When Dior first launched their One Essential serum back in 2010, I took it for a spin and declared that I liked it. I did, I do and I used up a couple of bottles. It was one of my first experiences with a pre-serum because it was meant to be used before any other serum, to boost the efficacy of the products used.
It’s now 2014 and as will happen, this popular product has now been given a boost and given a new lease of life.
The new generation of One Essential now sits on its own, away from the Capture Totale skincare range, and it is now called the One Essential Intense Skin Purifying Booster Serum. You may also see it being called an Intense Skin Detoxifying Booster Serum because that’s what the new formula claims to do – detoxify your skin.
What the new One Essential claims is to eliminate toxins from the skin surface, which then frees up and clears up the energy flowing to your skin cells so they are healthier and more energized, and will regenerate better. What it ultimately leads to is, better looking skin.
Skin is promised a more radiant and smoother appearance, and the new formula is enriched with red hibiscus flower extract which helps eliminate toxins, up to 100%, it is claimed.
All very interesting, except we won’t know how that works do we? Toxins on skin? A product that will eliminate it? It all sounds pretty scary and out there and if I’m to be perfectly honest, I’m not sure I’m with it.
What I’ll do is take this new one for a spin and report back in a couple of months how I feel about it. I liked the previous version which you see in the picture, alongside the new packaging. It promised to boost the efficacy of skincare and it worked for me and did and I liked how my skin felt and looked smoother and better. But this new claims of purifying and detoxifying the skin is a little out there for me so I’ll have to get my head around it and see how I feel.
In terms of packaging, the new packaging looks much more luxurious. The red is brighter and the bottle is now glass with a nice heft to it as compared to the plastic bottle before. The product too seems to feel a little lighter in texture.
I don’t have any thoughts on its efficacy at this point so I’ll leave this preview here. I’ll be back with my review in a few months so check back then if you’re keen to know if this lives up to its hype 🙂
Have you used the One Essential serum before this? Did it work for you?
I liked it when I first used it but I also know of people who don’t see the point of using it because it didn’t do anything for them. Skincare is so individual isn’t it? 🙂

I got this too to try out so I’m kind of excited actually. At my age I’ll give anything a whack! 😀 😀 But I do say that skincare promises lately have been getting really outrageous. Like the Shiseido one that supposedly boosts skin immunity? YEAH OK.
Paris B says
Haha I know what you mean, T! I’m giving it a go too and yes, that Shiseido one does have me rolling my eyes a little, unfortunately. Sometimes, I think these outrageous claims are just purely for marketing. Else, who’d be interested eh?

Still a bit skeptic about this preserum idea. But what I can say about products that release the toxin from skin to get healthier skin from my experience: I usually get lots of pimples first then skin looks much better and clearer, it’s like sunshine after heavy rain, haha. I guess the pimples are products of toxin out from skin and show that I have lots of toxin LOL
Anyhow, looking forward for your next review about this product, I want to know if there’s any good difference, if it’s worth it to add this in skincare regime or can just skip 🙂
Paris B says
The scepticism is normal, Fathin 🙂 Having used the One Essential before this, I can say I liked the effect although I’m not sure that it’s because it’s a preserum or because it just works as a good product. To be honest, I don’t believe in the whole toxin release thing. For me, if I break out from a product, it’s because the ingredients don’t agree with my skin. But still, it’ll be interesting to see if or how well this product works. I do feel it to be a bit gimmicky but I liked One Essential before this so let’s see how this goes.

Oh I can definitely see a difference when I use this, but then again, my skin reacts very well to Dior skincare 🙂 Baby will be out in a few months, and I’m excited to see if this makes a difference when I’m in tremendous lack of sleep!

It’ll be a good time then to put it to the test! One Essential previously was a good serum for me, but I’m not feeling this one at the moment to be honest. Still, we’ll see!

I have a little deluxe sample of the previous version, but I still haven’t tried it yet! I have friends who absolutely swear by it, but the alcohol and fragrance it contains make me wary. Maybe I’ll give it a go at some point and see if my skin likes it despite all the ingredients I try to avoid. You never know!
Paris B says
Yep, like a lot of Dior products, alcohol and fragrance rule 😛 But it’s worth a try, because you never know, as you say! Sometimes, I do wonder if we aren’t just being scaremongered to death about ingredients, since most of us aren’t experts 😉
Irene says
There’s no way a serum can make the skin to release toxins. You only can achieve that by exercise or sauna (as in sweating it out).
Paris B says
Which is what I believe wholeheartedly too! 🙂

I will be watching to see how you liked it. I am super curious as to how this will work!

So am I 😛

I guess 260 scientist at Stanford University aren\’t quite as educated as those commenting on the internet because 260 scientists at Stanford all agreed the technology and science of the ingredient in One Essential does what Dior says it does and they put it to the test and gave it a NOBEL PRIZE.
Paris B says
Well actually it’s the other way around. The discovery that won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was in 2004 for the discovery of proteasome by Aaron Ciechanover, Avram Hershko and Irwin Rose. Dior’s research capitalised on this discovery and partnered with Stanford University’s Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine to obtain their scientific findings to formulate One Essential. So, it wasn’t Dior and One Essential that came first, but the Nobel Prize discovery. We pretty much only have their word for it that it’s in there in sufficient quantities to work.
