Your Say: What was the last makeup product you finished?

January 8, 2015 Paris B 79 Comments

Finish makeup? You have to be kidding right?!

I can just see that running through the minds of all you makeup afficionados out there 😀 I can quite easily run through my favourite skincare and use it up over time, but makeup is a whole different kettle of fish. I attempted a project once a few years ago, where I only used 1 eyeshadow and 1 blush for a whole month and I barely made a dent in them, much less come close to finishing it.

As much as we like to complain about how little product we get with makeup items for the price we pay, the fact is that we only use very little each time. The product we would use the most would be foundation and that usually runs out more quickly. Not so for me, because I have a ton that I cycle through, but for the majority, foundation is the item that runs out the quickest. Colour products are rarer.

But you know what? I actually have recently finished (or at least practically finished) 2 makeup items very recently, including one colour product, and that makes me kind of proud, in a perverse sort of way 😛 Have you finished any makeup item recently and if so, are you repurchasing or was it just a one off thing?

The first item I finished was the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. I love it so much, I was using it practically everyday! Although I was just dabbing it on, each dab takes you a little closer to the finish line. The problem however, is that it’s quite hard to tell when it’s finished, because the texture is a little thick and so it sticks to the walls of the clear plastic at the bottom half of the tube.

I realised it was nearing the end, when the sponge applicator came out of the tube looking fairly drier each time I used it. I can still pick up the remnants if I twiddle the applicator around the inside of the tube, but it’s practically done with. I do have my back up on standby already. That’s how much I love it! 😀

The other item I recently practically finished is this Dior Addict lipstick in Icone. Let me tell you that it’s been years since I finished a lipstick so it was very surprising for me one day to twist up the lipstick only to find it would go no further. I had reached the end! Icone is a very wearable daily colour that I keep in my makeup pouch in my bag and tote it about everywhere I go. On days when I want a slightly more toned down rose-red lip, I reach for Icone. When I have a little stain on my lips from brighter lipstick shades, I boost the colour with Icone. When my lips feel dry, I slick a layer of Icone over, because the Dior Addict formula is so lovely and moisturising.

I’m still using it as much as I can and will probably dig out the remainder with a lip brush but it has been ages since I saw the end of a lipstick tube. I don’t have a back up of Icone, but I do have a lot of other shades in the Dior Addict lipstick line I can use so perhaps I’ll find another daily fave there that will see me use it till the end too! 😀

Have you finished a makeup product recently? Was it a colour item?

I don’t forsee myself finishing any more makeup for a while, so I’ll just bask in this ‘achievement’ for a while LOL! But let’s hear about you! Have you finished a makeup product and are you repurchasing if you did?

Wow, I don’t think I’ve finished a makeup item in my life! The closest I’ve come is to make a dent in one of my powder foundations but it still had some product left. And now that I’m at home a lot, I don’t really see myself finishing any makeup anytime soon.

LOL! Not even back in the day when it was just one lipstick and one blush/eyeshadow? 😀 I used to finish tons of lipstick but then I only ever had one at a time, until I realised I could have MORE THAN ONE at a time. Never looked back haha

Oh why do you have to remind me about not finishing anything. 😛

The last two makeup items that I’ve actually used up are my NARS Sheer Glow foundation and NARS Pro eyeshadow primer.

Oh oh guess what? I bought the Sheer Glow foundation FINALLY! And yes, I love it especially when paired with the Light Reflecting Powder. Awesome stuff! Now I just need to buy the pump 😛

Haha I know that feeling Peggy! The only way I could have finished this lipstick was to keep it in my bag so I have something to use whenever I need it (or when I forget to wear my lipstick while running out the door) and even then, it took me ages!

I realize that the only makeup product that I ever finish is BB Cream. Eyeshadow. omg, no way! I actually cut open the last tube of Juice Beauty CC Cream that I had to get at the remainder. Although it has the tendency to get a little shiny by midday, I like the glowy, fresh skin look that it gives. I’m not a foundation kind of girl. A little bit of pressed powder on top of BB cream and I’m ready to go. 😉

Sounds like you’ve found your perfect base! Who cares if it’s not a foundation 😀 These days, we have so many options we’re quite literally spoilt for choice! Oh and I hear ya about eyeshadow. Never ever finished one in my life!

It’s been a couple of months since I’ve finished anything, but I did finish a Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeliner in taupe (my first!) and a deluxe size of the Shiseido primer (which could also classify in the category of most-likely-to-finish). I have a backup (that I haven’t opened yet) of the eyeliner, but definitely won’t be purchasing the primer (it was sooooo bad).

BB cream. And some people consider that skincare haha. But well, yes, I’ve just finished my Shu Uemura Stage Performer BB cream. And my Guerlain Lingerie de Peau BB is almost gone too. Of course you know which I’ll repurchase. 😀

I used up my Nars Deep Throat blush that I bought in late 2010 recently. Parting with it made me rather sad.

I had to throw out my Dior Addict in Diorkiss last month because it smelt and tasted off too. *Sighs* That was my aunt’s gift to me for starting Uni too

Wow! You finished a blush! :O The closest I ever got was to finish MOST of the blush but there was still a lot of product around the empty pan. Gosh, those were the days 😀 Sorry to hear that about your Diorkiss. It’s such a pretty colour! But that’s the risk with lip/cream products. Never know when they’ll go bad so not a good idea to hoard them 😉

More than a couple of items actually!
    1. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation
    2. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation
    3. NARS Pro primer
    4. La Mer loose powder – I know, actually finished a loose powder!

Things that are sort of on the way out to being finished – Chantecaille Future Skin foundation, Benefit Dandelion (I think this is my 5th box) and NARS Sex Appeal blush 🙂

DOES THAT MEAN I CAN BUY MORE MAKEUP? 🙂

I participated in Project Make A Dent last year with a few other bloggers, and it was good to be able to use up a few stuff. Mascaras aside, I finished 2 eye pencils, a powder foundation, Dior Lip Glow and Dior Lip Maximizer. I doubt I’ll be using up any eye shadows or blushes in my life though. So, I won’t even try. I did hit pan on one blush though so that’s an accomplishment in itself already. LOL!

I finished my NARS Sheer Glow foundation and it made me sad. I didn’t know whether to get the Dior Skin Nude or the Tarte Amazonian Clay so I got the Benefit Hello Flawless foundation instead bcs I was more familiar with it. Any suggestions from you though?

Ooh and I just bought the Nars Sheer Glow! I love it 😛 I haven’t tried the Tarte one but it was because I’m afraid it would be too drying for me. I personally love the Diorskin Nude and I’m ambivalent about the Benefit Hello Flawless. Are you liking it though?

I think I go through my BB cushions pretty fast, repurchase every 3 months, esp loveeee the Laneige pore control BB cushions haha! Other than BB cushions/creams, I guess I do finish up eyeliners and eyebrow pencils fairly frequent too. Recently, I finished one of my Stila Stay All Day liquid eyeliner in black and Rimmel Exaggerate Auto Waterproof eyeliner in plum.

As for eyeshadows and blushes, I don’t think I will be able to make a dent anytime soon, probably never! lol =p

Good point about BB Cushions, Jo. I’ve only tried one by Laneige and that dried out pretty quickly! You know, I do my brows almost daily but I still have my very first eyebrow pencil. How on earth?! I don’t even know LOL! 😀 Good job on finishing up a few items – it means you can go ahead and get more hehe…

For me, when I used to wear power and translucent powder. I used up one of each. I used them everyday, so as you mentioned, they were the first to be used up.
I’ve used up a gloss or two also.

As of late, I have not been wearing much makeup at all. I use up skincare items more so lately. I’m slowly working my way through some lipsticks. Hoping to finish at least one within… the next year. But I go through bouts of either wearing nothing or I switch between a handful of colours. So unless I stick with one and use it everyday, I won’t be finishing off any of my lipsticks anytime soon.

That’s what I do Joann. I keep one versatile colour in my portable makeup pouch. I end up using it quite often because I often apply my lipstick in the car or while going out the door and often don’t change my lip colour from day to day. Oh and reapply. That’s one surefire way to ensure you finish or at least make a dent in your lipstick 😉

I am 99.9% convinced that tales of people finishing up their makeup items are just a myth haha.

One of my resolutions this year is to use up at least 3 colour makeup products that I have like blushes and eyeshadows because they never seem to finish. I also wanna finish up some foundations and concealers but those are harder cos they never seem to look quite right on me. I have a feeling I’m gonna be stepping out of the house with some weird looking makeup looks this year LOL.

The truth is that I cannot remember ever finishing a colour product! Honestly! Chances are that I will substitute it for something better before I am finished with it!

I think that the closest I have been to finishing a pan was with one of those 28 neutral shades palettes. When I was first getting into makeup I bought one of those as a cheap way of getting to know make up and what colours suited me best. When I got rid of it I had hit pan on two of the shades!

And yeah, I agree that we moan a bit about the content of products when in fact we rarely finish them!

That happens to me with lipsticks. I try to work on one for a while but I tend to get bored or tired of the texture so I really have to love it before I can actually commit to using one daily 🙂 All the temptation of new or better products don’t help at all do they?

I honestly can’t remember when I last finished any makeup item. I’m pretty sure I’ve finished a foundation anyway! Congratulations on finishing a lipstick, I don’t know when or if I’ll ever finish one. Just a couple of days ago my mom told me that she needed a new lipstick because “there’s so little product, I finish them all the time!”. She definitely doesn’t have as many as I do 😀
