Getting Selfie-ready in 10 minutes with Laura Mercier (And a chance to win with @LauraMercierMY)

Earlier this week, I confessed that I tend to wander around on off days without makeup. But you know, in this age of selfies and easy access to high quality cameras in mobile phones, sometimes that just isn’t a good idea. Especially more so if you’re with friends and then someone whips out their swanky new phone and says “Hey guys, let’s take a groupfie! I want to share it on Instagram!” and before you can unfurrow your brow and wonder “What on earth is a groupfie?!” the photo is taken and uploaded to Instagram and oh dear, you look all washed out and no amount of filters will help you! 😛

If I know I’ll be out with company, I sometimes put on some very simple makeup, just to even out skin tone and define features. Sometimes, this forms the basis of a casual workday face too. And for this purpose, I often turn to some easy tools from Laura Mercier which aren’t only easy, they’re importantly quick to assemble! Let me show you what I use to get a selfie-ready face 😀 (psst! There’s a very easy Instagram contest at the end of the post to enter to win their famed tinted moisturiser for a year!)

The thing about cameras is that they can tend to accentuate flaws and uneven skintone. So, to even out my skintone and as a light base, I like to go with the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser. It is lightweight and although coverage is similarly light, it does a good job to even out my skintone. Before the popularity of BB and CC Creams, tinted moisturisers were the thing and of all the tinted moisturisers I’ve tried, I still go back to Laura Mercier. Have been since the day I tried it!

Because it’s so light in coverage, all it does for me is even out redness in my skin but doesn’t do much to make it look clear and flawless. So, for parts that need concealing, I opt for the Undercover Pot which is a dinky little all in one concealer pot for blemishes and undereye and even setting powder. This way, you don’t end up needing or using a very thick base which is great for light makeup days or weekends.

A cream blush in a pink or coral usually rounds off my look to add a pop of rosy freshness to the cheeks (makes you look younger!) although I do find that wearing a slightly stronger colour helps it show up better in photos.

When I’m feeling adventurous, I use an eye colour where I swear by the Caviar Sticks for lazy days. The great thing about the caviar sticks cream shadow is that you can use the lighter shades as a soft eye colour, just to brighten the eye area, or if you own the darker shades, use it to line your eyes and then smudge it out a little to soften the look.

When you take pictures, having eye liner on helps define your eyes and make them stand out and more visible as opposed to not wearing anything on your eyes. Oh and define your brows. It helps frame your face better especially in photos and especially in lower resolution cameras or poor lighting.

Don’t forget a lip colour to avoid looking washed out and tada! You have a selfie ready face that you can put together in 10 minutes or less. Or in a rushed morning, this is something to whip up very quickly and easily so you don’t look like death warmed over when you arrive at the office.  Trust me on this one! You don’t even need tools, just fingers will do to quickly dab, swipe and pat everything on and blend. If I can do it, you bet, all of you can do! 😀

Thanks and yes, I timed myself. 10 minutes just about did it. Maybe a few seconds more to slick on a lip 😀 The blush is the Laura Mercier cream blush in Sunrise and the Lips was a Guerlain lipstick (I can’t remember which now, sorry!)

It definitely looks like you spent much more than 10 minutes getting this selfie look ready! I agree that for a quick look, if you can apply all products with your fingers, it will save a ton of time. You have such a flawless face….I envy you! For me, since I usually have one or two mountains to cover, I like to use pressed powder foundations on my quick days as they are fast and easy to apply yet still help cover up those blemishes!

Thank you Jen and I can assure you 10 minutes was all it took! The caviar eye sticks are the life saver here and not having to mess with brushes help a lot too 🙂 I suppose I’m lucky that my acne phase has passed *touched wood* but I still work with concealers because I now battle dark eye circles and pigmentation. It never ends right?

if you just have a few seconds just before a groupfie – quick swatch of bright lipstick.
OR if you really have nothing on hand – pinch your cheeks really hard for a nice flush lol

…… OR if that still doesn’t work, get someone to slap you lol (only kidding!)

Ohhhh I love your natural 10-min (are you sure only 10 mins?!!??) look! I’ve never used caviar stick as eyeliner, and I’m going to try that soon! So many tricks from you today! =)

Yes, I can assure you it’s 10 minutes because the Caviar Sticks take no time at all to get right! I use the caviar stick as a thick liner if it makes sense? Smudge it out and you have a very simple face, ready to go 😀
