A few days ago, I was at a launch of a new product from La Mer. While I thoroughly enjoy their product launches (all the food, none of the faff) I made it a point to go for this one, because I knew what they were launching, and I just HAD to see for myself, this new serum that’s as good as gold.
Come to think of it, ounce for ounce, it’s probably far pricier than gold!
This new product is the La Mer Genaissance Serum Essence, that comes in a reflective rose-gold glass flacon, reminisent of that for a perfume. You catch a glimpse of this precious liquid serum, from a small translucent window towards the bottom of the bottle.
I believe that this has just launched, worldwide, and is in fact, already on counters here in Malaysia. So, if you’re curious about it, pop down and have a look, feel and sniff. I know, sometimes, the SAs can be a little intimidating, but you know, ask anyway. If you never ask, the answer is always no 😉
But what is this serum about then?
This isn’t a review, and I haven’t yet tried it so all this is is an informative blurb, as you will. I just had to share the news, because it’s so bloody fascinating. Besides, once there’s a review, you’ll know! 😉
So, what makes Genaissance de la Mer so precious, according to La Mer, is that it contains Crystal Miracle Broth™, an essence obtained from the discovery of pure crystals forming in their trademark Miracle Broth formula. The formula is said to be a pure concentration of the Miracle Broth made by using a fermentation built around the Pom Pom Red Algae and combined with wavelengths of natural light.
But you know, interesting back story aside, what you really want to know, is just what will this RM2415 (US$620) serum do for you. Oh yes, you saw that right! 😀 I hope you were sitting down.
Well, it promises to do everything! Lighten lines and winkles, boost skin collagen and elasticity, refine pores, strengthen skin barrier, firm, plump and lift skin … is there anything it won’t do? And to top it all, it does it all quickly, declaring results almost immediately. Wow.
However, La Mer was also quick to point out that even by La Mer’s luxurious standards, this is at the pinnacle of its product range. They have other relatively, more affordable serums that may do similar things and I’ll be the first to point out that there are always other more affordable brands or more affordable options out there. But it’s like cars you know. They all take you from Point A to B, but some people prefer driving a Mercedes to a Proton; and if they can afford it, I say go for it! 😀
By way of a quick first impression, I rather liked the scent, which I found vaguely familiar, as well as the golden serum. Just 1 drop, smoothened over the back of my hand left it looking significantly better, and it continued looking that way all through the 2 hours I was there.
It is a non-sticky product that sinks in quickly into the skin and feels fairly comfortable. You could say that I’m pretty taken by it. But I also realise that in current economic times, this will not be for everyone. At least, I’m thinking, the ones who are able to afford this, probably will buy it regardless, and they won’t be reading my blog LOL! 😀
But for the rest of us everyday mortals, this one will be one to eye up.
Does this new serum pique your interest? Or perhaps, you’re still looking for your jaw that’s fallen to the floor?
I must say the price stunned me as well. But then, it probably won’t be long before another luxury brand ups the ante and stuns me with another more expensive product – oh yes, they do exist out there! Never fails to have me searching the floor for my jaw when that happens 😉

Oh wow, this sounds amazing but sadly I still cant afford that amount on skincare, hopefully one day
Paris B says
You’re not the only one Nashia – few of us can drop that sort of cash on a bottle of serum!

Holy. WOW. At first thought I’m like HECK NO. But if it would lift my chin and eyes back into place and make me look like I did when I was 25, I’d probably save up for it. $625 US, so that’s probably $1000 CAN, so save $100 a month by the end of the year I’d have enough hahahaha! Now, that’s the hard part though saving that $100 a month though-it doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’d mean giving up other treats. So yeah, prob not gonna happen! Do you get to try it?
Paris B says
Ah, what price beauty eh, Tracy? 😀 I did get to try it so I’m quite excited. I hope it doesn’t work because then, how on earth am I supposed to upkeep its use, eh?! But yet, I hope it does, because it better work if anyone is going to drop that sort of good, hard cash on a serum!

This uber potent La Mer crystalized elixir is pure luxury indeed, if only the ‘dropper’ is similar to the Eye Lifting Serum or the Renewal Oil, that would certainly give it a more expensive, ‘red-carpet’ look, instead of chrome or silver, it could be gold and made sturdier. Even so, with the current dropper design, this has not only become one of La Mer’s must have, but to die for.
Yet, if only iPhone didn’t exist… ?
*I like reading all of your reviews on La Mer skincare lines, and it was Nov last year when I decided to make my first purchase, I bought the 60ml jar of the super-thick moisturizer. Before long, I now have the prep lotion, infusion, and the concentrate. I ‘hate’ La Mer, but my skin loves it.
