In recent times, I’ve been asked a few times by readers what eye creams they can use, especially for younger skin and it shames me to say I’m not too good at the eye cream stuff. The one I use most (when I remember) and which I’ve repurchased is the Estee Lauder ANR eye serum (not the new serumy thing in the thin bottle, but the short squat bottle). It also shames me that so many of you young ‘uns are so into eye creams and looking after the delicate skin around your eyes, when this old lady doesn’t LOL!
So I’ve resolved to be a little more diligent using eye cream and here’s one I’ve been using most recently, because I’m out of ANR.
From the Caudalie stables come the Vinosource SOS Morning Eye Rescue. It is a very simple, very basic eye cream that serves a very basic purpose – to hydrate the delicate skin around your eyes and keep it fresh and glowing.
Like the rest of our facial skin, eye skin does also need some “moisturiser” so before I rush right in and treat problems I have, I thought I’d do what I did with my skin. Go back to basics and hydrate it. Then address whatever problems I might have.
As a very basic eye cream, this does the job just fine and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
Like all eye creams, this comes in a slim 15ml tube with a nozzle dispenser that makes it easy to control just how much product you need. You don’t need a lot really.
This squirt below is far too much!
I squeeze about half of that amount on my 4th finger, rub the 4th fingers of both hands together, then tap the product around my eye area.
The product is light, absorbs very quickly into the skin and leaves it feeling refreshed. No tingling, no smarting, not greasy, not oily, not heavy, just very simple, and very effective to hydrate the eye area 🙂 Once it’s absorbed, eye makeup goes on over and doesn’t slip off.
If you are in the market for an eye cream that isn’t targeted specifically at any concerns, and you want something that hydrates the skin around the eyes and keeps it feeling fresh, then this would be one to consider. Quite often, fine lines is as a result of dehydration (similarly with the rest of our skin) so keeping your eye area hydrated could be the first step towards helping rid your eye area of fine lines 🙂
In a nutshell
The Caudalie Vinosource SOS Eye Rescue cream is a very basic eye cream that targets hydration. The texture is very lightweight and it absorbs very quickly into the skin without feeling uncomfortable at all. I can quite easily apply makeup over it in the day and it does not get oily nor does it affect my makeup so that is very good. I’d consider this one a very basic eye cream that does the most basic and most important of jobs – hydrate our skin. It is the first step towards having better skin as I’ve learned over the years.
Pros: Lightweight texture, Absorbs very quickly into skin, Not greasy nor oily, Hydrates skin, Does not cause smarting or tingling around the eye area
Cons: If left unused for a long period of time the product can separate
Who will like this: Anyone who is looking for a very basic and simple eye cream to hydrate the eye area, Anyone looking for their first eye cream
Ingredients: Water, Glycerin*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Water*, Dicaprylyl Ether*, Hexyldecanol*, Hexyldecyl Laurate*, Behenyl Alcohol*, Glyceryl Stearate*, Lecithin*, Mica, Sodium Dextran Sulfate, Erythritol, Tocopherol*, Pentaerythrityl Distearate*, Tapioca Starch Polymethylsilsesquioxane*, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Palmitoyl Grape Seed Extract*, Caprylyl Glycol, Xanthan Gum, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols*, Butylene Glycol, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Leaf Extract*, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Juice*, Sodium Hydroxide, Carbomer, Citric Acid, Sodium Carboxymethyl Beta-Glucan, Sodium Phytate*, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract*, Hyaluronic Acid, Homarine Hcl. *Plant origin.
I made the mistake of leaving this one aside for too long (a couple of months) and when I came back to it, found that the product had separated. So, I shook it up in the tube until I couldn’t hear anymore liquid sloshing around, and the next time I squeezed it out, it was fine. If you use it regularly, it won’t separate but if you leave it too long, it might.
Has anyone tried this eye cream? Do you use an eye cream regularly?
Oh and before you ask, I use this day and night, despite its name. Nothing wrong so far, just nicely hydrated skin around the eyes 🙂 I’m starting to get back into the habit. Age catching up and all LOL! 😀

Hello Paris! I haven’t tried this eye cream but I have been using eye cream since I was 18. Hehe. I started to get worried of my dark circles then so I decided I should use eye cream. I have dark circles but I don’t have eye bags. Lately I have been sleeping less due to my crazy schedule so my dark circles are worse LOL
Paris B says
Wah Rin, I take my hat off to you! 😀 At 18 I was still just washing my face and not even using moisturiser LOL! Gosh, what I would give to know then what I know now 😛
Lily says
Yay for getting into the habit of applying eye creams! I’ve been crazy about eye creams lately because my eyes have been getting a little drier than before. I’m using the new Estee Lauder ANR Eyes under my regular eye cream and I’m definitely feeling the difference 🙂
Paris B says
That’s good to know about the EL ANR serum thing. I didn’t understand it at all LOL! Will wait for your review then. I like the regular ANR eye serum. It feels lovely and light.
Victoria says
I have used countless of eye creams over the years as I have dark eye circles. I have kind of given up on ever finding one that could lighten my dark circles. I am now just making sure my under eye area is hydrated. I have not tried this cream though and I am currently using B.Liv I’m Dark Circle Reliever during the day and ANR Eye Serum during the night. I will probably use an eye cream from another brand once these items finishes.
Paris B says
You know what Victoria? I learned that nothing can lighten dark circles because there are so many reasons that can cause it – genes, poor sleep, poor blood circulation, aging <- the worst! - so nothing topical can actually help! Horrible to know huh? So, like you, I go for hydration and then get a good concealer LOL! 😀

I started using eye cream thanks to EL GWP. I liked it so I purchased the full size. Squat bottle as you cutely put it lol. The recent EL eye serum magic dust didn’t quite land on me. I tried Dior eye serum too. That was quite good so I purchased the full size. I reckoned if I’ve tried them and liked them enough, they’re good purchase albeit the price. These products come in teeny weeny bottles but pricing is quite high. Caudalie is another brand that I’ve kept in my list of to try. Thanks for sharing this review. I’ll try it soon. I have fine lines underneath my eyes but I’m thankful that they’re not any worse off.
Paris B says
Good on you Jennifer! I too got onto the EL ANR Eye serum with a GWP back in the day and till today, it is the only eye cream I’d voluntarily repurchase. It does everything well enough by my standards and is easy to use, which is helpful. I haven’t used the Dior one – it’s the one that goes on under an eye cream right? I think Caudalie is a good brand generally. They didn’t try to sell me a whole bunch of claims with this cream, telling me to treat it as “my first eye cream” and that its main objective was to hydrate. I like that.
YCLee says
Hi! Just wondering if this product causes oil seeds/milia?
Paris B says
Not for me YCLee. It is very light but then different skin will react differently to products so it’s hard to say if it will or it won’t cause oil seeds.
Philippe says
Haha I just reviewed this one. Lovely and refreshing, a good starting point for people wanting to get into eyecreams but not needing heavy anti aging action. Just hydration and soothing, I usually slather this on after too many hours at the pc.
Paris B says
Ooh High5 Philippe! 🙂 Glad to know you like it too as a basic eye cream. I’m using it to get myself into the habit of using one and then I’ll see where I go from there. Good tip about using it after working at the PC. I should keep a tube at the office LOL 😉
Amanda says
I use eye cream day and night. I’m definitely going to try this one when I finish my Origins A Perfect World. 🙂 I love Caudalie Vinosource SOS serum, I use it every night. I hope it is available here but I can only get them on their online store.
Paris B says
Ahh everyone’s so hardworking with eye cream! I have to work harder LOL! 😀 I have heard a lot about the Vinosource SOS serum too! I think I want to try it 😀
Sze Ling says
Keep up the good work in the eye cream dept. 😉
It’s funny that you mentioned the product separated when left unused for some time, cause I find it the case with 2 of the Caudalie Vinosource products that I’ve tried. I thought I got a bad batch! 😀
Paris B says
Thanks Sze Ling. Fell off the bandwagon for a few days, but crawled back up again LOL! Oh, did your products separate then? Then it might be their formula because they have grape water or something in there right? I just shook it back up and it was ok again. Did you toss yours?
Sze Ling says
Oh no no…I just gave them a good shake and they looked alright again. Wasn’t going to toss them without a good fight first. 😉
Paris B says
Smart! I try not to toss if I can help it (unless it really smells funky :P)
sesame says
Was thinking of giving this one a shot but it sounds a bit meh for my needs so prolly prefer to take my money elsewhere.
Paris B says
Yep, it’s just a pretty basic eye cream. Good perhaps, for someone with less eye concerns, but not so good for getting rid of lines 🙂
Emma says
I’m 18 so I’m not using eye cream regularly. But I do own the MAC Fast Response Eye Cream, have you tried it? Personally, it doesn’t hydrate my eyes at all, it’s in fact quite dehydrating. It’s like if I used it for my under eye regularly, it would develop fine line! But it’s great for puffy eyes. If I wake up with puffy eyes, patting this on the area, the puffiness would be gone within minutes! So amazing!
Paris B says
Ooh that sounds very intriguing, Emma! I haven’t heard of it and didn’t even know MAC made an eye cream LOL! I suppose it’s meant to be a quick remedy for puffy eyes without having to reach for the cold teaspoon 😀
Michelle Beh says
Thanks for the recommendation Paris B! I ll add this eye cream into my list. I had been using shiseido anti dark circle eye cream and I’m in love with it. Not to the purpose of reducing dark circle but love the texture that did not cause milia seed around the eyes.
Paris B says
Ooh that’s good to know about the Shiseido eye cream, Michelle 🙂 I haven’t tried it myself, but it sounds good!
Ting says
hmm… I don’t use day eye cream. But again, the night eye cream I have is from Kielh’s midnight recovery range and I always forget to dab some on. On the nights that I do use them… i don’t see any difference – use eye cream or not. Perhaps that’s why I never really bothered…?
Paris B says
Haha you sound a lot like me, Ting. I have them, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference whether I use them or I don’t 😛
Ting says
I don’t know if it’s better to apply the day/night cream close to the eyes and if this will double as eye cream?!
Paris B says
I used to do that 😛 Run my fingers around my eye area after applying my moisturiser. I’m told it isn’t advisable because face cream is thicker and it can cause oil seeds. But I still do it occasionally 😛
