Navigate the lipstick jungle : 5 creamy lipsticks worth splurging on

May 23, 2016 Paris B 20 Comments

Lipstick, like blush and foundation, is a bit of a weakness of mine. I love checking out new formulations on offer, although I’ve learned since that I much prefer solid lipsticks, and I like certain textures better than others. It allows me to not make costly errors the way I used to before!

5 creamy lipsticks worth splurging on

When I started out using lipstick, I preferred the lighter, moisturising balm-textured lipsticks. I still like them, but these days, I find myself busting out the creamy, opaque textured ones more. They last longer on lips, they aren’t too glossy, but they aren’t flat and matte either. They are, in the words of Goldilocks, just right! 😀 I call them my adult lipsticks – good for adulting 😀

As many of you know, my tastes in makeup tend to run to the higher end brands, so after playing the field, here are 5 creamy lipsticks worth splurging on! 😀

I’m giving the La Solution 10 de Chanel Sensitive Skin Cream a Perfect 10 for efficacy!

May 20, 2016 Paris B 10 Comments

To be perfectly honest with you, I’d never for once in my life put “Chanel” and “sensitive skin” in the same sentence, when it comes to skincare. I wouldn’t categorize my skin as being sensitive, but even skin like mine, used to being bombarded with various products, can’t tolerate Chanel skincare. That’s the primary reason you don’t read about Chanel skincare on my blog – I just can’t use them!

I tried a long while ago, when I was venturing into more premium brands, and promptly found myself breaking out. I’m not sure what I attribute it to – alcohol or fragrance could well be the culprits. So, I’ve stayed away, with a yard long stick before me… until now.

The only reason I agreed to trial the new La Solution 10 de Chanel Sensitive Skin Cream is because of its claims. The name is derived from the fact that this product, the first of what I believe will be a new range of skincare within Chanel’s stables, contains just 10 ingredients, took 4 years and 117 trials to get right, and is formulated with New York dematologist, Dr Amy Wechsler, with the express intention to soothe skin with the fewest possible ingredients.

The reason behind having few ingredients is manifold. You know exactly what’s in there, it’s not very complex, and there is less potential for it to irritate the skin. But Chanel went one step further. They removed many known skin irritants – fragrance, mineral oil, parabens – and made this not only soothing, but also protective of skin.

I had to see if this was something of a breakthrough product! 😀

Going dotty over the Dior Milky Dots Summer 2016 Collection which revealed 1 surprise hit

May 18, 2016 Paris B 15 Comments

When Dior first announced their adorably named Dior Milky Dots Summer 2016 collection, I perked up a little. I haven’t been very kind to Dior lately, and I was previously quite a Dior girl. So, I wanted to see how cute a collection could be with an eyeshadow palette named the 5 Couleurs Polka Dots palette. Polka dots! You can’t look at polka dots and not feel happy, right?

So, imagine my consternation when nothing featured polka dots.

There I was, all ready to coo over a polka dotted eyeshadow palette or maybe even a blush… only to have my air let out like a deflating balloon. Sigh… Dior, why do you persist to disappoint me?! 🙁

That said, it wasn’t all doom and gloom. I was gifted with 3 items from the Dior Milky Dots collection to show you, and one of them turned out to be quite a hit with me. I’ll let you pause and take a guess before you head on to find out my views on the 3 items are 🙂

Stuff I’m liking right now (There’s beauty of course, but there’s also some non beauty stuff)

May 16, 2016 Paris B 18 Comments

Having a structured blog is a good thing. I know exactly what goes up when, and if you pay enough attention, so do you. But occasionally, I like to throw that structure out the window. This is a kind of personal-ish blog after all, and sometimes, I just like to collate the things I’m enjoying, or liking right now.

It helps that I’m not really in much of a swatching mood, so all the new makeup stuff have to wait a little. Swatching makeup is quite challenging, if anyone has tried it. Wearing it and then trying to get a decent photo is worse. So, I’ve forsaken all that for a while, and instead, I’m going to share some stuff that I’m liking right now with you, and if you deign to, how about sharing yours with me too! 😀
