The Holiday season just started smelling better with Diptyque

December 15, 2013 Paris B 20 Comments

A couple of weeks ago saw me paying a visit to a Diptyque counter because I have a soft spot for their fragrances and candles and I saw from here that there was a 10 candle set released this year. Excuse me? 10 candles? Let me at them please!

Unfortunately, I found that it wasn’t sold here which left me feeling rather disappointed. But before I could leave the store, the cunning SA at Kens Apothecary BV2 told me that what they DID have was a 5 candle set. I spun around so quickly, I might have given myself whiplash.

Part of the Diptyque Christmas selection is a set of mini candles that was released to commemorate Diptyque’s 50th Anniversary. Each candle represents a scent created in each of the 5 decades commemorated, and they are the mini 35g candles with an approximately 12 hour burning time.

They come in a beautiful black and gold box and I picked it up because it’s a great way to sample a selection of Diptyque candles to see which I might like. Thus far, my experience has only been with 34 and whilst I like it, I wanted to see what else was on offer. If you have never tried anything from Diptyque but are wondering what the hell the hype is all about these luxury scented candles, then the box sets are the way to go. If you can get hold of the 10 candle set, all the better!

For Christmas however, there are 3 limited edition candles, one of which you see in the picture above. If candles and home fragrances are your thing, then boy, I just know we’re going to be friends 😀

Salon Visit: Sothy’s Flagship Salon @ Publika for the Lifeline Energizing Intensive Treatment Facial

December 14, 2013 Paris B 12 Comments

I found out just recently, that the 128 Faubourg facial salons have been rebranded as Sothy’s Flagship Salons which brings the Sothy’s brand name frontline and center and perhaps a little more recognizable. So, the newly rebranded salons now look like this one, at Publika.

I was there recently to try a new facial treatment – Lifeline (Fil de Vie) Energizing Intensive Treatment with Siberian Ginseng. Do you remember when I briefly talked about our skin cells losing energy due to age and various internal and external aggressors? It was brought back to me when I underwent this facial because what this treatment was supposed to do, was boost the skin’s energy reserves so skin looks brighter and feels smoother and firmer.

FYI! New Zealand Organic brand Antipodes Launches A Performance Plus Mineral Foundation

December 13, 2013 Paris B 12 Comments

You know, beauty trends have a cyclical nature that you never really notice till you’re “in the scene” as it were. When I started blogging back in 2007 the IT product was mineral makeup. Then over the years, interest waned but it seems like it’s never really gone away. Now, Antipodes hopes to bring it back with their version of mineral makeup foundation and powder.

antipodes mineral foundation

Antipodes, if you didn’t already realise, has quickly become my favourite organic/natural skincare brand for the simple reason that almost every product I’ve tried from them has worked for me. I have this love-hate relationship with organic/natural skincare because for the most part, my skin rarely takes well to them. Antipodes was different and I was happy to have been introduced to it.

But mineral makeup? I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m not the biggest fan of mineral makeup or mineral foundation. I just find them too fiddly, and the colour match for foundation is usually a problem for me. But Antipodes has recently launched their Performance Plus Mineral Foundation and I’ve got a quick overview on what’s new in their makeup line, plus a quick thought on the mineral foundation that I tested a little at the launch.

The famed Hydraluron Moisture Booster serum : It’s not just hype, it works!

December 12, 2013 Paris B 38 Comments

You know what? I didn’t realise how much of a cult status Hydraluron has attained, and I had only discovered it recently. Much of the hype has rolled out of the UK with skincare guru Caroline Hirons leading the charge, placing this product in her hall of fame and creating some sort of worldwide frenzy for it. I was curious about it, although I was also using a similar product under a different brand at the time. I didn’t even know Hydraluron was available here in Malaysia! That just tells you how unassuming it is and how little publicity it gets. Tsk! I picked this up one day when I happened to be in Sunway Pyramid, on which day I swear, there was a blue moon in the sky.

Hydraluron hails from Canada under Indeed Laboratories and in Malaysia is found in just 1 store – Muse by Watson’s – in Sunway Pyramid. It is obscure and frustrating. It needs to be more widely sold so a) I can get hold of it if I need to replenish (I never go to Sunway) and b) more people can try it because it’s fab!

Well, I say fab, because it is, but only because the other product which I think is more fab isn’t available here, and will cost you more. So for all intents and purposes, this is a fab little product that looks unassuming, gives skin that ol’ boost it needs to plump up moisture and just makes skin look and feel better all around. Say it with me – FAB! 😀

It’s an unusual Chinese New Year this year. It’s the first time since I left home that I did not make an early morning drive home for CNY for the reunion dinner (I always do so to beat traffic). It’s the first time I’m spending CNY in KL. It’s the first time my hair is looking such a mess for CNY 😂
Regardless, we do this not for ourselves but for others so we can have more joyful CNY celebrations to come.
Wishing all of you a Happy, healthy Chinese New Year filled with Ox-picious tidings 🧧 Gong Xi Fa Cai and enjoy the festive break! ❤️
