Finish makeup? You have to be kidding right?!
I can just see that running through the minds of all you makeup afficionados out there 😀 I can quite easily run through my favourite skincare and use it up over time, but makeup is a whole different kettle of fish. I attempted a project once a few years ago, where I only used 1 eyeshadow and 1 blush for a whole month and I barely made a dent in them, much less come close to finishing it.
As much as we like to complain about how little product we get with makeup items for the price we pay, the fact is that we only use very little each time. The product we would use the most would be foundation and that usually runs out more quickly. Not so for me, because I have a ton that I cycle through, but for the majority, foundation is the item that runs out the quickest. Colour products are rarer.
But you know what? I actually have recently finished (or at least practically finished) 2 makeup items very recently, including one colour product, and that makes me kind of proud, in a perverse sort of way 😛 Have you finished any makeup item recently and if so, are you repurchasing or was it just a one off thing?
The first item I finished was the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. I love it so much, I was using it practically everyday! Although I was just dabbing it on, each dab takes you a little closer to the finish line. The problem however, is that it’s quite hard to tell when it’s finished, because the texture is a little thick and so it sticks to the walls of the clear plastic at the bottom half of the tube.
I realised it was nearing the end, when the sponge applicator came out of the tube looking fairly drier each time I used it. I can still pick up the remnants if I twiddle the applicator around the inside of the tube, but it’s practically done with. I do have my back up on standby already. That’s how much I love it! 😀
The other item I recently practically finished is this Dior Addict lipstick in Icone. Let me tell you that it’s been years since I finished a lipstick so it was very surprising for me one day to twist up the lipstick only to find it would go no further. I had reached the end! Icone is a very wearable daily colour that I keep in my makeup pouch in my bag and tote it about everywhere I go. On days when I want a slightly more toned down rose-red lip, I reach for Icone. When I have a little stain on my lips from brighter lipstick shades, I boost the colour with Icone. When my lips feel dry, I slick a layer of Icone over, because the Dior Addict formula is so lovely and moisturising.
I’m still using it as much as I can and will probably dig out the remainder with a lip brush but it has been ages since I saw the end of a lipstick tube. I don’t have a back up of Icone, but I do have a lot of other shades in the Dior Addict lipstick line I can use so perhaps I’ll find another daily fave there that will see me use it till the end too! 😀
Have you finished a makeup product recently? Was it a colour item?
I don’t forsee myself finishing any more makeup for a while, so I’ll just bask in this ‘achievement’ for a while LOL! But let’s hear about you! Have you finished a makeup product and are you repurchasing if you did?

Most of my blushes and eyeshadows are mineral makeup powders, and those last for.freaking.ever. I have enough makeup for a lifetime!
I did finish a lovely golden brown lipstick recently…but I’d had that for close to three years.
Paris B says
Oh yes, mineral powders never die (which is both a good and bad thing haha!) I think for most of us, our makeup will outlive us 😛

Welcome back! It’s lovely to see your posts again. ^^ And eeeeeh, I’ve probably never finished any make-up in my life; once it gets to the itty bitty bits left, I start to….hoard. I can’t even fully explain why, I just do.
Paris B says
Hi Esther, thank you, it’s good to be back! 😀 Do you mean you use them up till the last bits then stop? That’s unique haha… maybe you’re afraid you can’t find a replacement?

I’ve just finished up my Burberry Fresh Glow. Usually I’ll finished up base products and eye liners. But come to blushers, lip products and eyeshadows? Rarely ever. I’ve touched pan with my Guerlain Ecrin 6 Couleurs Eye Shadow in 29 recently. Perhaps I should get another palette. I love this range to bits and bits.
Paris B says
Ooh yes I’m with you on the Guerlain Ecrin 6 palettes. I started out not really liking them but I’m now in love with them! It was all about knowing how to use them properly and they’re amazing. Kudos for hitting pan! Mine look barely touched 😛
Tine @ Beautyholics Anonymous says
OMG I can’t even remember the last time I actually finished one full makeup item! Thinking…thinking….still thinking. Nope, can’t remember. Oh this is bad!
Paris B says
LOL! i’m sure you have, a powder or foundation? Nope?
Tine @ Beautyholics Anonymous says
Errrrrrrrr …. errmmm …. well, the last time I actually hit pan and *almost* finished a MAC powder was 5 years ago? 😛
Petrina says
I’ve actually finished quite a few items in 2014!
– suqqu blush
– guerlain meteorites UV shield compact
– ysl glossy stain in #29 two tubes!!!
I’ve never finished a foundation bottle as I don’t use it often enough!
Paris B says
2 tubes of the same gloss! You really like it Petrina 😀 and you finished a blush! Taking my hat off to you!
kel says
Nars creamy concealer!! *hi5* haha
And Kate powerless foundation
Paris B says
YAY for the Nars concealer! Did you repurchase? 😀 Oh I’d always been curious about that Kate foundation – any good? 😛
Philippe says
Oh I know the feeling of getting a tube or jar empty with skincare/haircare.It\’s the satisfying feeling of YES I can get something new, or booo if it\’s a favorite (expensive).
Paris B says
YES! I’m always deathly afraid of finishing good (expensive) skincare because it means I’d have to break my bank to get another. Or actually, in my case, I have to plan ahead because odds are, it came from overseas LOL
ana @champagnegirlsabouttown says
I’ve only ever finished two products- Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow powder which I bulk buy coze I’m burn throuh it in 2 months flat, and Dior Glow balm/lipstick. As for others products- I cannot resist the call of a new shiny thing!

Paris B says
Wow you must really love the Chanel powder 😉 Do you use it as a setting powder or on its own?
Jennifer says
I always finish my compact powder, most likely because I only use one brand and open one at a time even if I have other brands in my stash. Minimizes my decision fatigue but also minimized my opportunity to try other brands.
Paris B says
I used to be the same when I was using powder foundation. I’d run through a whole pan in about 2 months. But since I stopped (and started being more fickle) days of finishing things are few and far between 😉

These are items I manage to finish in 2014.
Diorsnow UV Shield SPF 50
(Does sunscreen count as makeup product)
Dior BB cream
Dior Lip glow
Dior Lip Maximizer
RMK Kaleidoscope Nuance Color Powder 01 use as finishing power
I wish I can get a back up for the RMK KALEUDISCOPE Nuance color powder.
Paris B says
Ooh yes, that RMK powder was amazing wasn’t it? I still use it as a finishing powder – so nice! I’d count sunscreen as a skincare but then that’s me 😉 But good on you for finishing the Dior BB – I find I use so little of it I haven’t made a hefty dent in mine >.<
HapaGirl says
Welcome back! So happy to be reading new posts from you. I have a secret love for \”empties\” – I used to work at a retailer thst collected and recycled these, so I got in the habit of piling up my empties so I could proudly recycle them. The last makeup item I finished entirely was…oh dear, probably just some concealer, mascara, and eyeshadow primer. I did finish a blush and bronzer once (NARS Laguna/Orgasm duo) and an eyeshadow from a palette that was an Estée Lauder GWP.
Paris B says
It’s good to be back Hapagirl, thank you! 😀 Your mention of empties just reminded me that I haven’t emptied anything in a while. I know I’ve been diligent in my skincare use, which makes me wonder why none of them seem to be finishing! magic! haha
Philippe says
I’m not above using a lot more than required just to get it finished. Especially hair products I really slather on twice, thrice! Double cleansing my face just to get through the cleansers (getting the benefit too haha) and massaging my face with facial oil cause I can! It’s free stuff anyway so I’m a spoiled guy, hands in my hair usually thinking how I’ll use stuff up. Serum those feet I have done 😛
Paris B says
Now those must be some really well pampered feet, Phil! I do see your point though and I sometimes do it with facial oils, not to finish it up, but for a nice facial massage and mask. So luxurious!
Kuri says
Gosh, I can hardly make a dent in my makeup either! Just using up foundation samples can be challenging.
Right now I am digging out the remnants of a Calvin Klein lipstick – I wish I’d be done with it already but I guess I don’t reapply enough during the day. Also, I’m almost to the end of a red Media lip liner. I have a wine colored version to be used up after that.
I’ve given up on most of my eye and cheek makeup though, and I don’t lik any of my base makeup enough to use it quickly, so lip products are the only area I have hope for.
Paris B says
You know what? I wonder if this is just a lament of us beauty loving folk. I’m sure the regular woman out there has no problem finishing her makeup eh? 😀
Tubbs says
I’ve finished foundation, powder and concealer, bit not much else. I’m trying to buy less so I use up with the expirary date rather than have to toss it. All I need now is for companies to stop making such lovely new products!
Paris B says
Hahahaha all our problems, Tubbs! Darned companies – always tempting us with new pretties!
Victoria says
I have actually finished up quite a few lipsticks over the last 2-3 months. Its funny because they all finished up around the same time and I had to repurchase them again because I was comfortable with the colours. Among them was Dior Addict lipstick called Fashion Week and 2 Shiseido Perfect Rogue lipsticks. My Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Roomiest Rose is about to finish too and I am definitely repurchasing this. I bought this solely based on your blog post about it last year and its a lovely colour on me 🙂
Paris B says
Finished AND repurchased! Good job! 😀 I’d never heard of the Dior Addict Fashion Week! I looked it up and it’s a pretty colour! I can see why you repurchased 😀 Oh and Roomiest Rose is lovely right? I might make it my next one to finish because it too is very versatile 🙂
Wojis says
The best most beautyful lipgloss ever, the little brush can’t reach the product anymore. Shiseido lipgoss and you guessed it, it’s not available anymore. Well, time to find another go to lipgloss. I almost finished my Chanel primer, already looking for a new one. Thinkin about the new Chanel primer or the Dior primer. And I finished a nailpolish, the texture is off and the brush couldn’t reach very well anymore.
Paris B says
Aww you reminded me that I do have a Shiseido lipgloss and you’re right, it’s lovely! Isn’t it a pity when brands discontinue colours? But I guess that forces us to explore other brands/colours and maybe find a new love. And you finished a nail polish! You know, you’re the first person I’ve known who managed to. Yay!

Dior Capture Totale RADIANCE RESTORING SERUM FOUNDATION. I really like it. I just switched to Chanel Vitalumiere compact douceur, and did bought the CC cream too, but… i am not sure whether i like the glow look > . < and i regret that i should have take the natural color of the Vitalumiere instead of more to rose color… maybe have to give away to my sister T-T
Paris B says
Ooh I’d been curious about the Dior Capture Totale foundations! Now you have me interested to check them out 😛 I didn’t like the Chanel CC Cream unfortunately. Thought it was just blah 😛
Tracy Ho says
We are spoilt for choices of foundation, BB cream or CC cream. I have to be more discipline to finish one before go to try any new one. 🙂
Paris B says
Haha for me it’s a fail because I’m just so fickle 😛 Sometimes, I like a lighter coverage and sometimes I prefer a heavier one so it’s always how I feel when I wake up in the morning 😉
jk says
Basic (not the bronzing/special glowing type) face powder – loose or compact, I actually finish one before I move on to the next. I finished my CD loose powder, then checked out the compact, finished that and went back to CD loose powder. Waiting to finish that before I venture to check out the NARS finishing powder which I picked up after reading the blog of a certain who went on a hiatus for a bit last year.
Lipsticks, I do eventually get around to finishing my favourite shades. Dior Addict’s nude when it came out some time back got used till it flatlined. That started me off on nude lipsticks.
Have not as at todate, finished to the utter end, a single shade of eyeshadow.
Paris B says
You’re so disciplined! Ever since I stopped using powder compact foundation, I’ve not finished any foundation. Otherwise I used to be quite good at using up pans and pans of foundation, never mind that the shades were often off. Ah those were the days! Oh and if it makes you feel better, the Nars light reflecting powder is different from regular loose powder. So it’s perfectly justifiable to have both 😛
