Chanel Collection Libre 2017 : Eyes on the Silver Screen and Trait de Charactère Creation Exclusive Eyeshadow

November 13, 2017 Paris B 8 Comments

Chanel’s Christmas/Holiday collection this year – Collection Libre Numéros Rouges – is a little different from previous years I feel. There is a glaring hole in the collection, where a beautiful highlighter used to sit in every Christmas collection. Instead, Chanel has chosen to focus on lips, an interesting approach. I actually love it, because it’s a) different and b) red lipstick LOL! I’ve said it often, and I say it again. Lucia Pica has done wonderful things for Chanel makeup in my view!

Because I found the collection a little disparate, I decided I’d not lump it all together in one post, but to split it up and focus on the different aspects of it that I find interesting.

Although the collection puts red lips at the forefront, I’m approaching it from the eyes, because they are the windows to the soul after all 😛

But no seriously, there is one product there that I want to highlight, and one product that I want to revise my opinion a little on. I shared some preliminary thoughts on the collection during a live chat on Instagram and I think I’ve done one of the products a disservice (I do a weekly Instagram live chat on the weekend, if you were not aware, where we talk about any number of things, and I love answering questions and interacting in that short time we have. So join me, if you have not already!) Now, what is what? 😀

FINALLY! I’ve found a worthy alternative, affordable sunscreen in the Shiseido Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Aqua Booster SPF50+ PA++++

November 10, 2017 Paris B 35 Comments

One of my most requested posts, ever, is always about sunscreen. Every time I mention sunscreen, inevitably, someone will pop up and say “Is there a cheaper option that’s just as good at the Shiseido one you recommend?” ** and inevitably, I’ll say “I’m afraid I have not found one.”

Well, now I have. Almost.

Ladies and gents, may I present to you the Shiseido Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Aqua Booster SPF50+ PA++++ that steps up to the plate as a more affordable option to the sunscreen that, in an Apocalypse, you’ll have to pry from my stiff dead fingers **.

There is one snag – there always is – us poor sods here in Malaysia have no local access to it. (UPDATE FEB 2018: The Shiseido Anessa sunscreens are available in Watson’s stores in Malaysia. Keep your eyes peeled!) Cue a cacophony of wailing and beating of breasts in anguish 😀

MAKEUP TIP: The perfect way to blend concealer with a brush for a natural, diffused effect

November 8, 2017 Paris B 19 Comments

One of the first concealers I’d ever used was Benefit Boi-ing, after I was gifted with a sample. Before that, I’d never used one. But it was also when I was only wearing powder, blush and a lipstick. Concealers were beyond me. Not being savvy enough, and unsure if I’d bother with more makeup malarkey (Oh look how far I’ve come! LOL!) I eschewed the use of a brush. Fingers, I read, were good enough.

My experience with concealers and my fascination with them, for transforming me from tired, dull-eyed dullard, to fresh, perky almost-human, has never waned since. But one thing never changed.

best way to apply concealer

In all the many years, and after trying countless numbers of concealers in the market, I never stopped using my fingers to blend my concealer. Why use anything else? I figured, when I had these God-given tools at the end of my arms.

I spoke to a few makeup artists, and I noticed they too used their fingers a lot when doing makeup. The warmth of your fingers does help cream products meld and blend better with your skin. I spent years using my hands and fingers to apply foundation, before graduating to using brushes. But with concealer, I’ve spent my whole makeup life, until now, using my fingers to blend.

Often, I’d dot concealer where I need it, then use my fingers to spread it out and blend and pat it into place. For the most part, it’s worked well for me. But recently, I saw a brush being used, and that piqued my interest. So I gave it a shot. OMG! What a life-changing moment! 😀

Wear your precious stones and have a bejewelled Christmas with the Dior Precious Rocks collection

November 6, 2017 Paris B 8 Comments

Hello peeps! I’m back with my nose to the blogging grindstone, and as happens as this time of year, we are going to be inundated with Christmas selections! So, whether you like it or not, you’re going to read about them, so better now than never eh?

I swear Christmas releases are launched earlier and earlier every year. Soon, we’ll literally see Christmas in July! (I’m old-fashioned. Most people call the year-end collections the “Holidays collections” but I call them the Christmas collections) I’ll kick off with Dior – because I must confess, I am quite enamoured with this year’s collection!

dior precious rocks christmas 2017

I have been quite critical of Dior collections of late, and if I’m to be honest, Dior was starting to get predictable. We expect a gold eyeshadow palette, and we expect to be inundated with sparkly golden offerings and red accents. It’s what Dior has been doing every year for many years. but this year, I have to say, that the Dior Precious Rocks Christmas 2017 collection really perked me up.

I have a small selection from the collection to show you, and I’ll break them down briefly for you below. There is one (maybe two) item in the collection that I am very taken with, that I think is absolutely worth checking out. I’ll tell you which it is (although you can hazard a guess and tell me later if you guessed right! 😉 )
