The last time I lusted over something from Gucci, it was the Vintage Web Boston. I will report that it is an excellent bag. It holds lots without looking overstuffed, looks as good slung cross body in a casual manner, or handheld in a formal setting and is unobtrusive without the canvas strip down the middle.
But Gucci has gotten me lusting after another design from their bamboo collection – the Bamboo Shopper.
One of Gucci’s most iconic designs incorporates the use of bamboo in the handle. I have to admit I found it strange initially. But I’ve always liked that bamboo touch. It was strange, but different. I liked that difference, but I found the shape and design of the bamboo handled bags a little too madam-ish for me.
But when I saw the latest Gucci Bamboo Shopper, my heart gave a little hop, skip and jump 😀
The Bamboo Shopper comes in a simple streamlined design. A design I’ve realised I’m very drawn to. The Prada Saffiano Tote has this design, so does the Diorissimo. I like it. And I like the touch of bamboo in the handles.
The only reservation I’d have about the bamboo handles would be that they are likely to be stiff and maybe a little hard on the arm if you choose to arm-carry it. It’ll look nice hand-held, but in the crook of your arm? Make sure you don’t over-stuff the bag.
Which might be why there is a strap to allow you to carry it cross body. Nice touch! I like versatile bags like these because you can quite easily transform it from casual to formal with just one snap of the clasp.
There is a magnetic closure, and lots of compartments in there including a zippered compartment where you can keep your wallet safe. Based on information online, it comes in 2 sizes as you see above. One slightly taller, one shorter. I think it looks better in the taller version. More proportionate.
The leather is looks to be a soft calf leather which is lovely. I find Gucci quite underrated as a brand. Yes, their canvas logo bags have been done to death and they do project an older vibe. But if you go for their leather bags, they are well made, different and classic. Which is more than can be said for some other designer brands.
No idea of local prices yet. I haven’t been in to the store to see it for myself, but it is US$1890 and and US$2290 for the smaller and larger size respectively in the USA and €1490 and €1650 in Europe. As a tip, if you are going to Europe or know anyone going there, get your Gucci fix there – saves you A LOT! 😀
Any thoughts on the Gucci Bamboo Shopper?
I usually gravitate towards coloured bags, but in the case of Gucci, they do amazing black bags. Their light gold hardware sets off beautifully against the beautiful black leather. So, I’m eyeing the black shopper. Pity about my ban 😛

Yes! Yes! Yes! 😀 I have always been enamoured with the Gucci bamboo handle. True that the stiff handle may be a challenge to carry it via the usual crooked arm “tai tai” style but I was impressed with the cross body style! They so totally got everything right ain’t it? Oh you make me want to hop into the store when I am back at work 😉

YAY for a Gucci Bamboo handle fan! 😀 If you head to the store, try on the Medium version. The large is far too big, as I discovered when trying it out in person, but the medium one is lovely both handheld and slung cross body. Worth looking – that’s free at least LOL 😉
