Natural & Affordable, the Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Soy Candles offer a lovely scent for your home

April 3, 2015 Paris B 14 Comments

I think I’ve built up a bit of reputation for liking (and burning) luxury candles. Yes, I burn Diptyque and while I do so because I enjoy the scents, I am aware that they are incredibly expensive. I’ve had people tell me I might as well just set some bank notes alight; which is true in a sense, except that a) burning bank notes don’t give off a lovely scent and b) they don’t last as long 😀

But recently, surrounded as I am with my trappings of luxury, I’ve found myself reaching more and more often for an affordably priced candle, that does a lovely job of scenting my living room and doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg (nor provoke discussions of burning banknotes).

The candles in question are the Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Soy Candles, and I can’t remember now who sicced me onto them (I think it was someone on Twitter – thank you!) but I picked up a couple from iHerb and I love them! Hey, for under RM40, what’s there not to love eh? 😀

The only problem I can find with these candles is that they are pretty heavy, so shipping them here can cost a pretty penny. Singapore seems to get better iHerb shipping deals so if you have friends or family there, and aren’t in a hurry to get your items, it’s worth considering sending your packages there.

So I don’t ship a whole bunch of Mrs. Meyer’s candles, I just order 1 each time, and then pad other purchases around it to make up the regular airmail shipping. Unless DHL is on offer, I don’t pick DHL because it’s so much more expensive.

But coming back to the candles 🙂

The Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day candles are soy candles that come in a jar with a screw on cap. It isn’t pretty the way many candles are, but it is practical, because the cap helps keep the scent better and after you’re done with your candle, you could use the jars for keeping other serviceable things in the kitchen, especially if you’ve rinsed it out well.

What I like about these candles is how strong the throw of scent is. It very easily scents my whole living room where I place them, without any effort at all! Most of my luxury candles struggle to fill this space with scent, which often disappoints me.

One jar can also last a fairly long while – a 35 hours claim. I find that the soy candles melt quite quickly so it results in an even burn without my having to burn it for too long. I haven’t had any issues with the Mrs. Meyer’s candles so far in terms of uneven burn and that again, is something to commend because one or two of my luxury candles have that problem.

I have 3 scents so far:-

  • Geranium – Strong, if you like the scent of geranium, and very soothing. It scents the whole house quite quickly and I often burn it for about an hour and then blow it out. The scent remains thereafter.
  • Lavender – Not my favourite. The lavender scent smells artificial so it’ll be quite a chore to use this one up.
  • Iowa Pine – A seasonal candle which was a gift from Tine. It has a lovely warm, spicy pine scent and immediately makes you think of Christmas.

There are another 2 permanent scents – Basil and Lemon Verbena, which I’ll probably get the next time I do an iHerb order.

However I do have one more comment. The candles don’t seem to burn all the way so there is about 1cm of wax left that I can’t get to, because the wick doesn’t go all the way down. You can see it in the Geranium jar above. There’s still quite a lot of wax down there, but I can’t get it to burn. It’s quite a waste because I love the scent so if you have ideas on how I can deal with it, please let me know!

IN A NUTSHELL

The Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Soy Candles are affordable natural soy candles that come in fairly natural smelling scents. I like how they burn evenly and give off a good scent throw so a fairly small jar scents a large room quite easily. The scents I have smell good, to me. They smell clean and refresh the air of the room. I’d pick up more of these any day, except that they come in glass jars so it is quite heavy to ship.

PROS: Good scent throw, Clean and natural scents,

CONS: Heavy to ship overseas, The wick doesn’t go all the way to the base of the candle so there is a lot of wax at the bottom that can’t be melted

WHO WILL LIKE THIS: Anyone who enjoys burning scented candles, Anyone who wants an affordable scented candle that smells natural with a good scent throw

Have you tried Mrs. Meyer’s Soy candles?

I like how affordable they are, and I wish it was easier to get hold of them where I am. So if you are in the US, really, you have no excuse not to 😛 If you’ve tried any of the other scents, please let me know which your fave is!

I adore Mrs Meyer’s Clean Day candles. I’ve tried almost all of them (just haven’t tried the Verbena one yet. I agree; I love lavender scents but this is probably the worst I’ve smelled. Very artificial and not like proper lavender scents at all. Iowa Pine is by far my favourite of the lot.

After finishing the candles, I keep them to store things. I have a couple of jars in my bathroom holding cotton pads and buds.

If the wick has burned off, then you won’t be able to burn the candle any more. What I’d do is heat the jar up in a pot of boiling water and either pour the liquid wax into a mould or a fragrance burner. It’s okay for it to set because when you use a tealight with the burner, it will melt and you’ll be able to use up the remaining wax. No wastage this way. 🙂

Ya man, that Lavender one was such a bum. I was quite upset about it coz I thought it would be as good as the Geranium one. If I had known it was so bad, I’d have used it up first 😛 Thanks for the tip to use it like a tart! I’ll do that with the Geranium one, but once I’m done with the Lavender (if ever!) I’ll just get rid of it. 😛

Oh this one sounds good 🙂 Now, I wonder if we have to pay GST for these online purchases…

Methinks it was Tine who got you started on these candles 😉 She got me started on these candles too! I’ve only tried one – Lavender and it was yuck yuck (in the words of my 3yo nephew when staring at a bowl of avocado). I think I’ll try other warmer scents now that the cooler days are here 🙂 I use the jars too to store cotton pads and cotton buds. Some I use to hold costume jewelry (encased in their protective cases stacked in the jar) One day, when I get more space, I’d use those jars as a storage and decorative piece 🙂

PS- I think whoever who compared burning a Diptyque with burning bank notes is extremely crass.

Tine got me the Iowa Pine one but I remember it was someone else on Twitter. But whoever it was, it’s a great buy! 😀 Oh and like your nephew, I think avocado is yuck yuck too 😛

Arg, how I wish I knew about these candles on Tuesday. I just ordered from iherb on Tuesday and received my stuff this morning.

Nope, no GST is levied on my purchase. And the shipping charge by DHL is really affordable now. There is a 25% discount on shipment and my shipment cost come to only USD8. Hope this will be a permanent discount. I just tried to order 5 of these candles on iherb and the shipping cost is only USD8.96!The purchase must hit USD40 though which really isn’t hard.

So go grab the candles now. Heck,I should have added on this product as my purchase was really light and I decided to buy sriracha sauce to maximise the price I paid for shipment, haha.

Oh dear oops! But you can KIV this for your next iHerb order 😀 I got my order by DHL recently too and yes, they do seem to have dropped the DHL prices somewhat, which is great! There was only a $1 difference between airmail and DHL for me so naturally I opted for DHL LOL No brainer right? 😉

sounds good 😀 i recently got Bath and Beauty Works candles as they are cheaper than diptyque and Jo Malone but the scent is definitely not as refined. Been itching to splurge on a Jo Malone candle for sometime but they are just so pricy so will definitely try the Mrs Meyer candles out, thanks for the heads up!

I haven’t tried BBW candles because the one time I walked into the store, I got a headache 😛 I haven’t tried Jo Malone candles, but Diptyque candles seem to work for me best in a small room. Not so well in larger areas unless you get a giant candle. These do the job well and aren’t expensive, so it’s worth trying! Just don’t get Lavender 😛

For the base I think the key is the Nars setting powder which is basically a silica powder. Many brands have similar white powder for setting. I did this same look yesterday and it barely budged/faded by evening. Only lipstick needed a little topping up 😊

Posting for posterity because I like this photo 😆 Also hello! 😜

It’s interesting that when I meet people they always ask me “Are you still blogging?” which tells me they don’t read my blog anymore (cos if they did they’d know I am lol! Weekly generally, but still writing) Yet I don’t blame them because a lot of social credit is placed on one’s Instagram presence. This I fear, is an area I am lacking. I pop in every now and then, share stories that are totally unrelated to what people follow me for, then wonder why they unfollow lol! Other times, spider webs gather in the corners of my unused account. I don’t blame them. Not everyone wants to know what my dogs are up to 😜

Anyway I make no apologies. It’s ok if you follow. It’s ok if you don’t. It’s ok if you’re interested in stuff I do. It’s ok if you’re not. Life goes on for both you and I and ultimately, we just both want it to be happy. So do what makes you happy 😊 I’ll still share my beauty finds and I still blog once a week. I may share what I’m up to from time to time, or I may not. I can tell you that I’m keeping busy and that I have a lot on my plate, none of it glamorous unlike that of most content creators/influencers. It’s too boring for most for me to share here so I’ll just share the good bits - as Instagram intended 😂

But if you want to find me, you’ll know how 😊

The review for the product is somewhere on the blog mywomenstuff.com
Yes I know many of you are terrified of lizards 🦎🫣

But I liked this sunscreen - for the body. Even though it left a white cast. Even though it is hard to remove. It kept my arms protected through a weekend of brutal sun exposure and I survived without burning! ✌🏻
