“Sheet masks are like fast food.” ~ Paris B
I’m not sure how this statement I’m making is going to be perceived, so it’ll be interesting to know your take, as it is a statement I’ve found myself making more often recently.
I’m not trying to be deliberately provocative, nor am I slamming the use of sheet masks. Quite many years ago, I wrote about why I or you might want to use a sheet mask (before the explosion of Korean brand masks hit the market), and much of what I wrote 7 years ago still holds true today.
I was using sheet masks from way back, when the market was primarily dominated by Japanese and Taiwanese brands.
Today, you can’t move for the availability of affordable and easy to find sheet mask brands, many of which I notice are made popular by Korean brands.
Anyone who talks about K-beauty will inevitably talk about the sheet masks they use, how often they use them and how lovely they are. When I visited Seoul quite many years ago, my luggage when I returned, was filled with sheet masks from different brands because they were so affordable to buy in bulk. I could have set up shop, if I had been more enterprising LOL!
Yet over the years, I’ve found myself using sheet masks less and less. I’m not sure that I ever finished my Korean stash; and the primary reason why I’m no longer into using sheet masks is the same reason I try to cook my own food when I can – sheet masks feel too much like fast food.
Fast food is not real food
I’m not saying that sheet masks are a bad thing. Like fast food, sometimes, we want that burger or fried chicken and fries fix. It fills us up when we’re hungry, it’s quick and it’s usually quite affordable. Quite, depending on where you live naturally.
Yet, fast food has its down sides as well, as we are all reminded now and again. Eat too much, and all that oil and salt will eventually kill you, or if it doesn’t, you’d just get fat 😛
I view sheet masks the same way.
Like fast food, sheet masks are convenient
Like fast food (think McDonald’s or KFC and the like), sheet masks are convenient and give your skin that much needed boost of hydration very quickly, the same way a McValue meal fills you up quickly.
Sheet masks usually come individually packed, and this makes them portable. That’s true of a burger and fries from a drive-in as well. You can easily carry a pack everywhere you go, and dispose of it when you’re done without any mess or fuss.
Sheet masks are easy to pop on the skin, and you don’t usually have to wash your face after that. So, you can follow up with your skincare routine quite easily thereafter.
Sheet masks – an environmental nightmare
But have you thought about how the packaging contributes to the landfill problem the world is facing?
I’m not your greenest person alive, and I honestly did not think about this, until I chanced upon a comment on a random website one day. It got me thinking about the single-use nature of the sheet masks, the packaging it comes in (sometimes packed with extra sheets to make it easier to fold or unfold) and the foil.
If you use a week’s worth of sheet masks, I think you’d notice quite quickly that your bin will soon overflow.
Fast food fills you up with empty calories – could that be true of sheet masks?
We know by now that the nutrition value of a fast food value meal rarely matches up to a proper “whole foods” meal, or slow-food as some people have called it. Fast food tends to be battered, fried and contain high levels of sodium and/or sugar. It fills you up (and often makes for a delicious cheat meal!) but often, it’s empty calories.
For me, sheet masks are the same. When I put on a sheet mask, it gives me that momentary pleasure. A delicious cooling down of the skin, and the sensation of a boost of hydration to the skin. I might even see a glow from within.
But it doesn’t last.
By the next morning, my skin is back to its normal self. It makes me wonder if I’m just seeing some placebo effect. Perhaps it’s the cooling down of my skin that’s giving me the glow? I don’t know.
I read often of people who use a sheet mask daily because they say it gives you the best effect. I’ve tried it. Use a sheet mask for 7 days in a row, and your skin does feel noticeably softer and more hydrated. Stop for a few days, and it all goes back to normal.
Fast food doesn’t use quality ingredients – could that also be true of sheet masks?
Now, we know that when a fast food burger claims to be “100% cow” they aren’t kidding 😛 Your nuggets aren’t made from 100% chicken and your burger patties are not 100% beef. You’re ingesting food that satisfies temporarily, without any long-term benefits.
So, is the same true of sheet masks?
If I’m so particular about the rest of my skincare, why am I putting a cheap face mask on my skin from a brand that I’d not otherwise use?
I’m not saying here that sheet mask brands use inferior or sub-standard ingredients. What I’m saying here is that I’m very particular about the rest of the skincare that goes on my skin, as most of you well know.
Yet, when it comes to a sheet mask, I’m comfortable closing one eye and just putting it on, without checking the ingredient list. Do you?
Or I might even use a sheet mask from a brand I’d never heard of or would never otherwise use, simply because it’s “just a sheet mask”.
I came across an article not long ago about the unsanitary conditions under which sheet masks were packaged. You don’t think they’re folded by machines do you?
Yet, the same people who might rail at moisturisers and creams being sold in tubs, will happily tear open a foil pack and slap on a sheet mask with no qualms. Does that foil pack lull us into a sense of complacency or give the impression that sheet masks are more hygienic than they really are? Note: Also read this comment by reader Jun Ni. I SHUDDER!
Fast food works out more expensive in the long run and so does using sheet masks
If you were to eat fast food every single day, you will quickly find that it all starts to add up and hurt your wallet quite soon. Not to mention what it’ll do to your waistline and heart!
When I was a kid, fast food was the occasional treat for birthdays or as a reward for doing well in exams. What can I say? I come from a small town and we took our indulgences where we could 🙂
Have you worked out how much your sheet mask habit costs you in the long run?
As I’ve mentioned above, I find the results from using sheet masks quite temporary. So, they’re great if I want to put a good face forward, quickly.
Sheet masks are good for a quick fix
If I’m travelling, a cooling sheet mask quickly rejuvenates me and my skin and makes me look better quickly. If I have a formal dinner to attend, slapping on a sheet mask a couple of hours before that plumps up my skin and makes me look better. But if I want a result that lasts, I go back to a proper mask that comes in a tub or tube.
I know some people say that you should use a sheet mask only 1-2 times a week, but let’s be honest. If that’s the case, why are there people making out a case for using a sheet mask EVERY SINGLE DAY as part of their skincare routine? Japanese and Korean skincare is at this level, and the Japanese even have packs of masks for 7-14 days in a row.
Wash off or leave on face masks deliver better and more lasting results
I have found, from a few years of experimenting, that the results from a proper wash off face mask or even a sleeping mask, delivers far better and more lasting results than a sheet mask.
With a facial mask, I can have the results last me up to a week or 3-4 days after that, before I need to do a mask again. If I go for a proper facial (my favourite is the La Mer one because the facial massages are second to none!) the results can last me up to 10 days sometimes, but at least 2-3 days.
Yet, many of us balk at paying for a tub or tube of a proper facial mask. That tub could last months, with the occasional weekly or twice weekly use (be generous and do a facial mask more often!) and you could yet many uses out of it. Yet, we balk – I’m just as guilty as you are!
But we’re happy to pay RM6 and up for a one-time sheet mask, because it’s “cheaper” (note: I don’t know how much sheet masks costs individually anymore sorry!). Yet, if you were to take the results into consideration, you’d have to end up using more sheet masks, more often, to achieve the same results you’d get from a RM150 tub of face mask, that can last you over 20-25 uses over a longer period of time.
By way of further example, I have found that the new cellulose or gel type sheet masks are better in terms of product delivery to the skin and I do experience better and longer lasting results using these masks. But cellulose and gel masks are expensive when compared to your basic paper masks. You couldn’t keep up a regular habit of using a gel mask that starts from RM10 each and can go up all the way to RM30 each. Yet people do.
Speaking personally, I hardly use sheet masks anymore as a treatment. For me, they are now more of a convenient treat to cool my skin or for that quick hydration hit. Just like fast food. Sometimes, I crave that sodium hit from fried chicken and french fries. I indulge. But most days, I eat whole foods wherever I can. And I’m applying that to my masking routines.

Do you use a sheet mask regularly? Do you prefer sheet masks to tub or tube wash off masks?
For the most part now, I use masks from tubes and tubs about twice a week, but at least once a week. I double mask or triple mask, depending on how much time I have. I find that the results last longer. For example, I might go at it with a mud or detox mask first, then follow up with a hydration mask or a revitalizing sleeping mask left on overnight. I do still sometimes indulge in a sheet mask, but like fast food, it’s an exception, not the norm. Food for thought maybe? Let me know what you think 😉

so much wisdom in this! i agree on the question of hygiene, same goes for disposable chopsticks, wet tissue >< I haven't used a sheet mask in quite a while because I find that my skin actually feels drier an hour later after the mask is off, despite the bouncy effect right after it. (time to discard those expired sheet masks!) and come to think about it, i need to look for a good mask now before my skin dies!
Paris B says
Ooh thank you for thinking it is wise LOL! But you’re also right about disposable chopsticks (though I do use them when provided >.< ) Oh yes, definitely bin those expired masks although it'll be funny to see how latte responds to you in a sheet mask LOL!
Firn says
My mum recently converted to sheet masking after a trip to Australia where she was exposed to quite a bit of sun and heat plus the climate is much drier. After a few days of sheet masking after she got back home, her irritated skin is back to normal.
I never just end my routine with just the sheet mask essence. I seal it in with an occlusive moisturizer afterwards. The essence is just not going to be able to keep all the hydration in on its own. I actually prefer to use a sheet mask to force penetration of other skincare I have applied underneath rather than as a substitute.
I like Lululun because of the price and the fact that it has no fragrance.
Paris B says
A friend gave me a pack of Lululun and it was decent. I don’t know where I can get it here (maybe because I don’t pay attention LOL ) I do have to agree that a sheet mask does give that immediate sense of comfort to the skin, especially in more drastic climates. I love a cool mask on my skin on a hot day too! Actually now that you mention it, I find I always layer a thin layer of facial oil under my sheet masks – perhaps that’s why I find them alright? Maybe I’m just helping myself haha!
Jue says
I never think of it that way really.
I used sheet mask when I travel because it’s easier to dispose and I can carry less tub in my make up stuff.
I dread finding my serum have leak etc.
But sleeping mask is an easier option and you don’t find the sheet dries on your face.
Paris B says
Oh I love sheet masks when I travel! When I get to my destination, the first thing I want to do is lie on the hotel bed with a sheet mask on haha! I know, it’s a waste of precious time, but it helps perk me back up especially if it’s been a long journey getting there. Which sleeping mask do you like? I’ve actually only used the Laneige and Sulwhasoo ones. Both I find ok, although I much prefer Sulwhasoo 🙂
Felix says
I did go from 1 sheet mask a day to almost none now. I don’t see the glow i initially got from the MBD masks many years ago anymore. Possibly because now i use good tub masks with good ingredients. I have to admit i leave most of my tub masks overnight as i don’t believe in buying a mask labelled ‘sleeping mask’. I do wakeup with glowing skin anyway so they seem the same to me. This thus eliminates the need to use sheet masks since i also don’t need to wash my mask off, nor get up to throw the mask away lol.
Paris B says
Haha you’re brave to leave your tub masks on overnight! Some aren’t meant to be (always be careful not to overdo, coz some of them are quite potent) Which are your favourite tub masks (I’m always game to find more!) Incidentally, I was using up some sheet masks recently, and found myself dripping all over my neck and pillow. What?!?! They were the MBD ones and I don’t remember them doing that before this. Grr…
Felix says
I use the Loccitane Immortelle Cream Mask, Antipodes Manuka Honey mask (well over a year old now but doesnt smell funky lol but sits in the fridge) and Darphin hydrating kiwi mask overnight. The Antipodes mask (disregarding the fact its probably stale) is the best one of the lot that gives me a good glow the next morning. I only use the Loccitane Cream mask overnight during winter. The Darphin one is supposedly only a 3 minute mask and it’s in a gel form… probably not very potent since it’s a gel?
I dont know if its because im not young anymore (i started with MBD when it first came out probably 10 yrs ago?)… perhaps my skin just needs a lot more now. I’m also in Australia so the weather is dry here compared to KL.
Hoping to get the Sulwhasoo overnight mask when i next go back to KL. Have you by any chance tried their Radiance Energy Mask? I see it on their US site.
Paris B says
Thanks for sharing! My Antipodes mask is quite old too but thus far, it’s the only product to actually go to town on a stubborn spot and making it go away! Seriously good stuff. I haven’t tried the L’Occitane or Darphin one yet, but they sound nice! I haven’t tried the Sulwhasoo Radiance mask, because it’s quite a lot pricier than the Overnight Revitalizing Mask, but I helped a friend buy it, and she says that it’s very good in Australian weather. Makes me tempted to have a go, except I’m told that prices have gone up again recently, so I might not be able to, just yet!
Margaret Cheong says
Horror of horrors! Thank you for sharing the article on the unsanitary conditions under which sheet masks were packaged. I have zero idea the unscrupulous manufacturers would resort to using manual labours in unsanitary environment. All these while we thought beauty products from Korea is manufactured under stringent guidelines.
I never have any penchant for sheet mask even during my maiden trip to Korea, I didn’t buy any for myself. I find them a persistent nightmare to environment from it’s many layers of plastic used in the packaging and separating foil. To me, it’s not worth my penny because it is composed of a thin cellulose material drenched in an aqueous mixture of water, preservative, actives and perfume. The questionable amount of actives which further made diluted and heavier with water made it not worth the haul especially if you are travelling. I might as well get the serum or essence, drench them onto cotton pads and plop them to the skin.
Paris B says
Oh yes when that scandal broke, I actually cringed! But I don’t think it’s putting many people off (or maybe few people have come across the article) because people are still raving over sheet masks LOL! I always had my doubts about Korean skincare to be honest. It is a business after all, and if something is very affordable, with a lot of marketing (that needs money) there must be some corners being cut. That said, I never really thought about the environmental issue (mostly because I’m not very green 😛 ) but that comment I read really struck me. There is SO MUCH wastage in a pack of sheet mask and imagine when that enters our landfills, as they won’t be biodegradable. Using serums and essences to make your own mask is a good idea. I usually prefer using an oil though. A nice thick layer of oil mask gives me nice glowy skin the next day 😀
Mei says
Could you kindly recommend some good facial masks? Thank you.
Paris B says
Hi, it depends on what you’re looking for. You can take a look here for the masks I’ve tried so far 🙂 But for a revitalizing one, I like the Sulwhasoo Overnight Revitalizing Mask, and the Kiehl’s one. I also don’t mind the Laneige Sleeping Mask (although I don’t use it often due to the scent) and I often use a facial oil as a mask – apply more on damp skin, massage it in and leave it on for glowing skin 🙂
Vivian K says
Hi Paris!
I’ve never actually given any thought on any of these, and after reading this post, I find myself agreeing to many of the points you raised.
However, I noticed proper facial establishments using the Dermalogica brand is transitioning to the usage of cellulose sheet masks. Would they provide me the same effect from wash off masks, I wonder. The issue of sanitary also comes to mind, since clients pay more than a RM6 sheet mask.
Paris B says
Hi Vivian, glad I made you think! 🙂 You know I always feel that facial places that use those sheet masks are just taking the easy way out and I honestly don’t like it. I haven’t gone for Dermalogica so I can’t comment on their practices. Sometimes, some places will soak a paper mask in essence or serum which I think is better. But if it’s just from a foil pack, I feel short changed LOL!
Gerrine says
What u said make sense actually. Haha sheet mask will obviously b more expensive than wash off mask in the long run. But recently I m into sheet masks rather than wash off. To be exactx it’s the Japanese sheet masks that comes is 30 per pack. But I m still using some clay masks.
Paris B says
Thanks Gerrine 🙂 To be honest, I use sheet masks too. Just not regularly. The same way I eat fast food – just not everyday. Balance and moderation is key here 🙂 The other thing I worry about in those large mask-packs is how sanitary is it once you open it?
Gerrine says
Yup, the sanitary condition is 1 thing to worry about but since i m not sharing the mask, shoud b ok. I m not really particular about it.
Renee says
Love the analogy of sheet masks being like junk food; makes total sense. I too also think it’s quite expensive in the long run.
Now, confession: I’ve never used a sheet mask before. Now I really don’t want to, after that article on how its packaged! X_x
Paris B says
Hi Renee, yeah I was trying to think of something to equate it to, when I was talking to a friend, and fast food just leapt out at me! It’s quite accurate an analogy if I don’t say so myself haha! Oh and you aren’t really missing very much not using a sheet mask. You can do it yourself, using cotton pads and a serum or essence 😀
Beauty Bee says
Interesting post/idea Paris!
I prefer masks that come in a tub or tube also. They seem to be more ‘fuss free’ (i.e. you don’t have to worry the mask will fall off and there’s no fluffing around, trying to make it fit nicely and adhere to your skin). Fibre sheet masks also aren’t that great at delivering ingredients into the deeper layers of your skin.
I’ll use sheet masks every now and then, but always check the ingredients to see if it’s suited for my skin and prefer sheet masks made using bio-cellulose. They are also great for travel, as they are light.
Good point that they may seem cheap, but are actually more expensive per use, when compared to a tub or tube mask!
Sheet masks are definitely a fad lol
Paris B says
Haha glad you found it interesting Sylvia 🙂 Oh and you are right about how they fit. Goodness. Sometimes, I can’t breathe coz of an improperly placed nose flap, and sometimes I can’t see, thanks to poorly cut out eye holes. We aren’t all homogenous! LOL I do think that many people get suckered in by sheet masks due to the cost (and hype) but I also think there’s something more to skincare than just convenience. Or maybe I’m just old fashioned in my outlook – not everything fast is good!
airah says
i love using sheet mask but after i read ur thought maybe i should think twice
Paris B says
Haha just not too often Airah 🙂
SG says
I enjoy the convenience of sheet masks but I rarely have the time to put one on and wait for it to absorb.
I’m too low maintenance and a sleeping mask is all the effort I can muster.
This was a thought-provoking article with a great analogy. Thanks, Ms.P!
Paris B says
Funny that the convenience is actually an inconvenience! I’d forgotten how drippy they get when they first come out of the pack. Ugh! That feeling when you feel the product slipping down the back of your neck is awful!
Jun Ni says
Hi Paris, I am glad you bring up this topic. I have stopped using sheet mask for 2 years. Last time I swore by it and will stock up tonnes of them when on sale. But ever since I read a book by a beauty guru from Taiwan I stopped using them and discarded all sheets I had. 😉 Besides what you are concerned about (the hygiene etc), she also mentioned something the beauty industry will never reveal, the amount of additives they add to the sheet masks – Imagine how they produce a facial sheet fully soaked with water/lotion that need to be last long enough on shelf…to avoid mold/fungi, additives are added..*gasp*
Paris B says
Hi Jun Ni, that is such a good point and you made me shudder! Goodness gracious. It all makes a lot of sense actually that they have to preserve it especially since it comes in an environment that makes is super friendly to mould >.< Ugh!
Elisse Baga says
Everything I know about sheet masks is wrong… I am an avid fan of sheet masks thanks to the brand Leaders and actually the reason why I love the brand is because of their formula of the essence that comes with every pack and I only buy it because that is effective. But now that you put this topic up, I realize that you are right and most of the mask users are wrong. After all, it is all about money for this companies. Budget-wise, we truly can get more from masks in tub or jar than in a pack. We land in their baits of marketing strategy and more of the sachet marketing, giving us the illussion that it is cheaper but in the long run its not. That those who can’t commit or afford to buy expensive mask can use a sheet mask instead. I guess I need to get back in using diy mask than thisn
Paris B says
Hi Elisse, to be honest, I don’t know how right I am. I’m just really putting forth my view because I’ve seen this major push to sell sheet masks and by people pushing it as part of their skincare routines, and I just didn’t think it was the perfect solution. After all, like all convenience food, there’s always a price to pay! Masks that comes in tubs or tubes are definitely far more economical in the long run, although there is a bigger capital outlay up front. It’s a delicate balance, I understand, especially for those on a budget. I guess, using a sheet mask once a week is better than not using one at all? I’m not sure haha 😀
Nabihah Mazlan says
I stopped using face mask a long ago because I don’t like how messy and wet it gets. I stick to mask in tube (for clay mask ) and sleeping mask.
Paris B says
Which are your favourite tub/tube masks Nabihah? 🙂 I’ve been using up some sheet masks recently and oh boy! I’d forgotten how messy they can be! LOL!
Nabihah Mazlan says
For clay mask I recently switch to Freenan Mint & Lemon Clay Mask. Used to use Himalaya Clay Mask but it itches as it dries down. As for sleeping mask, I use Cosway’s Bioglo Rose Sleeping Mask
Paris B says
Thanks for sharing Nabihah!
Seraph says
An interesting perspective i must say… the points u mentiones never occured to me…
however i think i’d still enjoy a good sheet mask on days i feel lazy to go through the process of applying a wash off or mud mask then to wait for 15-20 min before washing it off n probably getting wet in the process… lol! But probably a food for thought to reduce my frequency of sheet masks…
Time to stock up on tub masks… Hey, more reason for shopping eh!
Paris B says
Hey Seraph, absolutely nothing wrong with the odd sheet mask – some days we want fried chicken too! 😀 I usually do my masks while watching TV – that way, I can time it nicely for 1 episode of TV, and I know I won’t be doing anything in that interim 🙂
Seraph says
Sadly i cant watch tv while doing mask… blame the need for glasses… ?
Paris B says
When I wore glasses, I’d perch my glasses on top of my mask! I’d have to wash it after that but it beat the boredom LOL!
Seraph says
Hey! Why havent i thought of that before! All those wasted hours… urgh…
Paris B says
LOL! Well, now you know and you can literally, Netflix and chill with a mask! 😉
Ika Sani says
Oh my.. I have a ton of sheet mask now…..
I will finish my stock and buy mask in the tube or jar next time
Paris B says
Hi Ika, it’s just my view actually, if you’re happy with it (and already own a ton of sheet masks) do use it! 🙂 You can also use it when you travel or if you’ve been out in the day and want to cool down your skin in the evenings. It’s my favourite way to do so! 😀
Faith says
I used to use (sheet) masks occasionally but I did not feel like they made a drastic difference to my skin the next day. I was trying to get myself on a proper habit of toning and moisturising my face after I wash them and masks were just a bonus if I felt like it.
However, these past few weeks, I’m proud to say I’ve been pretty consistent on my toning and moisturising and I do tub masks every other day – LANEIGE Sleeping Masks or Hada Labo’s (ahh I can’t remember the name)
Before I mask though, I usually try to exfoliate my face first with CURE’s Aqua Gel, tone and then do INNISFREE’s Volcanic Clay Mask and then follow it up with a Sleeping Mask. I feel that the effects are much longer lasting that way.
Paris B says
Good on you for sticking to a proper skincare regimen 🙂 I actually feel lost now if I have to shorten my regimen for any reason haha! You know, I’d heard so much about Cure gel through the years but I’d never actually used it. Just seemed so gimmicky to me! 😛 That said I remember the Innisfree Volcanic mask is quite good!
Victoria says
I could not agree with you more on this matter especially with regards to sheet masks harming the environment and the fact that it definitely contains additives that could proof harmful to the skin in the long run. I have not used sheet masks in years as I find it too much of a trouble to sit and wait for the essence to absorbed into the skin as I am always in a rush in the evenings (not easy when you have an active toddler). Having said that, its also tough to find the time to do a proper leave-on mask these last few months hence the option of overnight masks and your favourite, the Sulwhasoo is one mask that I plan to check out soon 🙂
Paris B says
I actually used to think that sheet masks were more convenient, until I realised you can’t really move around with one on your face because you’d be dripping everywhere and it’ll slip. A good excuse to do nothing, but I can imagine that it’s not ideal for mommies LOL! Overnight masks are always a good option although I’ve not found many outside of Korean brands that do it. So, I use an oil. Damp skin with a mist, use a facial oil (5-6 drops which is more than my usual 2-3 drops) then massage it in. I wake up with nice glowy skin next day! Try that maybe? 🙂
Victoria says
I was at Parkson KLCC during lunch to check out that Sulwhasoo overnight mask and it has gone up to RM200 on 1st of April. Sigh. Way out of my budget now for a mask. I may as well just stick with Laneige Sleeping mask although I was quite eager to give Sulwhasoo a try. I might try that facial oil method. I am guessing its Pai’s facial oil?
Paris B says
Ugh noooo!! 🙁 🙁 It still is one of the more affordable items to get from Sulwhasoo (which is so expensive albeit a pretty decent brand) so if the opportunity arises, do try it. But otherwise, the facial oil mask works a treat too. I do like Pai Rosehip oil a lot (I need to repurchase) and it gives me a really nice glow used as a mask, but I also do it with any facial oil I have on hand. Just be sure to dampen the skin so it goes on more easily. You will end up with a more oily face, but I suppose that’s ok since you’ll be going to bed after 😀
Amanda says
Paris, I have the exact thoughts a couple of months ago, especially when the Korean sheet mask scandal was happened. Yet, nowadays I’m back with using them once in a while because there are just a lot of new interesting and promising sheet mask during my hiatus of using sheet mask. But yeah, I agree with you, the high quality hydrogel and regular sheet mask that I love usually come from high-end brand, like say, SK-II and SU:M37, cost a lot in a long run. With a cheaper sheet mask, you just have that short term hydration boost, unlike sheet mask from higher end brands.
But then again, I might as well bought their full bottle products and soak my cotton pads with the essence a la Chizu Saeki method and got similar benefits. So, yeah, nowadays I treat sheet mask as a once in a while treatment and the way to sample hyped up products before I bought their full size products because most of Korean and Japanese brands tend to have their “sheet mask” version of their best selling products. 😉
Paris B says
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Amanda! It’s nice to know that someone else has thought about this too – makes me feel like less of a Debbie Downer to those who love sheet masks haha! 😀 I didn’t realise that many Korean/Japanese brands have their regular products in sheet mask form! That said, I dont’ use much Asian skincare which might explain why I haven’t observed it. but still, I’ve nothing against the odd sheet mask encounter – I enjoy it myself! Just like burger and fries… mmm…
