Tagged, I’m It! Paris Picks : 5 Makeup Products I’d Pick in a Pinch

October 16, 2013 Paris B 62 Comments

Goodness, I haven’t done a blog tag in such a long time that it is almost refreshing to be remembered and tagged by a fellow blogger! Haha! Back in the days when I first started blogging, we’d be forever tagging each other to do these things, but I haven’t done one of these for a while so it’s nice to go back to basics.

Marina of Makeup4all tagged me last week to share a 5 Product Makeup post and I thought it was so refreshing to be tagged, I’d do it!

5 product makeup tag

Essentially, all I had to do was pick 5 products I’d use to do my makeup. It wasn’t hard but it wasn’t easy either because you know us women. We’d have 300 scenarios in our head for what we’d need to doll up for and it’s always that 301st that has us stumped 😛

But I picked out these 5 products on the basis that with only 5 products, I’d go simple and keep my focus on looking flawless. Before you read mine, put on your thinking caps, there will be a test!

So here are the 5 items I picked for my 5 Product Makeup.

5 makeup products

  1. A bright lip – I picked the Estee Lauder Wet Plum Lip Lacquer but I was basically gunning for a bright lip. It brightens up the complexion and allows you to get away without messing about with your eyes. You may notice that no eye products feature! See, wear a bright bright lip and no one will notice!
  2. A bright blush – My pick is the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Blush in Pink Coral, a colour I have been using a lot of lately. Again, a bright pop of colour on the cheeks simulates the bloom of youth and makes you look younger and perkier. Alive, as it were.
  3. A brow pencil – My pick is the very worn Shu Uemura Hard Pencil 9 in Seal Brown. I love it for being easy to use and for giving me defined brows. I picked brows over eyeliner because I find that when I have brows on, it frames the face enough for you to get away without eye makeup. I however, do not like having to take it back to the store to sharpen to the sword shape that makes it so easy to use so once I’m done, I’m going to have to find a retractable pencil in a similar shape. Please feel free to recommend me your faves.
  4. A good concealer – Yes lovelies, I have a lot to conceal and so I go for my Holy Grail concealer, the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. It brightens my under eye area, conceals blemishes, stays on all day and is just pretty much perfect. Can’t go anywhere without this one!
  5. A light foundation or base – The Guerlain Lingerie de Peau BB Beauty Booster is pretty much a foundation for me. It has good enough coverage and just gives me that good base that I look for, evening out my complexion and any ruddiness in the skin. I’ve been so happy with the condition of my skin that I now use this on work days for my base and it’s awesome.

So that’s pretty much what I’d use if I could only pick 5 makeup products. My focus is on the skin because it’s what I think I need to work most on. Right, so now I have to tag some people to do this tag so I’d pick Tine, Sheila, Tracy, S (DnM) and Mag. Go forth and spill!

If you could only pick 5 makeup products, what 5 makeup products would you pick?

I’d love to know what 5 makeup products you’d pick too so share away in the comment box or on your blog. There’s no logic to this you know. Feel free to pick whatever you want, and justify it (or not) as you will. Maybe you want to do 5 products for eyes? Or 5 for lips? Ooh that would be fun… 😉 It’s fun and it really does test you because really, only 5 makeup products? You gotta be kidding right? hehe… 😉 Oh and if you have a rec for a retractable angled brow pencil, please share too!

I like your choice! I definitely pick the concealer too. I’m not a lips person. So I definitely replaced that with an eye product probably an eyeliner.:)

Hehe… 5 products and we are not even including any brushes!!

My pick will be… Chanel Vitalumier Aqua, a rosy lipstick to double as cream blush, dark brown eyeshadow that triple as eyeliner, eyebrow colour and outer corner shade, tapered eyeliner brush and mascara! 🙂

LOL! No, no brushes for this one! 😀 I like your idea of duplicating lip and blush. Doh! Why didn’t I think of that 😛

Hmm this is interesting! I’ve been wanting to get the Shu Uemura Hard Pencil but I’m too lazy to bring it down to the store to sharpen everytime (the counter is far away from me too!) 😀

    Here’s mine:
    1. Pond’s Magic Powder – keeps my face matt the entire day! And it is dirt cheap! 😀
    2. NARS Deep Throat blush – I reach for this blush 90% of the time because it goes with all makeup looks! I have to be careful to hide it from my mum though – the name is embarrassing (happened to me once when she asked me what is this blush named… I just handed it over to her, ask her to read herself and scrambled away! 😛 )!
    3. Daiso eyebrow pencil – works for me and is so cheap too! 😀
    4. MAC Baby Sparks Dazzleglass – So sparkly and goes with all lipsticks, I love this to bits! 😀
    5. MAC Photogravure Technakohl – Love how I don’t have to sharpen this one! 😀

Not just that, the counter at Pavilion butchers my pencils all the time while the one at MidValley gives me a good edge. Yet, I can’t get down to MV all the time so I’m really bummed. I think I’m going to have to give it up soon 😛 I tried the Daiso brow pencil and it’s great for the price, but I couldn’t like it for some reason 🙁 I can’t remember if I have Deep Throat but thank your lucky stars your fave isn’t Orgasm 😛

    5 products, that’s kinda tough.
    1. A multi tasker for lips and cheeks – Bobbi Brown pot rouge
    2. A multi tasker for eyes which happens to be from Bobbi Brown also – their brow kit which can be used to fill in brows, eye shadow and liner (brush included in the kit)
    3. Mascara is a must for me
    4. A light concealer which can double as foundation – RMS un cover up
    5. Lastly, powder to keep shine at bay

Good picks Lily! I just can’t get the RMS to work for me so I’m giving it away. I am actually experimenting with not wearing any mascara for a while, to give my lashes a break before they break! 😛

Hmm! Now I’m interested in that Nars concealer. I’ve stopped using concealer under the eye and now just use foundation, because the concealers I’ve tried are of a different texture and the colour doesn’t seem to match with the rest of the face -_-

For me I prefer some definition to the eye and a more natural lip, so I would pick liquid foundation, powder, a pink blush, liquid eyeliner and a hint of Bobbi Brown’s Old Hollywood. Just a stain of it 😉

And that’s why you need the Nars concealer! Haha… But honestly, I love it because I can use it for BOTH under eye AND blemishes on the rest of the face. Just be sure that when you use it on the under eye area, don’t use a lot because it can get cakey. So, 1 dot on the inner corner and 1 dot on the outer corner is more than enough 🙂

I’ll recommend Cyber Color Eyebrow Pencil (Silver Tube)! It’s freaking me coz of the price and brand (no offence here, haha!!!). I personally think that it is better than Shu Uemura, 3CE (Korean Stylenanda’s makeup line), and Kanebo in terms of drawing eyebrow at the area without hairs.

My 5 Makeup Products would be: 1. Cyber Color Eyebrow Pencil 2. K-Palette 24Hrs Superslim Eyeliner 3. Nars Blush 4. Kiss Me/Majolica-Majorca Mascara and 5. IPSA Creative Concealer

I use eyebrow pencil from daiso too. Really cheapo and served d purpose.probably cuz I don’t need much help in that area.most x I forget to touch up my brow anyway.hehe .. My 5 pdts will be
    1.shu uemura mousse primer
    2. Laneige bb cushion
    3. Nars creamy concealer (love this Thankx so much Paris for ur recommendations )
    4. Lipstick /liptint
    5. Mascara
actually I can even make away with 4 products on daily days. As usually I skip my eyes area and concentrate on my skin and lips ..so mascara wasn’t really something I use daily.

The NARS concealer is really good. No more creasing under the eyes and is so pigmented and heavy I needed to use only little amount. Thankx again for your recommendation. I love to read your review because you’re Msian and I really can relate to your skin type, skintones to the humid weather we staying in. I read your reply to Wynnce. I have the same feeling everytime I entered SASA shops too!!! Gosh..I thought I was the only one with this feeling. The SA is either really rude or pushy. I would just like a piece of mind looking through new products but they are always around on your face giving the ‘you better be quick and buy lotsa pdts’ look. urgghh…so I avoided SASA unless I really have somethin particular in mind which SASA only sells.

That’s what I love about the NARS Concealer too! So little is needed to do a big job well 🙂 Thank you for your kind comments and support and yes, I am terrified of Sasa stores! I can’t bear being followed or having weird brands pushed in my face while I’m checking out something else. I’d just like to browse in peace and that’s something Sasa doesn’t allow so I don’t even walk in anymore. If there’s a brand only sold in there, I guess I’ll never know eh? 😛

The Majolica Majorca pencil has a similar shape, and it comes in a twist-up retractable packaging! You can also buy just the pencil itself as a refill, so it’s more cost-effective. 🙂

I just tried my aunt’s Hard 9 Pencil and I found the color to be a little to thin for me heh heh. I prefer my brows to be darker, heee~

    Here are my five:
    1. A good medium coverage foundation for all occasions: MAC Pro Longwear Foundation, layered over problem areas as a concealer stand-in.
    2. A good, bright lipstick: Anything fuchsia and creamy will do – My fave is MAC’s Sheen Supreme in Insanely It.
    3. Peachy-pink blush: It suits every look, and gives a natural glow to the skin, hee ^.^ Fave is Nars Deep Throat blush.
    4. Waterproof mascara: Any formula will do, so long it’s waterproof.
    5. Dark, black gel eyeliner: I like the fact that it’s easily applied, and can be as precise as a liquid eyeliner with the right brush. The darker, the better. All time fave: Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel liner, the black one.

Maybe its the colour? I use Seal Brown which is probably the most popular shade and layering it gives better intensity of colour. There is another shade up if you like the texture 🙂 another fan of Deep Throat! I thought I had it but I actually have Torrid which is very nice too 🙂

Allow me to recommend K-Palette’s liquid brow marker (02: gray brown). Lisa Eldridge uses a similar one by Suqqu in one of her videos working on a Chinese model and the results are wayy more natural than a brow pencil. Sweatproof too (tested in a very sweaty ballet class)!

I agree with you on the bright lips part 🙂 Thanks to your revlon kissable stain review, I don’t leave my house without it. There are mornings when I simply don’t have time to apply makeup so I just do a quick swipe of the kissable stain in Honey, and I’m good to go. My other staples are (that is when I have more time, hehe):
    1. Etude drawing eye brow pencil – works for me, super cheap, no need to sharpen
    2. Kate BB gel cream – perfect match on me before, but my skin got lighter after summer. ..so now I’m searching for a new BB cream..I’m thinking of the Laneige BB cushion based on your review as well
    3. Tarte amazonian clay blush in blissful
Hmm, now I’m also thinking about trying the NARS concealer. Your blog is evil, Paris. Haha. Just kidding!

    Hmm 5 products ..

1 – primer : my skin sometimes get oily when I’m not in an air conditioned room during the day so the “Estée Lauder mattifying primer ” usually helps whatever I’m putting after stay .
    2. Obsessed with multitasking products recently – the ” Nars Multiple” (I think it’s called that?) .It’s like a lipstick but much thicker and also in a tube . Could be used as blush , and basically anything.
    3. Foundation – usually I go with low coverage so it’s usually be creams from Different brands but if a pimple suddenly appears , I’d go with Estée Lauder doublewear light .
    4. Powder – Chanel powdré universallé .
    5. Brows – shu uemura hard formulae pencil ( read your review on it and got it , currently loving it haha)

    So that’s it ~ hehe

Great base – for me, this means a BB cream. Love Dr Jart Black Label (for dry skin).
Have to set with a great loose powder – I currently have a few good ones, MUFE for high-end, and Essence for drugstore.
Need an amazing neutral blush with multi-colour and some kind of highlighting effect (I am not into matte) – Benefit Sugarbomb over NARS Deep Throat. (ARGH, too hard to choose).
Lip colour that is ultra long-wearing yet moisturising, must be neutral too – Rouge Bunny Rouge in Whim of Mine.
Amazing all-rounder waterproof mascara – Sasa Super Dolly for affordable, or MUFE Aqua for high-end. I recently discover Maybelline Rocket and OMG, you have to try it. Think the Rocket beats the other two actually, and I have loved those two for years and years.
