For an oil cleanser that won’t strip your skin, end your day with the Skin Creamery Oil-Milk Facial Cleanser

Occasionally I stumble on a brand where I seem to love everything they put out. I love it better when they are small brands that are off the main grid because it’s always fun to discover something new. One such brand is Skin Creamery. When I tried the Skin Creamery Oil-Milk Facial Cleanser, I therefore expected to love it.

I’d been very impressed by 2 items I’d tried from this South African brand before this – their Everyday Cream and their Facial Hydrating oil. I still use them both and I’m still as impressed by them today as I was before. It’s taken me a while to expand my experience with their products, but this is certainly a case of better late than never!

The reason it’s taken me a while to get round to this, is because I have been a little averse to using oil cleansers. I learnt about double-cleansing through oil cleansers, but I also learnt from experience, that they are incredibly drying to my skin. Over the years, I have come across the odd cleansing oil or oil cleanser (slight difference) that do not dry or dehydrate your skin. They are few but they are available – and happily, I can now add another to that list! 😀

First, can I just say how much I LOVE the packaging of Skin Creamery products? They are all so elegant and minimalist and so luxurious to look at and feel. I love the use of frosted glass, because it actually gives you better grip. They also come in sturdy boxes which are works of art in their own right. Beautiful aesthetics!

Because the Skin Creamery Oil-Milk Facial Cleanser comes in a bottle with a pump, I am less averse to it being in a glass bottle. You don’t have to pick it up, and you’d be advised to keep your oil cleansers out of the shower in any event. The pump head locks, which is good if you’re transporting it, but otherwise, I wouldn’t. It isn’t friendly enough to be portable, unfortunately.

I love the texture of the Skin Creamery Oil-Milk Facial Cleanser. It pumps out a thick, slightly cream coloured, opaque texture that feels like thick oil-cream. It almost feels like a liquid oil-balm. I must warn you that if you leave it alone for a while, you may find that it separates slightly. So what I usually do before using, is pick up the bottle and give it a quick shake, to mix up the contents. Then, I pump it out into my palm.

It spreads very smoothly over the skin, and feels lush as you massage it in. It feels very emollient, and even rather thick. But very lush and very comfortable. The earthy, rose geranium scent is comforting and relaxing, and this makes a great, relaxing start to your evening skincare routine.

For those of you wondering if this emulsifies easily or if you might need to use a flannel, rest assured that it will emulsify. It emulsifies a little slower than most, so add warm water little by little, and massage over your skin, before rinsing off. Of course, using a flannel works too (and is less work). I use both methods depending on how lazy I feel, or whether I remember to bring a clean flannel into the bathroom LOL! 😀

But what is most important, is how my skin feels after using the Skin Creamery Oil-Milk Facial Cleanser. It feels wonderful! It is soft and clean, without being stripped. It does not feel squeaky clean, but you know it is clean, and it feels nourished from the rich oils it contains. You can follow up with a second cleanse. I sometimes don’t, because it just feels so lovely!

If you’re wondering if it removes makeup, I’d say yes it does – light makeup. Don’t ask me about mascara because I don’t wear mascara. But it removes everything else very gently, very easily, and very efficiently, provided you have not put your makeup on with a trowel. I have run a cotton pad of toner over my skin after, and discovered not a trace of colour left on my skin. A sure sign of an effective makeup remover.

The product is rather pricey, I’d be the first to admit. But if you want a high quality oil cleanser that contains a host of beautiful oils, feels like luxury on your skin and is so gentle while taking all the dirt of the day off, without stripping your skin of its natural oils in the process, you could do far worse.

IN A NUTSHELL

The Skin Creamery Oil-Milk Facial Cleanser is a thick oil emulsion that feels lush on the skin as you massage it over your dry skin. Add water a little at a time to emulsify before rinsing, or use a flannel. It removes light makeup effectively, and cleans skin without stripping nor drying it out. My skin feels so soft, clean and smooth after using it. You may find that the product may separate if left alone for a while. You can just shake it up to mix before pumping it out. One pump does the job well enough. A keeper in my cleansing arsenal. I have also used this as a short mask in the shower. I massage it in, leave it on a while, before washing off. Skin feels amazing – hydrated and nourished!

PROS: Luxurious and minimalist packaging, Very nice pump that locks, Thick lush oil texture feels lovely when massaged over the skin, Not drying and does not strip skin of natural oils, Removes light makeup effectively, Smells lovely

CONS: A little pricey, Glass bottle isn’t portable but oh so luxurious!

WHO WILL LIKE THIS: Anyone with dry skin but wants to use an oil cleanser, Anyone with sensitive skin or who prefers using natural and organic skincare products

PRICE: RM175 for 200ml

WHERE TO BUY: Savanna Goodness online, M+ Natural Remedies Pharmacy

If you’re interested, the ingredients for the Skin Creamery Oil-Milk Facial Cleanser is here.

Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Almond) Oil, Decyl Glucoside, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Glycerine*, Rhus Verniciflua (Berry) Peel Cera, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Fruit Oil*, Sodium Levulinate*, Sodium Anisate*, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Oil*, Sucrose Laurate, Citrullus Lanatus (Kalahari Melon) Seed Oil, Aqua (Water), Pelargonium Graveolens (Rose Geranium) Oil*, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Linalool**, Limonene**, Geranoil**, Citronellol**, Citral**      * certified organic ingredients  ** component of natural essential oils

I first experienced Baobab oil in the Skin Creamery Everyday Cream and then in the Facial Hydrating oil and I must say that the use of this ingredient that is found mostly in Africa, intrigues and impresses me. It is so good for hydration, and it is I swear, a game-changer for me. I am always happy to see it in any ingredient list these days – not many, but I do see it pop up here and again, and when it does, it usually works for my skin!

Have you tried anything from Skin Creamery?

I have loved everything I’ve tried from Skin Creamery so far! Because they have just a few products in their range, I’m sure I’ll have tried all of them at some point, and I’m hoping the rest do not disappoint! Have you tried any? 😀

I remember when I first tried the #antipodesskinca I remember when I first tried the #antipodesskincare Aura Manuka Honey Mask. It blew my mind away! Soothes skin. Boosts hydration and just makes you feel like you have the best skin ever! Not kidding. If you have a spot or irritated skin, it calms it down and helps get rid of your spots too. Honey is anti bacterial after all, so it’s a great multitasker.
I also love the Manuka Honey Skin brightening Day Cream. It’s light but creamy and sinks into the skin. I’ve reviewed them both on the blog in the past. If you run a search for Antipodes, you’d also notice how much I love the brand! 😁
I’m super late with this but if you’re planning to purchase any of these 3 Manuka honey items from TNS Skinlab, the code MYWSTUFF10 will give you an extra 10% off (until tomorrow 31 Dec) I highly recommend grabbing the Aura mask. You’ll never want to be without (I always have a backup!)
Thanks for the gift @tnsskinlab and I must apologise for my tardiness 😩 I’ll learn to cope better from next week!
Now I have to scuttle and write my year end musings. Some traditions must be kept! 😜

Haven’t done any Christmas shopping this year. It has only just struck me that it’s but mere days away! 😨 Have you done yours?
