Not quite a highlighter, the Bobbi Brown Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm gives skin an extra boost of radiance

March 21, 2016 Paris B 6 Comments

What is with PB and highlighters recently eh? A couple of weeks back, I told you about a liquid highlighter that had me absolutely head over heels over it, and this week, I’m going to show you yet another highlighter-type product. Ok, so this one doesn’t call itself a highlighter, but an illuminating balm, and there is a difference. It means you are justified owning both! LOL!

The Bobbi Brown Illuminating Moisture Balm popped on the scene some time last year, and straddles the line between the Bobbi Brown makeup and skincare ranges. You will notice this from 2 things – the name (the Bobbi Brown Extra label usually encompasses the skincare range) and the product description (Moisture Balm).

This isn’t a primer, nor is it technically a highlighter. What it is, if you can imagine, is like a moisturiser that illuminates your skin so it looks brighter, radiant and better. It’s like faking good skin when you don’t really have great skin or are feeling a little blah that particular day. It’s not a must have, because it’s not a life-changing skincare item, but it is most certainly nice to have! 🙂

Glossy nails made easy with the Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System

This post is kindly sponsored by Scholl Malaysia

Beauty blogger or no, I detest going for manicures. Nail polish isn’t my thing, and while I enjoy the look of shiny nails, I don’t have that kind of patience to sit with an emery board to file and buff and shine my nails. Takes a lot of elbow grease too!

So, when Scholl told me that there is a gadget that can do all that for me electronically, yes, I was intrigued! The gadget in question is the new Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System, that promises to give you the appearance of healthy, shiny, glossy nails, in no time at all! Perfect for busy ladies like us 😉

Broadspectrum sun protection by Algotherm Algosun that is also ocean and coral-safe

March 17, 2016 Paris B 4 Comments

As experimental as I get with my skincare, there is one category that I’m slavish to sticking to a product that works, and that is sunscreen. When I found the sunscreen of my dreams, I stuck with it. I keep backups because I’m afraid of running out, and I’m very happy with it.

But because I like exploring different products, I jumped at the chance to try some new sunscreen in the market, especially one that claims to be kind to corals and marine life. Quite often, the one time that people will be more diligent about using sunscreen will be when they head to the beach for some Vitamin Sea, and this brand claims that their sunscreen will not endanger marine life.

Algotherm is a French brand of skincare that isn’t widely available, from what I can tell. I’ve stumbled across one or two of their products over the years, and while I’d been interested to try more, the lack of access daunts me. Locally, they are sold through selected salons and personally, I’m not one to hunt down a salon just to try or buy a product. Besides, I’m put off because often, you’re given the hardsell treatment.

Yet, when I was given the opportunity to try the Algotherm Algosun Age Protect Sun Cream and Sun Lotion (without having to traipse off to a salon – whew!), I must say that I was pretty impressed.

When to throw out your makeup? How long should you keep it for before it’s too old?

March 16, 2016 Paris B 26 Comments

I received an email from a long-time reader just recently, asking me if I’d ever talked about the shelf-life of cosmetics, in particular, dry (powder) cosmetics. She had an eyeshadow palette that didn’t seem to work anymore and was wondering if it might have outlived its shelf life and should be tossed.

how long to keep makeup before you should throw them out

It was an interesting question, because I realised that I’d never really talked about the life-span of makeup before this, or how long you should keep your makeup before throwing it away. The primary reason is that, once I do, I’ll come across as sounding like a right hypocrite! 😛

But in the interest of discussion, I thought I’d tell you what the general shelf-life of makeup is, and then you can tell me if you stick to it, or if you wing it, the way I do 😉
