5 Niche and Cult Skincare and Beauty Brands to consider trying at Caliata

November 22, 2017 Paris B 13 Comments

This post is written in collaboration with and kindly sponsored by Caliata.com

About a month ago, I introduced you to Caliata.com, an online beauty store based in Malaysia. What made Caliata stand out from other websites I’ve come across, was their brand selection (and the fact that their founder is very passionate about skincare and beauty herself). As I scanned the range of brands and products they carried, I found my excitement mounting. Here, finally, was a local online store that carried beauty, especially skincare, brands and products I like or have been curious about, but could only get online from overseas!

As a beauty and skincare buff, I’d tried, or am familiar with most of the brands carried by Caliata. They are primarily niche or cult brands, that aren’t necessarily easily available on mainstream websites, or stores. For some of them, if you haven’t been keeping your finger on the cult skincare pulse, you may not be familiar with the products or brands at all. So, I thought I’d share with you a sampling of 5 of these niche and cult skincare brands that stand out on Caliata. If you have tried any of them, I’d love to hear your thoughts too, because I may have sampled, but not tried them all! 🙂

The stars of the Chanel Collection Libre 2017 Numeros Rouges collection help you find your perfect red lip!

November 20, 2017 Paris B 14 Comments

Last week, I showed you some pieces from the Chanel Collection Libre Holiday 2017 collection. I told you then, that while some of the items there were noteworthy, the true stars of the collection were the lipsticks. They were so noteworthy, I felt they deserved their very own post!

The full name of the Chanel Holiday 2017 collection is Collection Libre Numéros Rouges. The stars, that are thrust to the forefront and centre, are a selection of Chanel’s popular Rouge Allure lipsticks, in a festive, limited edition red lacquered case. They usually come in black, as you will see here, but the red is beautiful! Rouge Allure lipsticks are the ones that you have to depress, and the tube will pop up for you to pull out, as I’ve demonstrated above. It is a very sleek packaging, as there are no protruding bits at all.

This Christmas, Chanel aims to help you find your perfect red lip, by presenting you with 4 shades in 2 textures, from which to pick. I however, unfortunately only have 3 to show you. But I did stop by the Chanel boutique, before I received these, and had a little play, so I’ll share some swatches of all 4 below. In many ways, this focus on red for the lips reminds me of Lucia Pica’s first Chanel collection, Le Rouge. I’m guessing red is her favourite colour to work with then 😀

YOUR SAY: Do you do your own facial massages? Do you even care to learn?

November 17, 2017 Paris B 8 Comments

I’d been wrestling with computer problems for the past 2 days, and to be honest, cannot be arsed to do any editing of photo-heavy posts so the next instalment of the Chanel Collection Libre has to wait. Instead, I had been having an on-going discussion with someone on the subject of facial massage, and I thought it was interesting to throw out the question to you.

Do you do your own facial massage? Say, daily or maybe weekly? Is it something you care about or something you are particularly interested in? Is it something you’d rather just let someone handle? Tell me 😀Continue Reading

Have yourself a Crazy, Colourful Christmas with the Jo Malone Green Almond & Redcurrant Cologne

November 14, 2017 Paris B 10 Comments

Jo Malone fans, I think you’d be adding their Christmas edition fragrance, Green Almond & Redcurrant, to your collection. Not because you love the scent (which you may) but because of the packaging! Jo Malone has set themselves a Crazy, Colourful Christmas theme, and the bottle of Green Almond & Redcurrant cologne, and its attendant complementary home scents reflect this.

Have you seen a more colourful rendition of a cologne bottle from the brand? I sure haven’t! Although keeping its regular square bottle shape, and domed cap, the bottle is spray-painted a soft, matte, pastel pink, and the label is picked out in contrasting green font.

When I was asked to pick out spray paint colours to customize my box during the Christmas press day, I said “Hey, let’s go with the pink and green! After all, it’s what Jo Malone has picked out!” LOL 😀

I have received more than a few queries as to how a Green Almond might smell, or if this is a nice fragrance. Well, remember always, that I never “review” fragrances, I only tell you my perception of them. So, here’s my thoughts on the new and limited edition Jo Malone Green Almond & Redcurrant cologne 🙂
