Goodness, I haven’t done a blog tag in such a long time that it is almost refreshing to be remembered and tagged by a fellow blogger! Haha! Back in the days when I first started blogging, we’d be forever tagging each other to do these things, but I haven’t done one of these for a while so it’s nice to go back to basics.
Marina of Makeup4all tagged me last week to share a 5 Product Makeup post and I thought it was so refreshing to be tagged, I’d do it!
Essentially, all I had to do was pick 5 products I’d use to do my makeup. It wasn’t hard but it wasn’t easy either because you know us women. We’d have 300 scenarios in our head for what we’d need to doll up for and it’s always that 301st that has us stumped 😛
But I picked out these 5 products on the basis that with only 5 products, I’d go simple and keep my focus on looking flawless. Before you read mine, put on your thinking caps, there will be a test!
So here are the 5 items I picked for my 5 Product Makeup.
- A bright lip – I picked the Estee Lauder Wet Plum Lip Lacquer but I was basically gunning for a bright lip. It brightens up the complexion and allows you to get away without messing about with your eyes. You may notice that no eye products feature! See, wear a bright bright lip and no one will notice!
- A bright blush – My pick is the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Blush in Pink Coral, a colour I have been using a lot of lately. Again, a bright pop of colour on the cheeks simulates the bloom of youth and makes you look younger and perkier. Alive, as it were.
- A brow pencil – My pick is the very worn Shu Uemura Hard Pencil 9 in Seal Brown. I love it for being easy to use and for giving me defined brows. I picked brows over eyeliner because I find that when I have brows on, it frames the face enough for you to get away without eye makeup. I however, do not like having to take it back to the store to sharpen to the sword shape that makes it so easy to use so once I’m done, I’m going to have to find a retractable pencil in a similar shape. Please feel free to recommend me your faves.
- A good concealer – Yes lovelies, I have a lot to conceal and so I go for my Holy Grail concealer, the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. It brightens my under eye area, conceals blemishes, stays on all day and is just pretty much perfect. Can’t go anywhere without this one!
- A light foundation or base – The Guerlain Lingerie de Peau BB Beauty Booster is pretty much a foundation for me. It has good enough coverage and just gives me that good base that I look for, evening out my complexion and any ruddiness in the skin. I’ve been so happy with the condition of my skin that I now use this on work days for my base and it’s awesome.
So that’s pretty much what I’d use if I could only pick 5 makeup products. My focus is on the skin because it’s what I think I need to work most on. Right, so now I have to tag some people to do this tag so I’d pick Tine, Sheila, Tracy, S (DnM) and Mag. Go forth and spill!
If you could only pick 5 makeup products, what 5 makeup products would you pick?
I’d love to know what 5 makeup products you’d pick too so share away in the comment box or on your blog. There’s no logic to this you know. Feel free to pick whatever you want, and justify it (or not) as you will. Maybe you want to do 5 products for eyes? Or 5 for lips? Ooh that would be fun… 😉 It’s fun and it really does test you because really, only 5 makeup products? You gotta be kidding right? hehe… 😉 Oh and if you have a rec for a retractable angled brow pencil, please share too!

Interesting blog and its such a pain to only pick 5 makeup items! haha. My pick are:
a) Cleu de peau Smoothing Base for Pores. Extremely good base for oily skin. Keeps foundation fresh and long-lasting.
b) Rimmel Wake me Up Foundation- My HG foundie for oily skin. All the high-end brands have no fight against this!
c) NARS Radient Cream Concealer- You have already covered it :p
4) Laura Mercer Translucent Setting Powder- Keep makeup flesh and matt
5) Burberry Lip Velvet in Peony Rose

Nice picks, Anne! I have to go and try the Rimmel foundation – I was at the pharmacy the other day and wanted to but the shelves were so bare and I couldn’t remember which one it was that I had to try LOL! There are so many aren’t there? I have to go and look again 🙂

The Etude House drawing eyebrow might be what you are looking for 🙂
It’s very cheap and works wonders ! Only there could I find the color close to my natural color (kind of weird grey brown…)
Anyway, for my top 5, I would pick: a bb cream, a blush, a brow pencil, a mascara and a lip gloss.

Thanks for the rec Aube! I will take a look the next time I go by an Etude House counter. At least if it doesn’t work, it won’t be an expensive experiment 😉

I like how you think, Paris! I’m a bright lip girl as well, and my products are almost exactly the same as yours. I want a bright lip stick/lip balm hybrid, a concealer, and eyebrow product. Where we differ is that I’d want mascara, and I’d need a setting powder for my undereyes. If I could forgo the setting powder, I’d love a shimmer highlight pencil or stick, but alas, mascara and concealer smudge! Everywhere! Maybe I need higher quality products…

Yay for great minds thinking alike, Laura 😉 Unfortunately for me, whether I wear mascara or not makes no difference to my puny lashes so I go all or nothing. Either I go the whole eyeshadow, liner and mascara route or none at all LOL Then I realised that going all the way meant I’d use up my 5 item quota. Oops! 😀

For my simple look the 5 thinks I cannot do without
1) Chanel Perfection Lumiere (Currently the foundie that suits my skintone perfectly for now)
2) Chanel Le Creme Blush in Revelation (the most universal shade)
3) Shu Uemura Brow Pencil (the exact one you have, currently I have 3 hiding around in my makeup pouch, I keep losing them)
4) Stila Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in black
5) Any pinky lipstick (I’m faithless when it comes to lippies, I change all the time)
Paris B says
Ah Jacqueline, I have to try the Chanel cream blushes! So many raves for them everywhere! 😀 Oh and you know what? I have 2 of the Shu Uemura pencils too just so I don’t have to keep going to have them sharpened 😛 I use them both down to the extent that they are both unusable then take them for sharpening 😛

I have lash extensions (best invention ever for lazy girls) and thick bangs that cover my brows.
1. Base! I prefer using primer + liquid foundation + meteorites but if I had to pick only one item, it’d be my trusty Hera uv mist cushion or Iope air cushion XP. They work great for me when I’m in a rush to get to work and are great for touch ups too! Even if I use another base combi in the morning I’d touch up with either the cushions or a powder foundation (thinking of getting a cream compact from NARS or Bobbi Brown for this purpose too)
2. Concealer for my under eyes – currently using Bobbi Brown’s concealer and corrector
3. Blush – definite must for me! I’d pick a bright blush like NARS desire but for something everyday I’d go with a soft neutral pink like GA#2
4. Lips – I prefer lipsticks that are hydrating and easy to touch up without a mirror. Would probably pick Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy or Fresh lip treatment in Rose
5. Eye – I’d usually go for liquid eyeliner (faves are Ettusais or dollywink in black and brown) but since I have lash extensions a shimmery eyeshadow would do. Current fav is Chanel Gri Gri

Hi Paris!
U mean there is rimmel in Malaysia?!!! Then that’s easy la! I don’t have to order it from online stores in uk again! The one I’m using now is the wake me up foundation, SPF 15 ( with orange cap). Hope u will like it as much as I do 🙂
Paris B says
Yep! We do have Rimmel in Sasa, Guardian and Watson’s 🙂 Ah thanks for letting me know it’s the orange cap LOL I know they have so many foundations that I can never keep track of which is which! The orange cap stood out to me which is why I remember it. I’ll be sure to take a look next time – I think there’s some sales going on 😛
Anne says
Aiya that week which I went to jb ( told ya in twitter), I never see rimmel in sasa nor watsons! Bummer. Guess it might be only available in the bigger outlets, say those in KL? Haha . Ya orange cap easy to spot. But if u do not have oily complexion ( lucky u:p), then it might be a tab dry. But it’s so cheap anyway, no harm trying ;). Oh may I know if u hv used any of Marc Jacobs new line of makeup yet? Looks quite good in review…
Paris B says
Oh bummer! I see them at Guardian I think and definitely in Sasa but the displays are always so empty and forlorn 😛 I don’t generally have oily skin but it’s always good to know what’s out there because in our humidity, anything that stays put is a bonus! HAHA As for Marc Jacobs, no I haven’t tried and have no intention to at this time. It just doesn’t interest me very much 😛
