Last week, we were discussing whether we washed our faces after going for a facial and I was quite gratified that so many of us do the same thing i.e. wash our faces when we get home. Among the most interesting discussions however, I noticed how many of us take an evening shower, which necessitates us washing our faces. And as usual, the curious cat in me perked up.
I started wondering if most of you showered in the mornings or in the evenings, or perhaps even both?
Here where it’s so hot and humid all the time, it’s tempting to shower not only twice, but maybe even three times a day! I know of people who do. So, how about you? Are you a morning showerer, evening showerer or perhaps twice a day? 😀
I can’t do without my evening shower that’s for certain. It’s not just the grime and dust and dirt you accumulate through the day, even while sitting at your desk, but also the feeling of relaxation.
Taking my evening shower allows me to figuratively wash away the stresses and cares of the day, while literally washing off the dirt and grime you pick up. Even if you stay indoors all day cooped up with air-conditioning, you are liable to sweat and excrete oils from your skin that if not washed off, can feel uncomfortable and clog pores.
After all, nothing beats stepping under a hot shower at the end of the day. I always feel more relaxed, more comfortable and more ready to wind down for the day after a nice long hot shower.
However, my morning showers are optional. I never got into the habit and I may sometimes take a shower in the morning, if it’s been an unseasonably warm night, but more often than not, I don’t. Part of the reason is because I habitually wash my hair whenever I shower and it feels weird not to, or it feels uncomfortable, and I’d rather not faff about with hair in the morning. I also am not a morning person, so I can’t bring myself to get up and exercise before the day starts, which would then necessitate a shower. Ultimately, I’m just not a morning showerer LOL 😀
So do you shower in the morning or afternoon or do you shower twice a day?
If I’m at home, I sometimes shower twice a day though. It helps me get through the day because when you’re cooped up at home in our heat and are too miserly to have the air-conditioning on all day, then a cool shower in the afternoon is a refreshing treat! 😀

Morning shower + hair wash on alternate days to wake me up. Evening to wash away the dirt … so it’s about every 12 hours once ;p

Haha just like brushing teeth! I can’t imagine anyone who doesn’t do THAT twice a day 😀

I shower at night most of the time! I feel like it washes off the day like you said and helps me to prepare for bed 🙂
sometimes I do shower during the day, like after a work out on the weekends though. 🙂

Ooh a shower after a workout makes me feel so good! But yes, definitely need to shower after a workout – all that sweat icks! 😀

Like Geek, I do mine twice a day. Minimum. It doesn’t matter how cold it is, I have to have my morning shower. I feel really gross stepping out of the house without taking one first. As for night shower, well that’s essential, isn’t it? I’m so pedantic about evening showers that say, if I take a shower at 6pm, head out for dinner or an event, come back at 8pm, I’ll still need to take another shower. It annoys the hell out of Tim because I wouldn’t allow him to come to bed unless he takes a shower (who cares if he’s already showered at 6pm, SHOWER AGAIN!). Yeah, I do have quite high water bills. Yikes.
At my parents’ home in Penang, they installed a rainwater-style shower head AND a seat in the shower. A freakin’ SEAT! If water bills aren’t so high here, I’d do the same. Oh the joy of sitting down while the water runs down your hair and back. Blisssssss.
Paris B says
Ooh I do the same thing you do i.e. shower as the last thing before bed, so even if I have showered earlier and I go out, I shower again when I get home. A more brisk shower, but I shower nonetheless! And your parents have a SEAT in their shower stall?! My goodness. I have a rainshower though and I love it. It’s one of my favourite parts of my house! 😀

Definitely a must to shower in the evening before bed. If not, you’ll be bringing all that dirt from outside into bed with you. I’ve never been able to handle morning showers though, deathly afraid of being cold. But whenever I tell people that I don’t do morning showers, they look at me like a pariah. So now I just keep it to myself…mehh… :/

The good thing, is that you now know you aren’t alone about morning showers! 😀 I know some people feel the need for it, but then everyone’s different so as long as we don’t stink I don’t see why we have to conform

I’m definitely an evening shower person. As you mentioned it’s great to be able to wash off all the dirt from the day.
I’ve discussed this with a number of friends, and a particular one, we got into a discussion over why he showered in the morning and I at night. We both thought each others habits were gross, but I was most repulsed by his. He worked in the kitchen for a restaurant at the time, and after work, he would come home, change, then go to bed. From working in the kitchen, with all the grease and sweat!
Granted, this summer I did shower in the morning a few times, and I can see why it can be nice. Definitely wakes you up. But as you mentioned, definitely have to be a morning person in order to shower.
I can’t go on a day without washing my hair (I know I’ve been told to try and wash my hair every other day… but it just feels gross). I also have a feeling the reason why some people get a lot of facial acne is cause they don’t wash their hair daily. They sleep on the pillow that is filled with the sweat, grease and dirt from that day and previous days, and during the night, they rub their face into it. NOT ideal.

:O That was me all the way reading about your friend who didn’t shower before bed despite working in a kitchen :O :O We should be thankful he does shower in the mornings then, I guess? 😀 Oh and I know what you mean about washing your hair daily. I do it too! I can’t go a day without washing my hair and it DOES feel gross, like there’s a layer of film over my scalp and my hair looks lank and awful *shudder*

I need to take both morning and evening shower. The former to wake up myself and feel more enegery to start the day, the later to clean whole body after long day out with dirt and sweat.
I love rain shower and soak in bath tub. Wish i can have both install in my own bathroom when i have my own house. To me shower time is “ME” time.
If I went out after evening shower, I MUST take another shower before I go to bed. My family all have the same habit which I think is good. 🙂
Paris B says
Yes, I agree it’s a good habit to have and no one will be smelly! hehe… but queueing for the bathroom is another thing altogether! 😀 I do have a tub now and while it’s a nice idea to have a soak, in reality, I realised it just doesn’t work because you use so much water! But a rain shower is a must have – I love mine! 😀

I’m late to this comment thread cause my confession is about to yield a lot of disgust here!
Being not socially active I can be a pure couch potato for as long as the weekend goes, and in that instance where Im just cooped up at home, I actually only shower once in 2 days! But of course I take supreme care of my feminine zone given I rinse after every “small n big business” and a wash before bed. I also have extreme habits of washing my face and the whole nine yards with facial routine.
That said, before everyone stares at me like I am so unhygienic, I realize letting go of the mental trap that you must shower once a day in a humid country, my eczema and super chronic dry skin has improved by hell lots in terms of retaining moisture. Mind you I use SLS products only based on occasions (how sweaty and how exposed to the outside environment) and mainly stick of non-SLS items. Followed with Cerave/MooGoo Full Cream and coat with another Ceramide containing lotion every post shower. I also go to bed with long pants every night to lock in the moisture to battle against the drying effect of air con. But skipping a shower when it’s not necessary it really helps my skin by a mile!
At least my skin doesnt act like a post menopausal skin in winter EVERYDAY!
Paris B says
Haha ok I must admit it stunned me a little but you know what, your skin health is paramount and if it means showering less keeps it healthy so be it! I’m sure you’re clean otherwise and don’t smell 😀

Evening. Mainly because I go to the gym in the late afternoon and it would be strange not to shower after that.
