Your Say: Are skincare or serum-infused foundations sufficiently beneficial for your skin?

November 22, 2016 Paris B 18 Comments

If there’s one aspect of makeup evolution that I have welcomed with open arms, it is the evolution of base makeup, or foundation. I stayed away from using liquid foundation for many years until fairly recently, due to its texture – thick and cakey. Sheer foundation was quite unheard of back in the day – why use a sheer foundation? You might as well not wear makeup. Makeup was to be seen.

Now, we have moved on, thankfully!

With the evolution of base makeup, I’ve also noticed how cosmetics brands are positioning their foundation or base makeup, as a skincare-hybrid product. Because it goes on all over your face, almost like a moisturiser or skincare product, companies are now infusing their foundations with all sorts of skincare benefits. It started out with sunscreen (many foundations now boast a pretty high SPF) and most recently, brands are now infusing their bases with serum and skincare benefits. It may not be reflected in the name, but it’ll be there, as one of the selling points of the foundation.

I got to talking with a beauty editor recently about this, when she asked me what I thought about skincare serum in foundation, and whether it was sufficient, or if there were any benefits to be derived from it. That was interesting. I never quite thought about it before! 😀

My relationship status with La Mer Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation : It’s complicated

November 21, 2016 Paris B 14 Comments

I’d received so many queries about the La Mer Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation over on Instagram, that I figured it was time I sit down and actually write about it. I haven’t been able to give very straight one word “I like it” or “I hate it” answers, because the truth is, it’s complicated.

This isn’t the first time La Mer has had a foundation. They had a whole base makeup range a while back (their concealer and loose powder came highly recommended to me then) but in recent years, they discontinued the range, pulled back, retreated, reformulated, and they have now relaunched the Skincolor de La Mer range.

The Skincolor de La Mer range consists of The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation, The Powder, The Concealer, The Reparative Skin Tint (which you have seen before) and The Foundation Brush. I’d like to focus here on the Soft Fluid foundation, although I’ll give my 2 cents about The Powder as well (you don’t want to miss that! 😉 ).

The Dr. Brandt Power Dose Vitamin C might be small but it sure is mighty good stuff!

November 18, 2016 Paris B 16 Comments

While I’d known for many years about the efficacy of vitamin C for skin, as an antioxidant and for clarifying and firming up the skin, I’d never had much luck with it. It wasn’t until I used the Hylamide C25 Booster that I actually noticed results. Since then, I’ve been itching to try more, and maybe, better formulas.

I found one!

I first came across the Dr. Brandt Power Dose Vitamin C on Futurederm, which I’d suggest you read for a clinical breakdown (and favourable) review of this serum. The minute I clapped eyes on that post, I knew I had to have it.

Fortuitously, a bottle of the Dr. Brandt Power Dose Vitamin C popped onto my desk one day, much to my squeals of delight 🙂 My first reaction when I saw the bottle was a disbelieving frown. If you notice from the box, it is a mere 16.3ml of product. It’s TINY!

Yet, this serum has visibly clarified my skin even further than what I saw with Hylamide C25 Booster, and even more significantly, it had lightened my pigmentation. That’s what sold me onto this product and convinced me I was on to a winner.

Diptyque invites you to spend Une Nuit Chez Diptyque this Christmas

November 16, 2016 Paris B 2 Comments

Christmas time, in a large part of the world is a time of the mini ice age, when snow flurries swirl across the sky and treacherous ice threatens road users and pedestrians. It is a time when the skies will go dark by mid-afternoon and the cold chills you to the bone. It’s no wonder then, that candles and warm scents do well at this time of year. Every bit of cheery light counts!

And no one does Christmas candles quite like Diptyque. Every year, I wait to see what Diptyque has dreamed up for their Christmas collection, and I’m rarely disappointed. Ok, perhaps I have been a little disappointed, but that’s more to do with personal preferences.

This year’s theme at chez Diptyque is Une Nuit Chez Diptyque (A Night at Diptyque), a theme with an interesting story. Legend has it that a long-serving Diptyque staff, Henri who has been with the brand for over 25 years, was snowed in the store at 34 Boulevard St. Germain one Christmas. He fell asleep and had a dream about the store coming to life. He might have overdosed on the Nutcracker, methinks LOL! 😀 But it’s a cute story, and a lovely tribute to a long serving staff member 🙂 I have the video up on the MWS Facebook page, if you’re interested to view it. It’s really cute! 🙂

I’ll just run down some of the offerings, for those who are keen.
