Hello friends!
I was going to blog about a product I love today, only to find out that it’s likely discontinued. So, really, that was a waste of time wasn’t it? So, after humming and hawing, and taking a suggestion from my friend Tine, I decided to share a quick, short video.
Basically, I’ve made a small little change in my lifestyle that I don’t really want to shout about, because it’s really small, but it’s a start for me. One small step for PB, one hopefully major change in life! 🙂
What I’ve been doing is hitting the gym. I’ve spent my whole life so far avoiding the gym and the machines. I used to call people who run on treadmills ‘hamsters’ and look who’s the hamster now! 😛 Never call people names ok? It always turns around and bites you in the butt 😛
Please don’t expect this to be a major change for me, nor am I trying to guilt anyone into doing anything. I’m also not going to show you my flab to fab transformation, because the truth is that there’s far more input than there is output LOL! 😀
For me, the treadmill is more of a way for me to work out my aggressions, rather than to really get fit, if I’m to be honest. Sweating it out feels good and helps me feel better. It’s better than feeling like I want to stab someone with a blunt fork. Oh yeah, I get those feelings 😛 So, it’s just a small little change, that I hope will do me a world of good.
And, this is just a quick video to share some quick thoughts with you.
These little “Soundbites” as I’d like to call it, is a new thing I’m sort of working on, by way of in-between proper videos. I realise I tend to be rather verbose in my videos (the way I’m verbose in my writing. I see a trend here!) and sometimes, a quick short piece might be what we need. After all, social media has trained us to have short attention spans, hasn’t it? 😛
Oh and if you’re wondering, the discontinued (or extremely hard to find) item I was going to blog about today is the Dr. LeWinn’s Line Smoothing Complex S8 Super Hydrator. I couldn’t find anymore information online on where to buy it (Australia, if you have the chance to have a look at places like Myer and Priceline) and when I checked in with Tine, she said the news is that it’s not discontinued, just hard to find. Which for me, is as good as unblog-worthy. So, I’m not going to tell you about what a wonderful product it is, and how my skin loves the hydration and smoothing effect. Instead, I’ll be trying something else, and hopefully I’ll get to that one before it too gets discontinued! LOL! 😀
I hope you have a good day ahead, and if you too have started a small lifestyle change, I’d love to hear about it, either here or in the video comments 🙂

Yay to the short videos and yay to walking! It doesn’t matter if it’s a short walk or run or a long one. Small changes are better than no changes at all. It was tough when I first started; I had a million and one excuses on why I shouldn’t get off my bum to walk. Heck I even have a dog and I didn’t want to walk her far. No wonder both of us put on so much weight! 😛
I’m not a fan of running on treadmills but I’ll be hitting the gym come summer because it’s going to be so hot running outside. Treadmills screw up my sense of balance and each time I get off the treadmill, the world spins and my legs turn to jelly (even after I’ve slowed the conveyor belt way down to the point where if I don’t stop walking, I’d fall off). But when no choice, then no choice lor, what to do?
I like to listen to podcasts or audio books when I walk. It’s less boring and I learn something. 🙂
Best of luck! TAMBAH MINYAK! 😀

Thanks for the encouragement Tine! I tried running but nope! LOL So brisk walking it shall be 😀 I actually look forward to it these days. Helps me get through the day, knowing I have that half hour zoning out by myself. I’ve also started listening to podcasts so that helps the time pass as well. Oh and yes, when the treadmill stops, I have to wait a bit before getting off or I’d fall. It’s weird!

Oh yes the Dr. LeWinn’s Line Smoothing Complex S8 Super Hydrator. I love what this product does to my skin. Its true that it is extremely hard to find this even in Australia. It is always out of stock. I have my sister staying in Perth who is constantly been told to look out for this, yet she had no success!

It’s so good right? But I tried to find info on its availability and there’s none online! Goodness. I even got someone to check with the PR to be told that it’s still available just hard to find. Like erm… hello? How about making it more accessible then? 😛 But I’m going to try something else now. Can’t be putting my hopes on a product that’s hard to find!

My small lifestyle change was to try to cook at home. We used to eat out every meal on weekend. But now i try to cook at least one meal at home. And my kids love it (and im not even a good cook!) It might be less costly and easier to eat out (I find eating at hawker stall or the kopishop with many stalls much cheaper than eat in), but the joy is my children loves cooking (aka playing) in the kitchen. and I know whats been put into the food that goes into their tummy.
Keep up the good work of hitting the gym. Dont care what other say la (referring to the hamster comment).. no need to compete with others. You are your biggest challenge.
Paris B says
Yay for home cooking so keep it up Jannie! 😀 While I tend to agree with you about the ease and convenience and cost of eating out, it’s always so much healthier to eat in and know what goes into our food. Also, I know I buy better quality ingredients, and sometimes you just don’t know what goes into the food outside! After all, they have a bottom line too right? 🙂 Thanks for the encouragement. I’m the one still calling myself a hamster, except I laugh at it a lot less now. Beats not doing anything right? 🙂

I’m currently taking a break from my workout. Like Kevin Zahri once told us in a fitness seminar (part of our company’s healthy programme two, three years ago), we need to take a break 😀 It’s also sort of my reset button and time for me to think. Sounds like oxymoron – time to think?!! Does that mean I never use my brain? LOL But I think, after a period of same routine, we need to stop to take a deep breath, relax and spend quality time to think of things that have passed and what we are looking forward in future, sort of evaluate and reset the Plan A – Z 😀
Anyhow, after this, I’m starting a new routine, primary focus on my sleep. My “time to think” made me realized and also did some reading/video watching that getting good sleep is important. Between having enough sleep and getting sweaty from exercise, better focus on good rest for body to recover and heal. Yes, exercises do help with good sleep but if you have crappy 4 hours sleep every night, workouts just making the body more exhausted. My problem is I keep falling asleep outside my bedroom (thanks to lying on comfy sofa after dinner, a very bad habit, haha) then have to wake up to move into my bedroom.
Last night, I watched a good video from Kevin Zahri from his facebook page (yeah, that’s my favourite personal trainer, hehe). He discussed about an article that said night workout is bad. From what I understood, he said that if the whole day you have very stressful day and not managing it properly then at night, you do exercise (different type of stress – physical), your body can’t cope with all those stress and start to breakdown and not recover as it suppose to do. Hence, it’s bad to workout at night. However, if you manage your stress properly, it should be ok to do night workout. The gist is how well you manage your stress, whether it’s mentally or physically.
By the way, what red shoes? I think your shoes look more orange than red 😛
Paris B says
Ok, it’s an orange-red LOL! I keep calling it red for some reason. And I remember meeting Kevin Zahri once many years ago at an event. He was really funny. What was your workout like before? I’m really bad at these workout things coz I really hate sweating LOL! But now it actually feels quite good so for me, that’s a great improvement! Oh and yes, sleep is very important. Not just sleep, but quality sleep. Me, I sleep pretty early, but I don’t think I get very good quality sleep at all 🙁 Oh and you are also right about night workouts. They wake you up and make you more active. So, mine are in the evenings, just after work. I have my night routine fairly pat – dinner, some tv, then into bed with a book before lights out. I have a no digital policy for an hour or so before going to sleep and I swear it actually helps!

Before my current rest period, I had weekly (or twice a week) Ultimate training session (it was a sport playing with frisbee disk, you can google it, it’s really fun!) and jog/run at park weekly. Average, I have three days of workouts per week. But sometimes I do more Ultimate training so max I did was 5 days of workouts, it depends on our team mates who want to do throws practices 😀 The best thing about joining this sport practices is it’s surprisingly lose weight so fast (maybe because lots of sprinting chasing the disk, haha), I get to know new faces as there are always new people join the sessions and it’s a good non-medicine antidepressant 😀
Now that I know I’m being released from my job and is given Garden Leave starting 2nd November, I can have more times on training my body, haha. I still need to spend time to search vacancies but as I will spend most time with myself and no work to do (unless emergencies, get calls from office), I can start my morning cardio, maybe afternoon exercises and return to Ultimate training 😀 I hope my stomach problem will get cured before next month, dunno why there’s like something alive wriggling in my tummy, maybe still have problem with extra gastric acid, uhuh.
Good tips about the electronic. I still trying to do that but even without surfing the Internet and social network online, I still have another issue that keep disturbing my sleep: fascinating fictions to read!
p/s: the company called it Garden Leave where we have 3 months of paid leave and we can focus on looking for new jobs, how cool is that the company still looking after you after deliver the bad news LOL)
Paris B says
Oh yes I remember you telling me about your frisbee adventures! I’ve actually not seen anything similar here to be honest or maybe I’m not looking in the right places. That said, with the haze being what it is right now, being outside isn’t the best thing to do either I’m guessing. I’m sorry to hear you’ve been let go from your job, but it is nice of the company to take care of you till you leave. I hope you find one soon (if you want to that is) or are you planning to take a break for a while?

You’re already in tip-top shape so what you do in the way of exercise should be fun and engage both mind and body. Dancing fits the bill exactly. Over-the-hill me joined an all-ladies dance class (no partner required) at my club a few years ago, starting with two left feet. Now, one of my feet has turned right and I’ve mastered a repertoire of nifty dances – no, not just country-style line dances. You leave the gym drained of stress but with flushed cheeks and endorphins coursing through your veins. Win-win. It would also make you the belle of the ball at social functions if you find a good (dance) partner!
Paris B says
Aww dancing! Haha I don’t only have 2 left feet Ginny, I have 2 left feet AND no rhythmn! I was in an exercise-salsa class once and at the end of 12 weeks, I was nothing 😛 But it’s great to know you now have opposing feet that actually take you somewhere and it’s fun I’m sure! A friend of mine does the tango and I’m tempted to learn too, except well, it’s dancing! Haha 😀
Marina (Makeup4all) says
Good luck! I could have a career n sports actually (running). And I really want to start swimming soon.
Paris B says
Gosh, you must be really in good shape Marina! Running or sports and I are rarely put in the same sentence LOL! Swimming is fun. I used to swim quite regularly, but I’m trying something new now 🙂

Hey, I also made a lifestyle change by going to the gym too. It’s definitely a great way to destress. Like you, I brisk walk on the treadmill but recently, I’ve been adding a few minutes of run here and there. Feels great after the session and helps me to get rid of the “mad” feeling and the aggression too.
Btw, love the view of your gym!
Paris B says
Yay! Keep it up, Sue! Baby steps and all, and I tried “jogging” recently too. Gosh, felt like I was about to die 😛 But it feels surprisingly good doesn’t it? I actually look forward to my little time out, and now that I listen to podcasts while I walk, it isn’t so boring and time actually goes by more quickly! 😀 Yes, I’m very lucky to get a wonderful view out of the gym too 😀
Vera says
😀 Good for you! Due to health and some broken bones, I no longer do high impact exercise.
Besides swimming. So far my favourite tool is bosu ball/swedish ball. (beside the elliptic machine – which I have not touched for over 3 years in the gym! haha)
I first encountered it in the 90’s. It was a gift by a neighbor of mine who moved away.
It lasted from 90’s till 2016. 😀 easy to wash too.
It was great fun to play with and exercise the lower part of the body esp. pelvic exercise or to encourage me to sit up (tend to hunch most of the time when I work on my PC).
Even my Mom, use it to exercise her legs after long hours at the kitchen.
On days when I am down, I will just sit and bounce on it..somehow it kicks in some adrenaline & maybe coz. it’s fun.. it makes me happy again.
There’s an upcoming Health workshop, it’s free and I enjoyed some of the health tips esp. exercise shared which are beneficial for women’s health. Do check out if you want..

P/S: I liked it coz. there’s no pushy medical specialist/sales and most of the speakers are funny.
