When it comes to perfumes, I’m often vocal in my dislike for floral scents. Show me a rose infused fragrance and watch me wrinkle my nose in disdain. My nose doesn’t like roses in general.
Yet, you know what they say about Murphy’s Law. I never thought the day would come when I’d wax lyrical about a rose perfume!
The surprising scent is the Acqua Nobile Rosa by Italian perfume house, Acqua di Parma. I actually picked this up sight unseen, and unsmelled. It’s a very risky thing to do, and not something I’d recommend. I’ve picked up duds this way too! 😛
For some reason, I picked this up, despite the floral name and knowing that it would come up smelling of roses, and it turned out that I was pleasantly surprised 🙂
As the name implies, Acqua Nobile Rosa is rose scented. However, it comes across with a light, fresh rose scent, anchored by a delicate, warm musk. There is enough greenery in there, thanks to the notes of bergamot and mandarin, to lift the scent and prevent it from feeling too heavy. I find that rose scents in general tend to weigh down on me and give me a headache, which is why I don’t like them very much.
This one however, is pleasant, uplifting, and makes me think of walking through a rose garden after the rain. The fresh scent of roses, tempered by the green scent of post-rain freshness. I do find it a little strong, so I take care to spritz only a little as I also find that it lasts quite a while on me.
Personally, I prefer wearing this one when the air is cooler. So, it’s nice in an air-conditioned area, where it adds freshness to the otherwise stale air. But in a warmer room, it can come across as smelling a little heavy.
For those who live where there are different seasons in a year, I’d peg this one for a Spring scent. A lovely light floral to wear as the crisp air starts to warm up a little and the sun comes out, and the flowers start to bloom. It’s a pretty scent, but coming from Acqua di Parma, it doesn’t come cheap, naturally.
There was a time when I was wearing this one almost every day. It had that addictive effect on me, and for some reason, it lasts well on my skin. So, I’d catch fleeting whiffs of fresh roses through the day, and for some reason, it made me happy and feel fresh, even as my spirits start to flag.
That’s the fun thing about perfume – how it makes you feel, because perfumes don’t smell the same on everyone, and they don’t evoke the same feelings or memories for everyone either. Perfumes are very individual, and for this reason, they are fun – just very expensive to play around with because it’s so easy to go so wrong 😛
Do you like wearing rose scented perfumes? Have you come across this one before?
Acqua di Parma perfumes have worked well for me so far. However, they do tend to be quite pricey. I’m glad the few I’ve tried have worked well enough that I’m happy experimenting with the brand. But when it comes to perfumes, except for the very rare exceptions, rarely do you get a good perfume that’s cheap; and when it’s cheap, you’ll know!

I like smell of roses as long as it’s light 🙂 But it’s hard to find perfume with that preference, haha. So I’m curious about this one. I think I have one from DKNY with rose scent and I try to use it as few as possible as i don’t want it to run out too soon LOL
Usually you included the price and where we can get the product but this one you didn’t. Is it really THAT expensive?!! Hehe.

Haha well, most rose based perfumes do tend to be a little heavy I find. And then they make me feel sick! 😛 The reason I didn’t include the price and where to buy is because I literally have no idea 😛 I couldn’t seem to find this online and I can’t even tell if it’s discontinued or if it’s a permanent thing 😛

Well, roses have thorns and apparently the smell is also thorny to our sense of smell LOL But it’s really disappointing to get roses from florists and no smell at all 😛
Paris B says
That’s because the roses we buy in store are force-grown and forced to bloom. That’s also why they die to quickly once you take them home. But if you let a rose grow and bloom on the plant, it smells beautiful!

I really do like rose scented perfumes but as you’ve said, good perfumes don’t come cheap! Currently I have the Rosabotanica perfume and it is quite a heavy perfume that I use only for the winter/autumn months. Maybe I’ll give this a try the next time I’m in a department store!

If you can find it, take a sniff. I didn’t include info where it could be found because it was surprisingly hard to find online! But if you do come across an Acqua di Parma counter, ask for a sniff. It’s pretty! Just hefty on the wallet.

Hi where did you purchase this?

Hi there, I got it off StrawberryNET.com 🙂 I believe it might now be on sale.

I absolutely love rose-scented perfumes if only they have more body to them! I absolutely despise rose perfumes that smell like rose water, not because they smell terrible but simply because they smell boring. An example of a “rose water” perfume would be Dolce & Gabbana Rosa Excelsa. I might write a review on it one day! I really love Stella Mccartney but it has already been discontinued. I have a bottle and I treasure every drop.
