accept that it works, if my skin on my arms aren’t looking any more worse for wear.
I do also wear long-sleeved tops when I can these days. More protection is better than less, I guess? 😛
Can be used for face and body
If you’re in the market for a sunscreen that you can use on both face and body, you could consider this one. It is a generously sized 100ml bottle and isn’t terribly expensive, as it often goes on sale at the pharmacies or online.
It doesn’t feel sticky or greasy, and neither does it feel overly drying on my skin. I don’t use it on my face and neck, as I use the Avene Mineral Cream for that. As a ‘Sport’ sunscreen goes, I reckon you could do worse 🙂

The Avene Very High Protection Sport Fluid SPF50 is a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against UV-A and UV-B rays. It has a very light, liquid texture and absorbs easily and quickly without leaving a white cast. I don’t find it overly drying on my skin and it isn’t sticky nor greasy. If you are looking for a sunscreen that is water and sweat-resistant, this is one to consider. I find it functions well as a sunscreen to use when you’re outdoors, and you can also use it on your face if you like. I don’t as I already have another product I enjoy using better, but it is worth a look in.

Got to admit that I’m very diligent about wearing sunscreen on my face everyday, but on my arms, less so 😛 I’m much better these days though! Can’t have my arms looking older than my face can I? 😛
