Thank you Bobbi Brown for giving me a healthy Nude Glow without a face like a shimmer brick

December 11, 2013 Paris B 18 Comments

Earlier this week, I showed you some items from the Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood collection but I told you also that I’d saved the best for last and I have! I received a very unexpected gift recently and nestled in its contents was the Bobbi Brown Nude Glow Shimmer Brick.

Now, if you’re as familiar with the famed Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks as I am, then you would likely recoil a little. I did. I used to own so many Shimmer Bricks from the popular Bronze and Beige all the way to the limited edition Brownie and Apricot Shimmer Bricks. I’m not even sure why because all they did was make me look like I fell face first into a vat of glitter and oil. Sure, I thought I was all glam back then. Folly of youth eh? 😛

Eventually, I gave or swapped away most of them and promptly forgot about them. So, when I saw the Nude Glow Shimmer Brick, I had a bit of a flashback to my glitter faced days. Did I dare try it again? Well, I’ll spare you the suspense. I’m glad I did, because this has quickly become a fave 🙂

Why isn’t your skincare working for you? Are you experiencing “Skin Fatigue”?

December 10, 2013 Paris B 32 Comments

skin fatigue

“Skin Fatigue” – I wonder what’s that? I hear you ask.

Well, here’s some things I learned about our skin and why we may feel that sometimes, some skincare doesn’t deliver what they promise, or why our skin may just not be receptive to certain skincare. I’ll try to distill the science of what I’ve learned from listening to a couple of scientists during my trip to Sydney with Olay 🙂

I’ll allow that the take away is quite Olay-centric which is to be expected, but a lot of the sciencey bits made sense so I’ll share those 🙂 So, what’s that about skin and energy then? How does our skin get tired and how does that affect how we look?

Channel your inner silver screen siren with the Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood Collection

December 9, 2013 Paris B 33 Comments

I don’t think there’s anything in the world that conjures up the images of Hollywood in its heyday more than strong red lipstick and a neutral, defined eye. There was a reason why this was so. Old movies and photographs were taken in black and white, and colour photography wasn’t as high definition then as it is now, so and strong, bold colours show off contrasts better. Then again, maybe people valued elegance and glamour more back in the day.

There was a charm about old Hollywood that I think has been much eroded in modern times. Movie stars seemed more like stars – glittery, golden, glamorous, elegant, untouchable. I think this is what Bobbi Brown envisaged in the Old Hollywood collection released for Christmas 2013.

These are some of the items in the collection and I think you can already see how it all ties in with the festive season. The touches of elegant red on lips, the golden glitter infusing the eyes, nails and lips and an easy elegance in the sleek lines of the packaging.

Performance of products aside, this is quite a visual feast for the eyes and fitting to its theme. You may already have seen this around or even picked up an item or two from the collection so let me know what you think of it while I run it down quickly for you. Get a coffee, we have lots to get through 🙂

Scrumptious Weekend Vol. 29 : Getting a little Cointreau, Cointreau, Cointreau-versial

December 8, 2013 Paris B 17 Comments

A week ago, I was invited by a friend to go sip some Cointreau (pronounced ‘kwan-trou’) and find out a little more about it. It was a purely social event but I had so much fun, I thought heck, let’s just blog it anyway. Partly because it’s fun to not have obligations to blog about something, but want to do so for the fun of it. Partly so I’d remember a recipe or two of the cocktails mixed that day that passed pretty much in a blur after a while LOL!

The interesting bit was getting to meet also, the brand representative, who is a 6th generation Monsieur Cointreau. For some reason that amuses me. How many of us can walk up to a brand and say “My great-great-great-great-great-grandad created that!”

Cointreau is a clear liqueur distilled from a mixture of bitter and sweet orange peels and turns cloudy when mixed with water or when the temperature drops so, it’ll turn cloudy when water or ice is introduced. It’s really fascinating, if things like this fascinate you. It sure did me, because I was familiar with the square squat bottle but not familiar with the drink myself. There’re a couple of recipes I picked up below, if you’d like to whip something up for the festive season 😛

It’s an unusual Chinese New Year this year. It’s the first time since I left home that I did not make an early morning drive home for CNY for the reunion dinner (I always do so to beat traffic). It’s the first time I’m spending CNY in KL. It’s the first time my hair is looking such a mess for CNY 😂
Regardless, we do this not for ourselves but for others so we can have more joyful CNY celebrations to come.
Wishing all of you a Happy, healthy Chinese New Year filled with Ox-picious tidings 🧧 Gong Xi Fa Cai and enjoy the festive break! ❤️
