Revisiting the Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisture Cream and reminding myself why I enjoyed using it so much!

February 17, 2020 Paris B 7 Comments

There are some products that are shouted about from the roof tops. There are others that quietly fly under the radar.

The Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisture Cream comes in under this second category.

While better known for their makeup, I have to say that Bobbi Brown skincare is something that is worth looking into as well. After all, you’d agree that makeup can only look good on a good base!

I’m actually on my 2nd jar, and when I rediscovered it recently, I figured I’d better tell you about it too 😀

Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisture Cream

I do have this to note about Bobbi Brown skincare products – they tend to be formulated for those with drier skin types. Some products, like the Extra Treatment Lotion works well for most skin types, but in the main, it works better for drier skin.

The Extra Repair Moisture Cream is no exception. As the name implies, it is a cream type moisturizer that moisturizes skin, and repairs skin that is feeling dry and dehydrated.

The key ingredients include shea butter, sunflower oil, glycerin and sodium hyaluronate to moisturize and hydrate skin.

But what impresses me the most about the Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisture Cream is the texture.

Rich yet Lightweight on skin

The texture of the cream is that of a lightweight cream. It has an almost whipped cream texture about it, and sits lightly on skin. It does not suffocate the skin nor make it feel heavy and uncomfortable.

Yet, it feels rich enough to sink right in and keep my skin hydrated and moisturized. My skin isn’t greasy or oily, and it actually feels very comfortable.

Those with oily or combination skin might find this a little too heavy, which is understandable. It might then be more comfortable when used in the evening.

I have drier skin, and I use this both in the day and night, and I’m comfortable with it. In the day, it sinks into my skin, keeping it hydrated and moisturized all day. The tropical heat and humidity is deceiving, for despite the oil from sweat, you can experience dehydrated and dry skin too!

In the night, I like to seal in my skincare with the Extra Repair Moisture Cream, because it seems to protect my skin well through the night, and my skin feels comfortable the next morning.

Does the Extra Repair Moisture Cream firm skin?

Bobbi Brown says that the Extra Repair Moisture Cream not only moisturizes skin, but also firms it with regular use.

To be honest, I cannot say that it does. But I can’t say that it doesn’t either. I don’t personally subscribe to claims like this. It might plump your skin up with hydration, and it may then feel firmer. But I couldn’t say if it works particularly well for this.

I’d say it’s best to just look at this as a regular moisturizer. It performs its moisturizing functions well, if you want a bit of luxury. It isn’t the be-all-end-all of moisturizers, but it does a pretty good job of it, and sometimes, that’s all there is to it!

I was reminded of this Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisture Cream recently, because I’d just finished the Trilogy Vitamin C Moisturizer, and wanted to clear my dresser of other half-finished products.

This half-used jar of Extra Repair Moisture Cream sat in my moisturizer box, and I was reminded again of how much I enjoyed using it. My skin has been going through a strange patch of odd breakouts and this cream seems to help it remain stable, without breaking me out more.

It is my personal goal to finish up my skincare whenever possible, before moving on to something new. It is the reason why I’ve slowed down on reviewing new things, and why you will see new product reviews pop up only after a few months. I feel this is the best way for me going forward 🙂

I personally enjoy using this cream a lot, and I think that it works particularly well for those with drier skin types. It is however fragranced, albeit with a rather soothing lavender scent, and in today’s world of affordable, effective skincare, it comes in rather pricey.

The Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisture Cream isn’t the world’s most groundbreaking product. It is a moisturizer, that is fairly basic as moisturizers go. But sometimes, that’s all you need to make it work 🙂

IN A NUTSHELL

The Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Moisture Cream is more suitable for those with drier skin types. It does offer heavier moisturization for those who need it more, and it can feel a little oily in the day time. However, it sits well under foundation that may otherwise be drying. The texture is light, like whipped cream, and it sinks in nicely on dry skin. You don’t need very much for it to make your skin feel comfortable, but I recommend using the 13-dot technique to ensure you use enough.

PROS:
Lightweight whipped cream texture
Moisturizes and hydrates dry skin well
Not heavy and greasy on skin
Dry skin feels comfortable after use

CONS:
Pricey

WHO WILL LIKE THIS: Anyone who wants a lightweight but rich moisturizer for dry skin

PRICE: RM398 | US$102 | £68.50 for 50ml

WHERE TO BUY: Bobbi Brown stores and counters, Sephora, LookFantastic, Selfridges

I personally feel they are an underrated brand, even in terms of makeup. But I also personally feel that sometimes, it is the price point that is makes people balk at trying too!

Yeay Bobbi Brown! I have tried only multiple samples of the Extra Moisture Cream and the little soldiers I called them, packed a bunch ! I dislike lavender scent but I didn’t sense it in the cream whilst using, which is great! I also love Bobbi Brown vitamin enriched face base. Some uses it as primer but I use it as daytime moisturizer. I love the citrusy scent, texture and effect though it’s a bit less silky than the Extra Moisture cream

Sounds interesting. Might suit my mature, dehydrated skin but oily. When you reviewed Cera Ve moisturizer, I went straight to my local pharmacy to get one. And proven great. I was wondering if this Bobbi Brown one is similar to the Cera Ve one?

    Thanks.

The Bobbi Brown one is thicker and heavier in texture. If you’re happy with Cerave, it’s find to stick with it 🙂

I believe for 1/6 th of the price, Hada Labo A.C.E moisturizer can do the same with same effects. Third bottle now! But i would also finish up my half-used products before moving to the next.

I love this moisturiser too! I’ve received a few deluxe samples of it in the past, but I should really bite the bullet and purchase a full sized version. Maybe it’s nothing to write home about, but on the other hand it is! Dependable and really pleasant to use <3

Have you thought about trying the Extra Eye Repair Cream (eye cream)? I know you aren't big on eye creams Paris but it's one of my favourites!

Well, it is quite nice for me, and I have dry skin. But then, I do also use other products like hydration serums and facial oils alongside
