Hello friends!
The Lunar New Year is upon us very soon (19th February 2015, if you’re wondering) and this year heralds the year of the Goat/Ram/Sheep. I say Goat/Ram/Sheep, because I’m not quite sure what it is. I’m gunning for Goat because they look smarter to me, and goodness knows, sheep don’t exactly look clever do they? 😛
As I do at this time of year, I take a short break on MWS. I know, I just took an extended break not too long ago didn’t I? But it’s tradition and what’s the Chinese New Year without a bit of tradition eh? I admit to being a bit of a traditionalist 😉
Last year, I showed you what I usually get up to in the lead up to the Chinese New Year celebrations but this year, I’ve been a little more slack. I’m only just starting to look for my mandarin oranges and my home doesn’t have a scrap of gaudy red and gold decorations yet. Tsk! I’m slipping!
What I did do over the weekend was purchase some snacks – you can’t get through CNY without gorging on deep fried crackers and goodies, I swear. I always end the festive season with a face full of spots and a thicker waistline, but I guess that’s the price of doing nothing and eating all day long haha! 😀
Whatever you do, wherever you go and wherever you are, I wish you a safe and wonderful celebration. I’ll be back next week, but if you get really bored or curious about what I’m up to:-
- there’s the Archives with over 3000 posts to whet your appetite if you want something to read; or
- you can sign up for the MWS newsletter (if you haven’t already done so – what d’ya mean you didn’t know about it?! 😛 ) Here’s the February newsletter that you missed!; or
- check out my account on Instagram where we celebrate beauty in everything – predominantly in food LOL! But there’ll also be some upcoming beauty & makeup previews I’ll share over the break.
Above all, I wish every single one of you a happy and prosperous Year of the Goat and may you have a baa-ll of a time 😀
xoxo

Hello Paris! I feel like I’ve been MIA from your blog for many months. I still read the blog on my iPad but i’m too lazy to type comments through the touchscreen. :p This year I didn’t go back to my parents’ for CNY. And I had been thinking, if I don’t start introducing the simple praying ritual (table laid out with fruits, incence sticks and candles) routine myself, my children will loose the Chinese culture forever. So I got some red table cloth, some decorative stuff, and I did a simple praying ritual with my family here. Not sure if my kids understand why we did this, but if I continue every year only during CNY, surely they understand eventually what’s it for, right? I only explained to them that the ritual is for remembering and paying respect to their loved ones who had passed away. 🙂
For makeup wise, I wore a RED lipstick (called China Red from Make Up Store… so chinese huh?!) and a RED linen trouser to work . With a champagne silk top (don’t think I’d dare to go topless!!?). 🙂 The red lips really put me in a festive mood. 😀
How about you? Did you have a good celebration? xxx
Haha I did wonder where you’d gone off to, but I figured it happens. Life gets in the way, as I always say 😀 I think you’re doing the right thing keeping traditions alive. I know people think it’s old-fashioned, or overly traditional in these modern times, but I feel sometimes, we need to keep some cultural elements alive or we’d all fade into a homogenous culture, and then where’s the fun in that right? 😀 Did you have a break over CNY? I”m not sure how widely celebrated it is in Thailand, but I hope you had a nice break anyway. It’s back to the grind for everyone now the celebrations are over!
I am quite conservative in some sense. Without tradition we will be nothing. :p haha. Well CNY celebration is quite popular here. Lots of Thai-Chinese you know. 🙂 And this year I happened to be around China Town (Yaowarat) for some work a lot, so I got to feel the festivity much more than years before. 🙂 You wondered where I’d gone off to? That means you missed me? Awwww…. I miss exchanging comments with you too! 😀 xx
Haha I’m pretty conservative myself too actually and I love traditions. Also because I can be superstitious too LOL 😀 Sigh, I’m itching to go back to Bangkok. I usually go down to Yaowarat as well – never been there before/during CNY though! And yes, of course I missed you! I sometimes wonder where some regulars disappear to but then I realise that life often gets in the way of fun so I figure that must be it 🙂
